Hey all!
I wanted to map out the potion stages for Donalds potion tower. The reasons are two:
- Mapping out the optimal movement
- Counting the steps to easier understand how good the RNG was
So I started making maps. Hopefully I'll make more. When I do, I'll update. :)
Figure I
Figure II. 191 Steps
Figure III. 167 Steps
Figure IV
Figure V. 411 Steps
Figure VI. 96 Steps
Oh wow what a cool strategy for learning. :D
Ye this feels quite similar to playing the game. One thing though is that there is an animation when you move a tile, in the game it's instant. A funny glitch on the website is that you can actually flip tiles if you move too quickly, making the puzzle unsolvable. :D So that's something to be careful about!
Hey all! I found this website http://ruwix.com/online-puzzle-simulators/sliding-15-puzzle/
And here's a picture of the clock:
I really liked it because
- You can upload a picture of the clock and
- Use the arrow keys to move the tiles similar to Mickey's Ultimate Challenge.
But maybe it's only 4x4 block puzzles so I guess that limits the use to Medium difficulty, even though general skill in solving block puzzles is good for speedrunning this game. :)
Hey all! :)
I made a discord server. Modeled it after the Super Mario World Discord since it felt like they have a good structure and I'm a member of that one. Maybe if you would want to make a Discord that links to it Toad22484? :) Even if people aren't very interested in chatting I'm thinking it's a good place for summarizing the ideas and progression of this speedgame. :) https://discord.gg/7Na7FJ6
Note that if I'm using my the keyboard on my laptop, I can only hold 3 keys active at a time. Just wanted to point that out if you don't get anywhere with configurating the inputs. :)
I don't think banning instant win is too arbitrary.
I'm torn in what I think of Cheater%. My postivite thought is that I think it's nice to have a mix of categories that can be easier in execution/lenght so that optimization becomes more of a factor. It's nice because of the accessability and that the difference from full game runs is motivating
My negative thought is that using cheats is maybe not the most interesting way to get an interesting category. But I say let the categories stay! :D Most important for me is that people come to the page and feel motivated to submit a run. :)
Just my thoughts. ^^
Heya! I just watched the run by Flogoo and it seems like they use the Instant Win cheat. So does that mean that the Archibald run in 29s by Flogoo should be rejected?
Heya I wanted to share my thoughts too but I sorta forgot.
I think it's a good idea to keep the mod allowed. Banning HD+ and all RNG manipulating features like Invite Hero and replay battle, while allowing the troop management features and other quality of life stuff. For upcoming updates I think we should assume any RNG manipulation thing banned and any big quality of life update... banned until it has been discussed? If the quality of life improvement has such a vast impact that it will make a very noticeable difference (time-wise) to runs without it.
The UI.QuickArmyManagementode thing could be any or all of the extra options for managing an army, like CTRL+click to get a single unit, CTRL+Shift+Click to fill army with 1 stacks, Alt+click to put all troops in garrison, managing troops from the adventure map screen without going into the hero information or maybe something with trading troops between heroes, there are so many troop-related options. :D
Sorry if my post was badly written, I'm tired (again)
When using Livesplit to time your SMW runs, you don't need to hook it up to the game.
You simply use it to start and stop a time-watch. Right-click and check the "settings" menu to view and change your hotkeys. I understand if my answer isn't good enough, but your request feels a bit vague. What exactly do you want Livesplit to do?
Yeah 1/3 of a sec delay sounds surprisingly bad. For me, who has a laptop from 2011 (decently high-performing for its time), BizHawk lags. I instead used Snes9x version 1.53 cuz it lags less.
So what kind of computer do you use? There are a bunch of other things that matter too. Do you use a wired or wireless controller? Wireless usually introduces more delay than a wired. What kind of monitor do you use? I'm not very good with monitors all I know is that some lags more. For example TVs usually have more lag than a monitor.
Can't think of anything else right now. GL solving it!
Arguments I've heard is that No Starworld, even though it has few restrictions and imo quite a natural restriction, is that it lacks in entertainment value. Like the abundance of fly-over levels.
I don't see it as a lesser category for being in the misc. section though. I just see it as a way to make the leaderboards less cluttered. :)
Hey everyone. I was playing with the idea to somehow complete a level without having to ring the bell. When wrecking havoc around the door to make something crazy happen I triggered this glitch.
In this video we can see the second time I managed to trigger trick. I did not record the first time it happend but if I remember correctly I was spamming the jump button in the corner and licking.. Will post if I figure out more. If we manage to figure out how this work it could be really useful for speedrunning. :)
EDIT: I got it once more. It was a lil' different as you can see in the video.
- I had no tongue upgrade instead of 1 tongue upgrade
- Had the reverse controls powerup
- Faced the corner instead of doing a Right to Upleft motion in the middle of the door Note: Doors have some sort of collition on their left side, the place where I took off.
EDIT2: Got a third one. I don't have any additional to draw but I'm thinking all of this is related to the flying mats. Since they are the reason you can double jump I wouldn't be surprised if something could get weird with them. Have tried other places to see if the door matters and also tried without the speed powerup but no success so far.
I don't have time to read the three posts above since I'm pressed for time, but here are my two cents.
Similar to what Adamdotpng wrote I find the value in the HDmod to come in the resolution settings and in the troops/artifacts management. While all those tools are very clearly time saving quality of life settings I deem them very very different from an RNG manipulation tool.
Sorry for a short/bad post but I dion't have much time atm
I really liked this for finding RAM adresses.
Don't know how well it explains giving inputs and recording stuff. I recommend fiddling quite a bit with your TAS program (which I btw would recommend BizHawk for(My exp is very limited though)) it to get some hands-on experience, because it felt quite unintuitive how it worked. :)
The rules tab in All Pickups & Feet could be "Collect all pickups (1-Ups (invisible, visible and the ones from feet), Clocks, Tongue Extentions, Continues, Speed, Invincibility and Control Reversers). Destroy every foot. Warps are not allowed.
Timer starts when beginning the game from the title screen. Timer ends when the snake enters the flying saucer.
Rules for Any% Co-op could be "Play in 2 Player mode. Warps are allowed.
Timer starts when beginning the game from the title screen. Timer ends when the snake enters the flying saucer."
Rules for Warpless Co-op could be "Play in 2 Player mode. Warps are not allowed.
Timer starts when beginning the game from the title screen. Timer ends when the snake enters the flying saucer."
Heya! So been thinking about three categories that would be swell to have on the leaderboard.
First one is the Snake RnR equivalent to 100%, 'All Pickups & Feet' where one collects all powerups (1-Ups (invisible, visible and the ones from feet), Clocks, Tongue Extentions, Continues, Speed, Invincibility and Control Reversers) and defeats all feet! Here is a sort of okay run of it I made to start off with. youtu .be/f9beIcJcJhA <-added a space between youtu and .be to remove the preview, consider it my submission to the category! :)
Second one is Any% Co-op, which is Any% but you play it with two players. Dunno what other thinks (discussion is welcome) but I'd say one player is allowed to be on submissions with many runners, for example if I do one run with 1 friend and then 3 months later find another partner we can submit our run and the first run would still be allowed to stay on the leaderboard.
The third one is Warpless Co-op and is like Any% except you don't use any warps.
Okay now it's fixed! Couldn't upload to Imgur for the whole day yesterday but today it finally worked! Link: https://imgur.com/O30niJY
Coolio. I've seen this used when trying to get wings on as many stages as possible. So yes it has been seen before. Cool that it works on the nes classic too. ^^ Do you know about zips by the way? The trick used in Star World 1.. because that trick uses the same mechanic that you used here. :)
Ops I found a U and a period in the game that looks better than the ones I made so I'll update the design and send that link. :)
Hey everyone! I made a Snake Rattle 'n' Roll logo for this site! I uploaded it here in PNG, looks like it should work. :) https://imgur.com/mm574Pg
If you think it's a bad idea to add it or if we should come up with another solution let me know. :)
