Hey everyone,

So we are going to be updating the interim rule about freshness while migrate all is not working. Currently, the interim rule requires showing zero gold and empty stash tabs. The zero gold requirement will not be changing. However, the showing empty stash tabs will be. You can either show empty stash tabs OR you cannot interact at all with stash during run. So, if you don't show empty stash tabs prior to run, you cannot use the stash at all during the run. If you do show empty tabs, you can use the stash. This helps us ensure that items within a stash prior to run start are not being used during the course of the run. I will be updating the rules document to reflect this change when I can. Keep in mind that this is an interim rule and will be replaced by a migrate all requirement once such functionality exists again. This rule applies to the Pts runs sub-categories and Any % sub-categories. The geared pts run subcategory will not require this as the whole point of that category is you are starting/progressing from a geared state.

Hey all,

So that was a bit of doozy of a title. Essentially, we are going to be reshuffling/organizing the leaderboards slightly. This will not, in effect, change anything with the Pts categories. There will still be separate class-based leaderboards within each Run Length (A1/A3/A6) for Pts runs. However, by changing the category from A1 Pts/A3 Pts/A5 Pts to simply run length (ie A1/A3/A6) this will allow us to add Any % as a subcategory and Geared Pts Runs as a subcategory. Both the Any % and Geared Pts runs will not be class based leaderboards meaning all classes will be competing against each other rather on a single leaderboard than having a discrete leaderboard for each class. If that was not clear, here is an image of essentially what we are going to be doing:

Without going too deep into the weeds nor being exhaustive about all considerations involved in making this change, essentially the purpose of Pts runs and Any % runs are a bit different. Typically, interest/participation in PoE speedrunning is usually greatest for the categories which mimic a fast league start style scenario (in PoE1 Pts+Labs runs) with players being less interested in the pure fastest thing possible, but the fastest things for particular classes in the context of what someone would do at league start. Any % runs have had there place in PoE1, but more so usually as a race style category rather than something many people explicitly have interest in speed running. In other words, participation in any % runs corresponds to upcoming any % race events usually. Outside of any % races, any % participation had dropped pretty severely. Nonetheless, any % runs capture an animating spirit of speed running the goal of getting the game done as fast as possible. Because the primary goal of any % runs is just getting it done as fast possible rather than trying to find out the fastest class build to get through campaign in service of a league start of that class, the case for having separate class based leaderboards for an any % is not as compelling.

There is also the consideration of not having too many leaderboards. Once the other 6 classes are added, each run length category will have 12 class-based Pts runs, 1 class-indepedent any % run category, and 1 geared run for 14 total (Unofficial category will be phased out to being archived as EA issues are resolved such as migrate all being functional). Across three run lengths, this gives us a total of 42 leaderboards for each major patch. Having separate class-based leader boards for any % would result in this number increasing to 75 or so leaderboards per major patch. This number would get even higher if we had separate class-based geared runs.

On the topic of geared runs, there has been some interest in past in geared style runs. It has been a bit of mixed bag between people doing any % or doing pts style runs in PoE1 (ie leveling second char as fast as possible). To that end, we'll be experimenting with trying a geared run category for those interested in such runs. The leaderboards will be class-independent for the geared runs and the geared runs will use the Pts standard rather than any % as it more closely adheres to why people would be doing a geared run in first place. Pts being the run type for geared is not necessarily set in stone as we will be experimenting with it.

A ruleset will need to be developed for the any % and geared pts run subcategories and I would not expect the subcategories to be added prior to 1/6/25. Likewise, the reframing of the categories/subcategories will not take place before then as well. But to reiterate, the reframing does not, in substance, effect any change on the current Pts run categories, so players are free to continue running those under current rules and submit runs for approval

Hey everyone,

So I wanted to give a brief overview of the basic rule set in a short form. There will be a longer rule document forthcoming. There will be interim rules as needed to address any Early Access issues.

Timer Use:

  • Real Time Timer is required
  • Timer Start: When character first moves from starting position after standing up
  • Timer End: When goal boss dies/quest banner pop up occurs (both occur at same time)

Freshness Requirement (Interim Rule In Effect):

  • Basic Principle: Runs must be fresh
  • Eventual Rule: Must show migrate all before run start to ensure freshness of run
  • Interim Rule: Migrate all currently does not work in Early Access as a result, players should show prior to run start using a different character that:
  • They have zero gold
  • Their stash tabs are empty by going to stash and going through tabs to show they are empty

Solo Requirement:

  • All runs must be solo. To enforce this, players must complete runs in SSF or SSFHC

/deaths requirement:

  • Only required if you want you're run to have a deathless annotation. If not included/not in HC mode, will be treated as a runs with deaths

Passives/Stat Quest Requirements:

  • Runs should include all permanent stat buffs and passive points available to player at time of run end
  • Must show quest log/hover zones on world interface to show completion of the various optional quests for passives/permanent stat boosts at end of run
  • Only if a run category/format EXPLICITLY states that it is an any % are completion of the passive point/stat points not required.

Ascendancy Requirement:

  • Runs should include ascending where applicable
  • A3 Pts run will require obtaining at least 2 ascendancy points
  • A6 Pts runs will require obtaining at least 4 ascendancy points
  • Must show ascendancy tree at end of run where ascending is applicable
  • Only if a run category/format EXPLICITLY states that it is an any % OR it is not possible to ascend within the run length is ascension not required

Leniency Principle:

  • As PoE2 is still and Early Access, categories/rules are still being figured out, and runs are starting to be completed, there will obviously be some issues that crop up. As a matter of principle, during this period the mods will try to err on the side of leniency about issues with runs. We will also be adding an 'unofficial' class as a filter to allow anyone who might not otherwise meet the run requirements to still get runs verified/approved in an unofficial capacity as there may be some issue with their run (for example, starting with 3000 gold)

Hey everyone!

Early access for PoE2 begins today (12/6/2024). The Path of Exile 2 speedrun.com category and leaderboards will be established on 12/23/24. We are doing a 2 week gap between start of early access and publishing of the categories/rules to (1) give players time to play/explore PoE2 and (2) allow mods to start figuring out categories/run lengths. It is expected that there will be similar categories to those existing in PoE1 with the speedrun boards mainly focusing on campaign related speed leveling.

Take Care and Good Luck Blasting In Path of Exile 2,

Balaar and Rest of Mod Team

Following May 8 2021 PoE Speedrun Changes, it was decided to clear the forum section out of the few posts that were existing to ensure that posts were topical to new format. This thread serves as an archive for the few posts that existed on forum prior to that date. Linked below is a series of imgur photo links with the topic of the archived thread

We are open to seeing suggestions about various run formats that may or may not be present. One of the considerations that we have to take into account is how active such a category will be. If you are interested in trying to get a new category going, you can post a thread about the category indicating its a proposed category with an initial run under that categories rules and see if it drums up any interest. If it generates sufficient interest, the category may be added as an official category. The official categories that are currently listed on the website are those categories that are currently used or have been used relatively recently ( post 3.8 ) in community organized races. Otherwise, they are official categories because there are a fair number of runs submitted for them (Brutus Rush for example).

This post will detail all changes made to the PoE speed running website:

The format of PoE speed running is being changed after review by Balaar, Chip_Idiot, Havoc616, ImExile, Keld0rn, Tytykiller, and critical staff members from the PoE Community Racing Discord.

Among the major and most relevant changes: (1) Reverted: HC/SC as a filter subcategory will continue to exist to allow us to better evaluate interest in SC runs (2) All nontwink solo leaderboard runs must show migrate all (3) A5 and A10 skill point and lab categories have been added (4) A3 Any % category has been added (5) Runs require VoDs that do not expire. Please submit through youtube. If not make sure it is a twitch highlight (6) Leader Boards are now ranked by class within a category instead of archetype. Archetype will still be used but as an informational category rather than a ranking category. If you are unsure of archetype, a moderator will correct/select it for you on run submission (7) Occasionally there may be a PoE speed run event currently ongoing. If that is the case, the particular event will be the default selected category while it is going on. Otherwise, A5 Any % and A5 Pts+Lab will be the first two categories, followed by other categories. Brutus, Oversoul, Lvl 80, Twink A10, and Coop A10, can be found in misc category section

Minor Changes: (1) Old threads have been archived to give the board a fresh slate so topics are relevant to recent major changes. If you do not receive a reply to a question/thread within a few days, please reach out directly to a moderator. You can do so through a message or through the PoE Community Racing Discord by sending a message

Edit: Any and all rules and categories/formats or proposals to change rules/categories/formats, will be regularly reviewed by moderators. Please feel free to post a separate thread about any such requests.

If you want a format that is currently not on PoE speedrun, we are open to adding formats if sufficient interest is shown by the posting of runs for that category in this forum or in the PoE community Racing discord.
