For instance, in this leaderboard, we have two runs that end up with .000 times. These milliseconds are not displayed. Expected outcome would be to display 6:48.000 and 7:14.000.

Any opinion about this (minor) issue?

Ideally, we would have a way to only use centiseconds as well, as these are not used so often on the leaderboards.

Hey, As you've noticed, the current moderation team is not able to verify runs in time, which results in pending runs adding up considerably, and huge delay between submission time and verification.

To prevent that from happening I will be adding new verifiers to the moderation list. So please contact me in this post or from Discord if you're interested !

A Discord Server about the Super Smash Flash speedrun leaderboards was created, as it will make for a better place for the members of the SSF speedrun/challenge community to discuss.

Here is a permanent invite link to the server: https://discord.gg/AGksX3N

Just to precise because a misunderstanding has been made there, the All Characters RTA runs are RTA as their names indicate: they're a single segment run that complete every BtT level in a row. I really thought there was a Total Time category but I'll add them both; if you want All Characters RTA to be removed we can talk about it here.

Hi fellow speedrunners o/

Recently I've been using an excel sheet that I made that calculates goal splits for any given time (i.e Balanced PB splits for any goal time if you're using LiveSplit), and I find it quite useful

Here's how it looks like: https://images-ext-2.discordapp.net/eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwOi8vcHV1LnNoL3VoWUpsL2Q0NTkwZjQzY2UucG5nIn0.LqMhj6Gr3qisCwRQyvAH6n-kLtA

After copypasting LiveSplit times into the three first columns and setting a goal time under the "Ideal" case, the sheet calculates reachable goal splits that have the time you entered as the final time. In other words, it gives you split times in order to give you steps to reach your goal time.

There's also an additional column that you can edit (the "offset" one, though that's not the correct word for it), where you can set a time to make a specific split easier to match (if it's RNG based or very hard), which will make all of the other splits a bit harder to match so that the final time stays the same.

I'd like to know if a tool like that interests anyone so that I continue to work for it / allow it to be downloaded, or if you have any suggestions to improve it ?

I (seemingly) fixed it but may not have done it entirely. Tell me if something's not accurate.

Hey, Sekanor here.

So the decision has recently been taken to modify the timinjg methods due to a new glitch that prerequires action from the level designer.

Before, we would time our runs from the Z input that reads the first sign, to the first frame the launch star is being exit on.

Now, we are timing our runs from the press of the start button after the intro loading, to the first frame the credits cutscene starts on.

Reasons for this are described here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hUD3FudI3PCR5ysCzyoM1lU9KRSi0Jz8AdVK2roFWV0/edit?usp=sharing

Feel free to talk about it here if you want.

Everytime a rule update is made, we will list it in this thread. If you want to discuss one of these rules, either create a new topic for it, or post in the SM63 Speedrunning change thread.

Hey, Sekanor there.

We had a discussion involving the main speedrunners of this game: me, iHaveLuigi7826 and TheMilkMan47. We put into question some of the main rules of the game.

The main rule that we redefined is the viability of the online version of the game. It has been previously decided by me and Frogyfro about one year ago that the offline, downloadable version of the game would be the only one that'd be authorized for speedrunning, because the online version has an unstable framerate number.

However, by experiencing with it a bit, mainly when we were testing the tab glitch (I'll talk about this later), we realised that the framerate number is unstable on online compared to the offline version, but the framerate itself is stable, and that the online version is faster. Realising that the main argument against the online version isn't viable, we decided to allow it, as it is also an official version of the game. Something important to precise too; the online version is faster than the offline version because its framerate is faster, so it saves time depending on the lenght of the run.

Two websites are authorized for the online version: http://runouw.com/games/sm63/ http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/498969

http://www.sheezyart.com/art/view/2096317/ would also be valid but it doesn't work anymore.

Any run played outside these two websites will be rejected.

Here is the problem now. Authorizing the online version creates a lot of new questions:

  1. There's a glitch called Tab Glitch that involves opening a new tab right next to a wall to climb that wall. It is shown in this run in Bowser Trap #3 http://blog.naver.com/3124680/220516544828 made by iHaveLuigi7826. It works on Google Chrome, maybe Internet Explorer ? no one uses that Kappa but it doesn't work on Mozilla Firefox. It obviously only works on the online version, and this is a glitch that works in most of the online flash games. Because of it involving to create a tab in the browser, it has been banned before, because that was considered hardware manipulation, and also because online was banned. It will not be allowed in any of the main categories, should the tab glitch categories be added on speedrun.com (which involves that it doesn't break any of the general speedrun rules) or stay on the google doc leaderboard https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1omYaQvaZeb7iK5qY0V9e9jFYkLGMLbb0izuiPPfT6uA/edit#gid=1691914476 ?

  2. A lot of runs have been previously done with the offline version of the game, which is slower than the online version, while the latter was banned. Should the offline version times done before the rule changement be converted to online timing, so we get the times that would've been if the run was done on the online version ?

  3. I found a way to create an executable from the official .swf file that has the same framerate as the online version, but offline. Should this executable be allowed for speedruns ?

Come debate if you want to, we all do not agree with each other and every point and we thought that it would be interesting to get other people's opinion from here. Thanks in advance for reading, and for helping if you want to :)

The timing methods have to be the same for adventure mode & classic mode. Right now, here's how it is:

Adventure Mode > Starts when the "Go" button is pressed, ends on the first frame Master Hand dies on. Classic Mode > Starts when the "Go" button is pressed, ends when the "Continue" button is pressed.

We have to choose between the two timings and convert the times after that.

To me, the Adventure Mode timing is more accurate; sometimes, the cutscene after killing Master Hand doesn't always happen at the same moment for some reason, and that can change the time of the run and lose several seconds on good runs (around 3), that can influence the time of some runs and be pretty annoying to run with.

Your thoughts ?

The level leaderboards has Break the Targets categories. It requires beating the Break the Target level once with any character; however, it doesn't make a lot of sense to get a category like that, there are already leaderboards for each single character on mcleodgamingforums.com .

A "beat the level 1 with every character" category would make way more sense.

FranceSekanor9 years ago

On this leaderboard: www.speedrun.com/sm63

There's a "Route" variable which is supposed to show which route has been used to complete the run. It used to work well, but now when I try to edit a run, the "Route" variable doesn't show up anymore, so I can't edit it.

Here are two images which show my problem:

http://oi62.tinypic.com/1zfpyew.jpg

When I'm trying to edit the world record:

Is it me who's missing something or is that a site problem ?

Thank you in advance for any help. Great job on the Follow feature by the way :)
