There are separate glitchless categories on the document above, where you can be competitive, or you can utilize the routes for those to make your own runs. Sadly the glitchless categories aren't very popular, so avoiding glitches will mean the run is very different than what you see any streamers do. You are ofc welcome to the community discord, invite link in the resource bar on the left if you haven't joined yet, and in there you can ask any questions regarding routing or advice for your runs. In the end, we're just a bunch of ordinary people playing a game we love for fun, and anyone is welcome to play the game however they wish. You also don't need to speedrun a game to be friends with the people playing it. We chat nonsense in the discord at times, hang out in twitch chat, personal discords servers etc. so you are very welcome to just hang out if you wish. The only thing I'm gonna say about the glitches: most of them aren't nearly as difficult as you think. Skipping boss doors isn't even the easiest, so if you can manage that, you can manage whatever you wish to implement. You can play however you want, but if the only reason you don't want to even try glitches is difficulty, rest assured. If you wanna try something, we're all there to help, even if you just wanna mess around with stuff. Any tricks you see streamers do, not involving throwing oranges to clip through walls, will also work on WiiU VC, given you're on the US version. Some tricks like swimming through walls are patched on PAL and JP. As for the intro cutscene, all you need to do is turn on Story Skip in the settings in the main menu.
The quick kill works for both Fungi and Aztec. The basic idea is you need to take damage at the same time as you damage dogadon. Simple as that, and it will always yield key 5. There's a variety of setups to make it work. You can look at either the tutorial Horhay posted or almost anyone's NLE or 101% PB. If you have further specific questions I suggest joining the community discord server. We have a help channel, where people can give more in depth answers, and whatever your question is it will usually get answered by some of the more experienced runners fairly quickly.
Hi, My game keeps crashing during both runs and practise in very consistent places. The most usual spot is when going back to cool the CID in Power up the CID. Is this a knows issue? I can't pinpoint a hardware issue, and this happens equally on foot and with the void. Any solution guesses?
For this game you want to use Bizhawk as an emulator and there should be a rom on the same site iirc. Other emulators tend to have big issues emulating this game. Do note that speedrunning this game on emulator means you can't submit to the leaderboards, if speedrunning is your intention.
I'm trying to learn DK64 runs, preferably nle, after playing the game for ages. After looking through some route guides I'm a bit confused as to which routes and tricks work for which versions of the game. I have a WiiU VC and a Pal N64 available. Which routes are doable and reccomended to start of with either of these?
Why do you care what categories have leaderboards if you're not even gonna try to get on them. All categories are for, is so runners have a set of rules within which to play. New categories are not implemented, coz those would only be compromises between categories that exist, and will only exclude 1 or 2 mechanics. For example, running 31 stars, would be exactly the same concept as 16 star, just without BLJs. Excluding one minor skip, and bringing back a category, which no one was running (hence why it was removed originally) would do nothing but clutter the page. No one ran it back then, why would they run it now? No point in having a leaderboard that consists of 5 runners. If you wanna run chaos%, run chaos%, if you wanna run 31 star, run 31 star, but don't expect the whole community to make a leaderboard for a category that only you run.
