random slowdowns are decreased
If you're referring to the behavior of playing the Genesis game on a Genesis with a 32X attached, then this statement is false, and also impossible from an engineering standpoint. If you're referring to the fanmade port which does indeed run on the 32X hardware, then it shouldn't be tracked on the leaderboard precisely because it's a fanmade port.
Hello! The PlayStation version, Baroque: Distorted Delusions, is quite a bit different from the Saturn original, and as such the speedrun categories would not be comparable. As I have not played the PSX version, I wouldn't feel comfortable verifying runs for it. If there's interest, I suppose separate categories could be added, but the game is different enough that I think an entirely separate leaderboard would be warranted.
I reviewed the video for your submission. It appeared to be a man placing his testicles on a workbench that looked remarkably like the one seen in your controller modification videos, while asking if anyone would be attending SawCon 2024. This would seem to indicate that the footage was captured from the Philips CD-i version of Lethal Enforcers II: GunFighters (1994), which is not tracked on these leaderboards at this time. Thank you for understanding.
It's all good, I also verified it. Unfortunately I didn't have time to watch it, but it was legit, I'm sure of it
I noticed that 40wattrange & Dayman's WR run was removed. I assume this is because of 40's rock-bottom reputation in the Lethal Enforcers II: Gunfighters speed community, but I know Dayman to be a swell guy, a truly class-act fighter of the Nightman, and I think it's unfair to penalize him merely for guilt by association with a shady character.
Thank you for the info PetaQ! Very interesting stuff. Given what you've provided, I think that a community discussion of timing methodology would be useful going forward. I agree that we should take care not to imply PAL has an "unfair" advantage over NTSC, particularly in light of the tic rate inconsistencies you discovered. In the meantime, I would suggest that agreeing upon timer start/stop frames for RTA should be priority one, so that legacy runs can be retimed.
Welcome! So far there hasn't been a lot of interest in the game, but I'm excited about the prospect of new runners! As far as emulation, Fusion is totally fine. Be sure to check out City of Forever, the Ecco speedrunning Discord!
I recorded a tutorial that goes over all the current tech as of August 2020. You can find it in the sidebar, or at this link: https://www.speedrun.com/ecco_the_tides_of_time/guide/opybf
I would also check out Upthorn's excellent TAS (http://tasvideos.org/6789S.html). He goes more in-depth into all the various tech, and while not all of it is RTA viable it's a great way to learn about the underlying mechanics of the game.
Welcome! The best way to get started right now is to join the Discord server (link in sidebar). That's where all the active Ecco runners hang out and we'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the game. Resources and guides are definitely a little outdated, but most of the run is fairly straightforward. I have plans of compiling a detailed guide in the future.
