Very cool! I recommend that you keep the overall leaderboard, as an incentive for the community to submit their runs and make this game more active.

The system you use is very similar to the one The Sonic Center has used with Sonic the Hedgehog games since 2005. In the past (until 2019 when it stopped having so much activity), that page motivated Sonic speedrunners to complete all categories to obtain the "world championship title". I recommend that you look for the page to understand what I am talking about.

I think we all dream of Riders being measured by IGT. I even created a topic in 2017 with reasons about it. In those times, there were less than 25 players (now 123) and I think it was feasible to implement that year. However, historically this has not been done for these main reasons (and have increased dramatically over time):

  1. There are no certainty methods to measure the IGT in Sand Ruins for Heroes Story and All Stories.

  2. Any compensation methods for Sand Ruins and Pauses, with inaccurate IGTs (viewing frame by frame in editing programs), are still inaccurate and will vary unfairly between recording methods.

  3. Implementing the IGT would mean a job of more than 90 hours, with a total of 273 current runs to re-verify. Even if only the last runs of each player in each category + the history of WRs are re-verified, the number is over 200 (if I'm not wrong).

  4. There are historical runs without active videos that it is not possible to measure IGT.

  5. For runs with pauses, since there is no AutoSplitter, the work of moderators would be many times greater and the current number of moderators is limited to 3 (and Cyber is practically the only one in SSs).

  6. A level of competitiveness has not yet been reached where it is completely necessary to implement IGT or an inaccurate variation of it for tiebreaking WRs or top 3 runs.

  7. The Keyboard version has the best IGTs and very soon it will be impossible for the Controller version (PC or consoles) to reach these times. Therefore, the separation between Keyboard and Controller will still make sense for RTA.

Believe me, I'd like to see IGT (or the RTA w/loads alternative discussed before), but it's an unfeasible job for moderation (for both: past and future runs). That is why compensation methods have been sought such as the separation of Keyboard and Controllers categories, which allow us to clearly know which is the best PC, Wii or PS2 run (for example), fulfilling the objective of showing the best run in each plataform.

We have done our best to adapt the speedrun progress of this game, with new category divisions (No Ultra, Any% and No LRG) and Controller filters. Category Extensions were even thought of (thinking controller mods, SSs for Grand Prix and ILs for LRG) but never materialized due to lack of interest. Unfortunately, about the possibility for IGT, the situation is not comparable with ZG :(

Hello! Usually, in racing games, Individual Levels (Time Trials) have great importance. The main reason is optimization and the interest in being the best in one or more tracks. However, I see that on Speedrun.com we only have a Single Segment (All Time Trials) and no Individual Time Trials. This is a game that has a lot of potential, is technical and entertaining, and I think the best way to get attention is to create the necessary Individual Levels.

That is why my request is that Individual Levels be created. There can be two categories: Upgrades and Default. In Upgrades (allowing all kinds of upgrades, including nitro accumulation from the previous game) and Default (which has no upgrades and no nitro accumulation, so you will always start with 2 nitros).

Hello everybody! A few weeks ago new strats were discovered in Green Cave using pauses (Pause Buffering Glitch). That, coupled with a potential find of Red Canyon Pause Buffering Glitch, we will finally do what many of you were waiting for: the creation of a No Ultra category, where pauses, glitches and big skips are not allowed.

Finally, the Splash Canyon Pause Buffering Glitch will not be allowed in the main category (No Ultra). It will be allowed in Any% and No LRG.

These are the most recent findings applying Pause Buffering Glitch. They will not be allowed in No Ultra:

The Single Segments will have this new structure:

  • The use of glitches (Pause Buffering Glitch, Normal Respawn Glitches (example: Ice Factory) and Lap Respawn Glitch) is NOT allowed.

You have to consider this:

  • It is unnecessary, does not affect the gameplay.
  • There are 674 Single Segments runs that the filter should have.
  • There is no concrete way to know the difficulty that each player chose.
  • More filters = uglier the leaderboard.
  • There is no benefit.

You do not have to apologize, it is not wrong to ask or propose. But you have to consider the reasons.

For a long time the main categories have been very poorly planned: All Cups and 24 tracks cant be together in the same category, and doing All Missions in the DS version is absurd for many reasons, reasons that only the players who have played it know (the difficulty in 100% is unreal for example).

For this reason, it is time to do what we should have done a long time ago: restructure the 2 main categories. It will be the following and will be implemented very soon:

  1. All Cups
  • Glitchless
  1. 24 Tracks
  • Glitchless
  • Glitched

All Missions category will be deleted, with the possibility of being a Misc. category in the future (if there are enough players interested in playing).

There will be no modifications to Misc. categories, they will all remain Glitchless and with the same rules.

ALL CUPS RULES:

  • Complete all 6 cups as fast as posible. Glitches are NOT allowed.
  • Android / iOS version is NOT allowed.
  • Timer starts upon Selecting the Chao Cup and ends at the Thunder Deck finish line.
  • Play each cup in order.
  • Runs can be started from a file with cups and characters already completed.
  • Video is required!

The reason why All Cups (and Misc. Categories) are Glitchless is very simple: it is only possible to do glitches in Lost Palace and Bingo Party.

In the case of 24 Tracks, there will be the option to choose Time Trials or Single Race through a Filter. Of course, Time Trials is much better for playing. This filter will not make another one obsolete, therefore, a player can have 2 runs (Time Trial and Single Race) at the same time on leaderboards.

24 TRACK RULES:

  • This run must be play on Time Trial or Single Race.
  • Android / iOS version is NOT allowed.
  • You can play all the Tracks in any order except for Whale Lagoon and Highway Zero.
  • The Timer stars upon selecting the track Whale Lagoon and ends at the Highway Zero finish line.
  • Runs have to be with a file with all the tracks.
  • In the case of playing in Single Race, it is mandatory to play with 3 laps. Racers, Difficult, Items and Gimmicks are optional.

Glitchless: Glitches (Lap Respawn Glitch) are NOT allowed. Glitched: Glitches (Lap Respawn Glitch) are allowed. Anything that is not Lap Respawn Glitch (LRG) is considered glitchless.

Only those are the updates. Sorry for taking years before making this necessary change.

ABOUT IGT I would like to read opinions about the use of IGT. Using IGT makes the competition more fair, but sometimes it is difficult to obtain it due to poor video quality (when recording on a DS). What do you think? Post it in the comments.

A few days ago we were talking about that possibility on the Sonic Speedrun Discord.

The agreement (as you can see in an old topic) to create Heroes World Grand Prix and Babylon World Grand Prix is to have at least 3 players willing to play. This means that we need at least 1 run from 3 different players. I already have a run for each category. If you do a run and another player does too, the category will be created.

These 2 new categories (they will be Misc. Categories) will have this structure:

Heroes World Grand Prix

  1. No Ultra
  • Keyboard
  • Controller
  1. LRG
  • Keyboard
  • Controller

Babylon World Grand Prix

  1. No Ultra
  • Keyboard
  • Controller
  1. LRG
  • Keyboard
  • Controller

But all 3 players are necessary. If there are only 2, nothing will happen. We are open to questions and suggestions.

You can use emulator as long as it is fps stable. The important thing is that there are no frame drops or strange things. I recommend Desmume.

For these kinds of changes, the most important thing is to know the opinion of the players. For major changes like this (where the number of runs in the main category is drastically reduced), the majority of players are usually required.

In this case, the most suitable would be the Glitched and No Ultra Skips subcategories. The No Ultra rules would be the same as in the ILs. In this game even the smallest skip can be considered as glitch, so it is not possible to implement a "Glitchless" category. But it is possible with No Ultra if multiple players want it (because the rules are already agreed and approved by the community).

Now, it is important that for all who want this or not, give their opinions.

Hi everyone. A very good proposal has come up to edit the IL structure.

As we know, there are important differences between Keyboard and Controllers players (PC controller included) in auto sections. This is why it seems right to me that both styles of games are separated and both are almost equally important.

This, added to the failure of the current Pauseless category (understandable, because there are few tracks that differ from No Ultra), caused the creation of the following proposal:

Categories:

  1. Glitched
  2. Pauseless w/Keyboard
  3. Pauseless w/Controller

Subcategories for Glitched:

  1. Three Laps
  2. Fastest Lap

Subcategories for Pauseless w/Keyboard and Pauseless w/Controller:

This would allow for a very clean IL. I'm surprised we haven't thought of this before. In No Ultra: Ultra skips are NOT allowed. In Ultra: Ultra skips are allowed. (would be the current Pauseless)

Okay. Dolphin will be allowed on Riders ILs with the special rules. This is because it is a platform with high potential for future participation. The only exception to the special rules will be the previous Sewer's Night Chase run.

Thanks for those 2 skips Ludiyolo. I'm not sure if they can be done in the original game but they will be added to the list as a precaution.

About the "Ultra fly bonk skip", I think it is not possible to do in the original game.

Emulators:

If a lot of players use GCN Emu (Dolphin), it is a good reason to allow emulators. However, right now I only remember 2 runs using Dolphin without cheat / code: Sewer Night Chase (best High Booster time) and Protag Babylon Guardian (top 10 time). There are very few runs, that is the problem.

If there are a good number of players who are willing to participate using emulator, could be allowed to use it in ILs. Now is the time to find out exactly how many will want to play with emulators (Dolphin).

In the case of allowing emulators in ILs, special rules will be created:

  • Only stable version of Dolphin emulator are allowed.
  • No replay of your earlier attempt is allowed to be submitted.
  • FPS Counter and upper window bar must be shown on the video.

The only exception would be Sewer's Night Chase run, because it is the best High Booster NC run and was obtained before these rules. And it is important to consider it. There will be no other exceptions.

"No Major Skips / No Ultra" and Pauseless:

First, in order to have the same nomenclature between Riders 1 and Zero Gravity, the "No Major Skips" category will be called "No Ultra". For context, Ultra is the name that some ZG players gave to the most broken skips in ZG.

Hi all! In this topic we will talk about two things: Individual Levels and Single Segments.

I. Individual Levels (ILs)

The Sonic Center (TSC) is Sonic's competitive home, but the submission option has been disabled since March. For this reason that now practically all the games in the series have Individual Levels on Speedrun.com (SRC).

The main strength of Sonic Riders are the Time Trials (Individual Levels) and in TSC are the best times, with 105 players and it is the 8th game with the most competitive weight in ILs. Competitive history has had good and bad moments of activity, currently bad. SRC has only had Single Segments so far, but now it will have an IL with videos.

The main objective that must be met in the implementation of ILs is to respect the competitive history of the game. Every decision must take that into consideration. SRC ILs will not replace TSC ILs (TSC ILs will remain official).

ILs proposal:

There will be a special filter. Gear Filter will have these options: High Booster, Auto Slider, Darkness, Default Gear, Other Gear. The runs will not be obsolete with each other, so a player will be able to upload up to 5 different runs without problems, and they will all be shown by default.

Depending on the participation, we can create 3 Misc. Categories: Heroes World Grand Prix, Babylon World Grand Prix, All Missions. To create one of these categories, a minimum of three players will be required.

We welcome any suggestions, including any ideas on how to implement IGT or Loadless.

The problem is now solved.

To clarify, I must say that initially the Single Segment runs were ordered using IGT, but for various reasons this changed to RTA without any announcement. This is the cause of the error.
