So in the current first and second place runs, a skip is used in First Class where they go out of bounds and grab the device thingy from way above the train. Which was simple enough, and saves a lot of time. So I tried to do it in game, and it just…Isn’t there. It doesn’t load in above the train.
An update for the game seemed to have released-I know this because it asked me to choose a language when I booted up the game which it has never done before, and subtitles are an option now, in the update they seem to have patched the first class skip, as well as the ability to peek into the safe in winter break to grab things early. How are people still doing runs with these skips? I even repurchased the game on steam to see if I could roll it back to a previous version but there was no luck there.
Nevermind it's still up there, just looks further up than it did in the videos. Stil not sure about the safe skip but oh well, that one only saves like 4 seconds anyway
There can be a bit of cropping in YouTube videos that makes things look a little weird in VR compared to on the screen. I'll have to check out the safe clip to see if it will work for me still
Update: After some quick testing, I didn't notice any difference in the safe clip. That being said, I didn't seem to have any kind of language update either, so not sure how helpful this will end up being.
Found the problem, seems that you can only clip into the safe after pulling the candle now. Still saves a few seconds though so that's nice.
Nope new problem-I have rewetched the runs and the device spawns up much higher in my game than in anyone else's. Like literally for me it's only one or two pixels in VR and you can't even see it on the recording. I mean-What's really tripping me up is that nobody else seems to even know this update exists, there wasn't even an update log for it on steam. Really don't know what's goin on here
Ok so I did some experimenting with both the quest and pc versions of the game and it truly creates an unfair advantage.

This ^^^ gallery has screenshots of both versions. Clearly, the device on the pc version spawns much farther away (if you enlarge the image you can see the tiny speck that is the device to the top right of my telekinesis cursor) as opposed to the quest version. You also can't grab the device on pc at all.
So, I suggest a separate category is made for First Class for this skip, and all runs using this skip will be moved to that category. Furthermore, all missions would need to be fixed as well. Do we create a new category for that as well?
I don't really know. I just got a 7:58 run (yet to be verified) by using the skip on PC. It's still possible, just a lot harder, and it takes a lot longer to get the device down to you.
I'd say we might either need to make a separate category for quest and pc maybe, or maybe just give like a 5-10 second penalty to the quest version of the skip depending on how much time it saves over the pc version. Not sure though.
I just checked actually, the quest version of the skip is only 2 seconds faster. Still though, that's assuming that you are able to immediately grab it on pc, which usually takes like 5 seconds by itself.
wow I'm impressed you managed to grab it, nice job! (i tried for a couple minutes and failed lol). Anyway, I feel a penalty on the quest version is kinda scuffed and could be abused if someone does it perfectly on pc.
I feel like separating quest and pc would get confusing as well (also bc idek what psvr is like??). What if we created a separate category for the first class skip with the understanding that yes, technically the quest has an inherent advantage. This category would be for both pc and quest then, even tho it gives a 2 second+ disadvantage to pc, but with no added penalties (2 seconds isn't that long (?) ).
What do you think of this, and do you have any more suggestions?
In my honest opinion I feel like a 2 or even 1 second penalty might be best. That way, a perfect run on either platform would both equal out to the same time, there'd be no real way to abuse it. Might also just make things less confusing for separating categories, and since only three runs (that I know of) have done the skip, including the one I just did, it'd be weird to just shove those three into their own category. Especially because then a bunch of separate categories would be needed for the death engine update, seat of power update, and first class update variations of the run, as well as maybe even one handed%, telekinesis%, and EVERYTHING MUST GO% (idk if that category makes you throw the device but if it does then. yeah.)
Or maybe nothing even needs to be done for now. I mean, I lost those 2 seconds, as well as made a lot of mistakes that cost me like 15 seconds in my recent run, so there's still a lot of room for improvement-Though as the runs get closer and closer to perfection those 2 seconds might be more important.
hmmm alr those are some good points. I think your solution is fair, i'll just double check if 2 seconds is a good penalty time. Also, my only concern rn is with the psvr version of the game in case the skip is different on that platform, but idk anybody with a psvr to test.
oh yeah also i retimed your most recent run ashen and its like 7:46, nice job!!
yeah I now realize the rules were a little vague and stated that only after pressing continue was load time. In reality, the way we've been timing is that any time there is a solid color between levels is load time (with the exception of the start of first class for some reason)
Ah I see-Does the time in-between the end of a level and the continue screen also count then?
yes. although it's important to make sure it's actually the end of the level, for example with death engine i wait until the music ends.
At some point I might actually just make a video detailing how I time loads for ieytd1 and 2 to clear up any confusion tho
Hey pretty sure i might have been the one to do the cropping thing first in my one (fact check me on this ofc) what i did in the first class one was press the oculous home button to reajust the levels center relative to be, stand up to get out of bounds and grab the recording thingy.
From there just continued the run as normal using the home button to get back into the normal level once more. Just wanna provide that context into the mix on how i at the very least did it. PResently at the 5th place run on the catagory.
submit runs that span across all three IEYTD games here:
