Hi everyone!
Now that the Scoreboard Skip has been removed from the game, I think it's time to face the reality that this skip should never have been allowed in the first place. Any WR time set with the skip, unfortunately, should now be removed from the leaderboards.
I just... still can't believe anyone ever thought this was a good idea lol. We have ONE GUY on the leaderboard who is conspicuously 60-90s ahead of the field with all of his times.... and people are just chill with that??? A time save of 5 seconds per hole, at 18 holes, is 90 seconds! Shouldn't the leaderboard reflect the people who actually played the best golf, and not the random patch they happened to be playing on? The types of bad, horrible decisions people make when I'm not around to supervise is mind boggling.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Hello,
I would like to give my input on this. I know I haven't ran the game in about 7 months now but I have held the WR in Forest and Haunted for brief periods of time and am currently 2nd in those levels. It's also worth noting that I may come back to running the game at some point. I say this to give a little context to my opinion.
First off, can someone verify that SBS has been patched out? I am currently in a situation where I am unable to install the game and test it. If it has been patched out, how easy/feasible is it to play on a version of the game with it?
If it is still in the game or that version can be played easily enough, in my opinion we should continue to use it.
SBS cuts out a lot of dead time in the run that is just looking at a static screen. I think this is a good thing for several reasons but most importantly it allows runners to get more attempts in a session. I actually first starting running the game like 2 years ago but took a break after some life stuff occurred. I came back 7 months ago specifically because SBS was discovered.
I think for me personally, if SBS is dead or if it's not dead but we choose not to use it, I won't return to the game at any point.
I also just want to respond briefly to your general attitude and comments targeted towards the "one guy" at the top of the leaderboard on every level--Creepiumgamer.
Creepium nearly single-handedly brought running this game back to life. I watched him grind the game every day for months on end. You shouldn't discredit the hard work and time he put into this game. He actually held the WR in every level before SBS was discovered and he simply went back through all of the levels to get new times with SBS. He truly is one of, if not the best/most skilled runner for the game (minus Lance maybe because Lance is nuts). He is also one of the more active moderators of the community.
I'm honestly not even sure what you meant by "The types of bad, horrible decisions people make when I'm not around to supervise is mind boggling." I don't know if you used to be a moderator or something back in the day but your attitude is abysmal. Just glancing at the leaderboards for classic, I see you have some 3rd place runs from 3 years ago. But anyway, I'm glad you don't make decisions for the community.
I think that's all for now. I've given my two cents. Someone verify the status of SBS please.
yo! I can completely understand the concerns you have regarding SBS and it being patched out. I can confirm that it certainly doesn't seem to work anymore in the most recent update. However, it is still entirely possible to downpatch the game to the previous version and still utilize SBS that way. I will say though, I'm talking with another mod already about separating the board between SBS and no SBS. It doesn't entirely make sense to me to completely ban it, but I do get that in the most recent version it isn't possible and that probably should be accounted for to an extent. I don't have much else to say, but please ask if you have any questions
This brings back an issue that's plagued this game for a long time: version exclusive bugs, glitches, and shortcuts. It's been (a very long time) since I last submitted a run (the newest map was pirate cove or whatever, for reference), but every now and again I'll come back and play some of the levels again. It can be very difficult to try and make a leaderboard that reflects not only the best time, but also takes into account that some tricks just aren't available on the current version. A game that's been changed as much as GWYF over the years is a brilliant example of this.
First off, a solution for you not being able to do the glitch is to go into Steam and boot up an earlier version of the game [search engine is your friend, I forgot the process personally].
Second, be nice to the mods and your fellow speedrunners. It's not their fault that the game devs hate fun and patch all the cool glitches and stuff out.
Hi all,
I want to apologize for my shitty attitude in the OP. I have no excuse.
And I have no beef/problem at all with Creepium, so I especially apologize to him. I'm glad someone has pushed the game to its limits
