FYI Takeas_Realm spliced…

Just noticed takeas_realm deleted my comment under his submission that he clearly spliced his run so I guess I have to make a post here. It was a well mapped run and was impressive regardless but you shouldn’t submit a spliced run to the leaderboards. Take a close look at 22:27 in the run… headband reappears and gold count changes.

Norway

I'm looking at his run but not seeing it, do you mean 22:27 by takaes_realm's timer or 22:27 in the youtube video?

Rewinding a minute behind both, this is what I see:

I see him having going from 3607 gold, and after killing the Semi Demon he goes to 3907 gold.

Then after defeating the Flesh Fiend he goes to 4407 gold.

He appears to be wearing a headband throughout this minute, no change there.

Can you be a bit more specific exactly what's happening at when Wiffus?

I meant on the YouTube video’s timer. I was studying his video to make a run of my own since this was WR at the time. His headband prior to flesh fiend is off for a while and then suddenly it’s back on after he beats it. And his gold goes from 4436 on the kill screen to 4417 when he walks away from the portal

Could you perhaps link to the run in question? I feel like we are not looking a the same thing, because I see the same thing as Rubicate.

This is the run I was looking at but now it appears it isn't the one posted. No idea what happened there. Still kinda sus to me, but I don't feel like checking if the posted one is spliced like this one is.

This is troubling indeed - that's definitely spliced. Good spot. My guess is that when you made your original comment on his video, he switched his run to an older one which (presumably) isn’t spliced. Given the elapsed time and the fact that it is no longer the record, I think a warning can suffice? If another spliced run were to appear, it goes without saying that none of his runs can be trusted.

I have restored your orignal comment, Wiffus, and then added some context.

Yeah with it being 8 min behind your wr now (again major props and congrats), it's whatever. Just wanted to call attention to it. I'm guessing the one posted isn't spliced and he went the Dream route and shortcutted to beat the fastest time he found on the internet which his legit run was only a few seconds behind.

I think the two of you are being too lenient, consider the following:

Takeas_Realm's video is titled WORLD RECORD! and has a lot of comments congratulating them which they happily accepts to shower in the praise. This was a clear and deliberate attempt to unjustly grab the glory of the world record using illegitimate methods, with deliberate intent.

Let's be honest, Sinjid is not a competitive game, getting the WR is not that crazy of an achievement, you can copy the current WR's strategy and grind it for a few hours and you are likely to get a lucky run at some point that wins by a few seconds. I can understand that if you are grinding for weeks upon weeks, months upon months, somebody might be tempted to cheat to get the time they feel they "deserved" if not for bad RNG, but this is not the case here.

When Wiffus called them out Takeas_Realm deleted the comment rather than coming clean. That's a MAJOR red flag, and tells me this isn't some old mistake that happened in a moment of weakness, Takeas_Realm is willing to keep using dishonest methods, here, today, right now.

I honestly find it a bit baffling that the only interaction we have had from Takeas_Realm is a coverup attempt, and the responses are "let's forgive him!". That speaks well to your characters, and I applaud that you want to heal the situation and move on, but cmon, the guy hasn't even apologized. That's too lenient, and will encourage more cheating.

That being said, if you two still have the same opinion, I will defer to your judgement, but I seriously think you are setting yourself up to be exploited, we don't even know if his other runs are legit or just spliced better. Is the theory that he just spliced one World Record video, got away with it, and then decided to play straight from now on?

I would personally recommend a lifetime ban, reduced to a year if he comes clean and confesses any other faked runs, but upgraded to lifetime ban again if it turns out some of his other runs are spliced without him telling.

I want to add that I realize my response is rather harsh, but I really don't want newcomers to think that cheating is kinda acceptable and that the "first infraction is free, so it's safe to try."

I am also planning on getting in touch with the moderators of the other games he speedruns and informing them that he has been caught cheating at one occasion, and tried to cover it up. I will wait a week to let takeas_realm get a chance to reply first though.

You make some good points, but I wouldn't consider this "free", given the stain on his reputation this brings. If it were me, I would consider that part worse than a ban. In a way it also seems pointless banning someone who isn't actively speedrunning the game anymore, especially in a community this small. But perhaps it would be the more appropriate punishment, objectively speaking. How about this; a removal of his existing runs along with a ban that may be overturned upon a 'confession' and apology?

Norway

As long as he has to come clean I'm satisfied, not a fan of forgiving a person still actively working to hide their wrongdoing. I'm still gonna notify other moderators though so they can make their own decision, unless takeas_realm has some very good reason as to why I shouldn't.

Nordjylland, Denmark

Notifying other moderators is fair and a good idea. I have taken down Takeas_Realm's two runs, and written him a PM to formally make him aware of the situation as well as this post.

Norway

It's been 16 days and still no response. Did you get any answer on your PM?

Nordjylland, Denmark

I haven't gotten a response, but it says he has been offline for 19 days.

Norway

It appears Takeas_Realm has gotten some sort of site-wide ban.

Nordjylland, Denmark

So it does. Seems odd to ban someone who hasn't been online for a month if it's not related to this or other cheating. According to this, it is a banable offence though.
