@fakeforsure Level 5 randomly assigns the star to one of the four corners, whereas all other early levels have the star in the same spot. It's more of a waste of time to do the fixed star levels just to come to level 5 later and lose time by guessing the wrong corner. When I start with level 5, I can reset very early if it does not show up in the optimal top-right corner, which means I will more quickly get to a run where the first levels go perfectly :)
Great callout - I've updated the description in the original post.
I'm not sure what you mean here when bringing up #24 in this game, as that's the race to click the star points. Did you mean a different stage?
I've corrected my wording at the top post to remove the ambiguous "difficult", so thanks for pointing this level out :)
Unfortunately, that looks entirely luck-dependent and not skill-dependent. The optimal IL time would happen if the star chest spawned two rows under the player and the player could hold straight down to clear the path without encountering any walls. That could happen (I checked the source code) so anyone could do it if they wanted to reset enough times that they got it. The time couldn't be improved beyond that, and that's not really worth a leaderboard.
To prove my point, here's an almost-optimal completion that I got after a bit of resetting, and it took no practice-based skill:
If you find a way to make that stage skill-dependent, I'm willing to create a category. I know that navigating the caves with monsters running around would take some skill, so I don't want to rule out having something fun for this level - I just don't see a plain IL as a good category here.
Levels that were not in the above lists have been Archived. These can be restored if the levels have sufficient challenge or aren't simple to reach the optimal time.
Updated due to mod error:
Mod: Time starts at 1:05.067 and ends at 1:10.533 at 30 fps to get a final time of 0m 05s 467ms. Retimed using https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime

A few days ago I messaged both Aftermathrar and jokerking76 about this topic. Aftermathrar has responded saying that they have opted out of the change, so we're good to keep their runs up.
No response from jokerking yet (it's been years since they were on), and I don't believe geekthras has an account here.
All additions of new ILs have been done, as well as a cleanup of the rules.
For categories/ILs that will be removed, I will notify any runners with submissions and keep a backup before deleting. This will be done sometime in the near future.
In an effort to improve competition standards, IL categories across the Hoshi Saga series will be revised to admit levels that are good for competition - in essence, requiring reasonable effort to complete. Existing IL categories that do not make sense as such will be removed.
Through my own research, I have found the following Hoshi Saga stages as good candidates for IL categories:
- HS1: 3, 14, 20, 29, 30, 34
- HS2: 45, 47, 52, 57, 61, 63, 65, 69, 70
- HS3: 71, 73, 77, 78, 79, 82, 85, 88, 92, 94
- HS4 (Ringo): 1, 5, 11, 12, 16, 21, 23, 24, 25
- HS5 (Ringoame): 28, 30, 38, 41, 44, 45, 50
- HS6 (Ringoen): 51, 54, 61, 70, 72, 74
- HS7 (Ringohime): 76, 77, 81, 83, 86, 95, 99
- HS8 (Dokuringo): 9980, 9995, 10000(Easy), 10000(Hard)
- HS9 (Minnano 1): 12, 18, 23, 26, 29, 32, 33, 34, 40, 42
- HS10 (Minnano 2): 7, 12, 14, 23, 26, 28, 31, 33, 40
- HS11 (Reishiki): None
- HS12 (Minnano 3): 2, 4, 8, 11, 14, 15, 18
- HS14 (Monochromatic): 21
These are to be added as the initial set in early June 2021.
This thread exists so that anyone can suggest other reasonable stages to add to the IL charts. However, if it is clear that the stage doesn't make sense for the IL charts, it will be explained, and the stage will not be added.
Hello Memer!
There is already 100% category, which achieves the highest possible score of 188 and aims to do so in the shortest amount of time. Because of this, no high score category is needed - all 188 point runs will count as 100%, and runs with fewer points are in Any%.
Sure! As long as you have the timer running, we will have enough info to verify the run :)
If you would like a leaderboard for a specific level, please request it here. Levels that have consistent timing or are not sufficiently difficult will be denied.

(Edit: replaced "difficult" with "skill-dependent" to add clarity for purely luck-dependent stages)

Hi, the first three Hoshi Saga games use the START GAME click to the Credits click for the total time. Can we do the same for the Ringo series as well? Thanks

This has not been submitted to this site. However, it is a relevant run, and as such, it is being noted here in order to keep speedruns/RTA for this game together in one place.
(Note: The additional content outside of the game window, and the audio related to it -- the narrator -- are acceptable. Placing unrelated video clips on the game window should be avoided when submitting to speedrun.com.)
I had previously verified two runs on Web:
- Any%: 14.900s
- 100%: 31.750s
As these runs were removed by the runner, they shall remain off of the leaderboard. However, I have the original videos and can confirm these times were obtained. The 100% run is indeed done within a single life.
This category involves a frame-perfect click at the beginning of the game, which means all runs are constant time. It is not difficult to achieve this within about 20 attempts (no more than 5 minutes), so the category is being removed.
Here is the original footage of jokerking76/ryangames9000 performing the exploit:
I think that would be fine.
Times will probably be similar for the two categories, i.e. we won't have a huge gap between the best runs with and without touchscreen, but there are times that will be absolutely inaccessible to those using traditional inputs.
I suggest splitting into Any% Traditional and Any% Touchscreen.
