I picked up the game recently, and I play at more than 60fps (checked this with RivaTuner Statistics while FPS weren't locked) but the game's speed doesn't seem broken at all on PC. Timer is consistent with an external timer even at 300+ fps. I think this needs a bit more of documentation.
Today I practiced a bit on Grand Keys Short and I noticed the start is actually very far off the starting position of the car. Basically you're already taking a little space to start the lap a bit faster there. I didn't check the other tracks yet, but this exception should be enough to allow times with flying first lap tbh
I thought it would be cool to have a Discord server to share strategies and thoughts about the game. We might not be many players but I think it might be a good starting point to make the community grow and improve the boards of the game.
I would have times to post where I used this "exploit", so before posting them I'd put this to vote anyway. It's better if we take a decision together :)
I'd be interested into having a category for Templar Individual Levels. I would totally run them at some point :)
Honestly it doesn't seem that limiting to gain speed for the first lap. What I do on the first course for example is to use the reverse gear to steer to the opposite way, then I launch myself off the track to be respawned, and that's more than enough to gain speed for the first lap. It could actually allow for even faster single laps on other courses if one takes enough room to gain speed. I'd vote for allowing it. I know that people already set times without it, but it's something that the game allows after all
I was wondering if it could be possible to add a category exclusively for Templar Time Attacks, in place of the Arcade category. I've seen there's an Arcade category, but I find it a bit redundant since there is already a Time Attack Mode. Thoughts on this?
I've been doing some Time Attack yesterday after finishing the game, and I noticed that the in-game timer for the full track doesn't actually start when the announcer says "Go!", but when the car actually crosses the Finish Line. That means I can go backwards as soon the race starts, take some space and do the first lap at the same speed as the other laps. This would allow for faster full times overall. I wanted to ask if this was a known thing or if there has been a silent agreement to not exploit this. It might be a little annoying to go backwards for getting enough speed to start the first lap, but imo it still allows for faster times. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I guess we could try, but I already tried to help improving leaderboards for Sega Rally Online Arcade, which is moderated by the same person that moderates the Sega Rally Championship 1995 page, but got no response. I personally think it's better if we create our own discord.
Hi, I was thinking if we could create a discord server for Sega Rally 2 speedrunning, mainly because we could gather all the informations about the game's techniques and all the progresses for getting close to the times of that japanese community. Let me know what you think!
So, browsing nicovideo I did find a few videos of runs by japanese players. I'm gonna share them here: Desert in 2'42"128 Snowy in 2'45"934 Mountain in 2'56"736 Riviera 5 Laps in 2'38"818 Arcade PC Run in 3'59"813
Now that's something to work on. I think there should be some hints in these runs to understand how to go fast properly, but I'm guessing that using the third person view is already a good start since you can see better when the car is gonna hit the borders of the map, so that you can take corners faster.
There are also a few videos of runs for 10 Years Championship tracks, just search "セガラリー2", "セガラリー2 dc" or "セガラリー2 pc" on nicovideo in order to find them.
I still want to check the top runs though, those are probably gonna give the best hints at how to go the fastest possible.
I actually might get myself a copy of Sega Rally 2 for PC just to check how to import replays into the game from that site and check how they drive, because I'm interested in learning how to play properly. I'm wondering if there is some sorf of general guideline somewhere but I didn't find anything except for this site. So I guess the best option is to check the replays and see how they perform those times.
I guess I might also get the PC version of the game, though I tried to install it on my pc and there's no BGM. I know there's a fix to this, but it only works if you rip the OST from the original disk of the game, so I might actually end up getting a copy of Sega Rally 2 at some point. And yeah, if there is a way to download the replays from their site to check them directly on PC version, then it's still a big step forward to understanding how they manage to go this fast.
I'm honestly pretty clueless on how they could get times so fast with cars like the Peugeot 306 Maxi which is a piece of wood in terms of handling, it's honestly beyond reach for me. I would actually like to have a look at the replay files myself but I don't know how to import them into the Dreamcast version.
