Hello,
I posted a little while back about the run I'm working on and I will be recording attempts soon. However, I was unable to procure a North American boot disc for my Game Boy Player, and thus I've downloaded the VBA emulator and a SMA rom. I have the stuff on an ASUS gaming laptop and an Xbox controller configuration, and the laptop can capture footage perfectly fine, but what is the protocol for setup so I can make sure my run is verified upon submission?
Hello!
From my experiences you should be able to run on the standard VBA settings. If I notice that your VBA runs higher than the native frame-rate in your first couple submissions I will make sure to help you resolve the issue. Personally I've noticed that VBA runs at an unnoticeably slower framerate than the native GBA framerate, so you will find yourself at an extremely slight disadvantage. However, this only really matters at the highest level of any% for this game. We run these leaderboards with the leniency that will allow everyone with clean intent to participate, so everything is negotiable. Thank you for asking and good luck with your first runs!
Hey thanks! I did notice the aforementioned frame rate, but only because of the percentage display on the tab. I'm excited to get a run up soon!
So a few days ago I posted a speedrun of Super Mario Advance on YouTube, in the relatively empty All Yoshi Eggs category. The run has yet to be verified or rejected, I would like to make sure there aren't any issues with the video, and fix them if there are, before making further submissions of this game. The footage was captured using an Asus gaming laptop while playing on VisualBoyAdvance using default settings.
Also, I created a discussion forum to get clarification on the ruleset of the All Yoshi Eggs category, as there was a lack of clearly defined rules at the time. The run I submitted was deliberately less than optimal in an attempt to clarify what we thought should be the ruleset (Collect all 40 eggs, can start from a 100% complete file, must finish levels normally (trigger "Course Complete!"), and if you die, warp, or exit/restart a level through the pause menu you have to re-collect any lost eggs from that level)
Let me know your thoughts!
Sorry, I've been a little busy but just got around to verifying the run! Congrats on the complete yoshi eggs run! Sub 1 hour too :) I like your suggestion for the ruleset and agree with them.
