Oh... So THIS is why there's a sudden loss of decimal places past a certain rank. I thought it was just coincidence that people with slower times didn't care. Kappa
I don't see a leaderboard for that game on this site, so I'm assuming you're looking to request it after you've done a run? And then you'll most likely become mod of it. (But either way, my opinion is basically "yes".)
Yes, I would take those runs into account. For instance, I added Commander Keen 1 to this site several months back, and although I only knew of 3 runners at the time (including myself), I still made sure to scour YouTube for any other runs I could add to the leaderboard (of which, I found runs from 3 different people, ranging in age from 2 to 8 years).
Not only does this make your leaderboard more accurate, but it also really helps fill out your leaderboard if your game has few runners. Providing a wider variety of runs to refer to can also make it easier for others who might be interested in learning your game! ;-)
However, please note that this is just my opinion. If you are mod for a game with few runners, then you have quite a bit of flexibility in how you want to run the leaderboard, but I think it's best to list all the runs that you can find, even if those runners are no longer active.
The established Zelda runners just have it memorized. However, there is nothing wrong with using notes and/or maps during a run if you want (at least, not for any game I've heard of; certainly not Zelda).
In fact, they do "randomizer" races for Zelda, where the location of almost everything is randomized, and in that case many of them ¤do¤ use a map. In randomizer, all the secret entrances on the overworld are in the same place, but what they lead to is completely different, so many use a map to take notes. ;-)
So first, let me just say that yes, it's technically the "World Record", even if you're the only runner.
However, if you want to know my personal opinion (and what I follow), then it's a bit different. I've dealt with this for a game that I run (Star Wars for NES, as seen to the left).
For over a year after I picked it up, I was the only runner. I decided not to call it WR until I got a deathless run that had reasonable execution. I guess I mainly wanted to avoid the perception that I picked up this game just so that I could say I had "WR" in something, whereas the real reason I decided to run it is because I played it as a kid and it's one of my favorite games. :-)
I also like Klashik's idea of calling it an "uncontested WR". I basically did the same thing, though I never thought of using that exact term. I did label it as "WR" once I felt my time was decent, but any time I streamed I was very careful to impress upon my (admittedly few) viewers that I was the only runner.
In any case, I'm happy to say that there are now 3 runners for the aforementioned game (and at least 2 more on the way), and the WR time has been hugely improved, thanks in no small part to some tough competition from a popular streamer named Striker. ;-)
Edit: Oh, and I was very careful to make sure there were no other runners, too. There were no actual "speedruns" to be found, though I did find a well-organized playthrough on YouTube where they beat the game in about 21 minutes, so I had to beat that time at least. :-P
So where do we keep up-to-date about this? Just watch this thread?
< I might run a Star Wars game... Kappa
For some reason, I was added as a mod of http://www.speedrun.com/Star_Wars_Battlefront
But I've never even played this game, nor have I heard of any of the other mods before...
The main reason I'd like to be removed is that now I'm getting extra run verification notifications that I'd rather not see.
Registered! Let me know if you have any questions about the game I submitted.
(It's not well-known, and it could be confused for at least one other.)
< Edit: Actually, my avatar is a pic of the game cover. OneHand
Ah, I see. Thanks for the help! :)
Yeah, I think that was the most unnerving part. I couldn't attempt to fix it myself since the error message didn't tell me why it failed. :P
Anyway, everything looks good now. :D
Just a tip: If you "don't know about the priority", then it will probably become the lowest priority. Kappa
For some reason, my profile page is showing my run for Commander Keen 1 twice. I'm a Mod for the game, and my time only appears once on the Leaderboard itself.
Is there some way to fix this? Thanks! :)
Edit: Oh, and another issue I'm having is that I could not submit the "box" image that I wanted to use for Commander Keen 1. It says "Error. Failed to upload image." Here is the image in question:
(I wasn't able to find a picture of the actual box, so I figured I'd use the in-game title screen.)
Btw, if you click the little shield icon with the "M" in it (just to the right of your name), you can see how many of your runs are awaiting verification.
If it says zero, then either it was already approved, or somehow it wasn't submitted. ;-)
