An option for Backwards Compatable PS3 would be really helpful for Playstation communities as PS2 games that play on BCPS3 can sometimes play much faster and so differentiating them as such from PS2 runs is important to us.
I think it's kinda hacky, but technically it's an emulator, so if you don't already use that it might be a good option
Specifically for Ratchet & Clank games, there is a difference in performance between games on PS2 and the games on PS3. There is probably a difference between a PS3 that runs a digital version of the game/PS3 disk, and a backwards compatible PS3 that runs a PS2 disk.
@DoubleDubbel Yes. The first four games in the series were originally released on PS2, and then received an HD re-release on PS3. Many other PS2 games/series are in a similar situation (just to name a few, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, God of War, and Shadow of the Colossus all immediately come to mind).
And yeah, they could use a variable, or somewhat-incorrectly mark runs as having been done on emulator, or just not bother to differentiate at all and mark the runs as PS3, or whatever, but none of these are solutions, they're workarounds (and frankly, pretty lousy ones). The point of them asking for this is to get an actual solution.
Anyway... the way platforms work on the site right now is pretty inadequate for handling ambiguities like this IMO, which I believe has been site staff's main reason for not adding it as a platform. That said, since the platform system is almost certainly not going to change anytime soon, (and also considering that every variation of Nintendo's Virtual Console "platforms" are listed separately, which is basically the same situation as this), I see no real downside to adding it.
At the moment we're just using the 'fireTV' console as a placeholder for BCPS3. Also using a variable is a really ugly solution for what is just playing on a different console.
