I was thinking that there could be some new more beginner friendly categories so i came up with these
Techless% Categories: No tech.
Beginner%: Only beginner tech.
Intermediate%: Only intermediate tech, no beginner tech.
and so on for advanced to gm
give me your opinions on this
more spicy category extensions would be nice
but limiting tech seems too complicated for both runners and verifiers (+rules)
Techless would be cool but making leaderboards that ban tech would be difficult and tech can vary in difficulty depending on the situation (room/strat)
I'd assume beginner tech would be stuff like basic hypers/supers without a reversal or extension, and probably screen transitions as well maybe?
Edit: Perhaps going with the SBJ categories of tech would be a good way of doing things too
fair enough, I think something like this would require extensive debates throughout the community for while to come to a full decision
Tech restriction categories are very unlikely to be added at any point for the reasons Malakbel mentioned (arbitrary and hard to enforce rules, and very easy for runners to accidentally break) + that's not even considering some of the less well defined bits of tech (what exactly counts as doing an "ultra" for example)?
You should also try running it, it probably isn't fun to not use tech. Besides being very tricky for verification purposes. The only exception is maybe dashless 1A and that's it. (and I don't even like dashless 1A)
More ideas for extensions is good though.
What about minimum dashes per level? I don't know how that'd work, but it might be a fun challenge to optimise. I don't know how it'd be timed though.
It'd be better if you figured out a required # of UNSKIPPABLE dashes then, so that a MIn-Dashes Any% run is doable.
Forsaken City A + B Sides are complete, here is my proof. If you have any ideas on how to lower the dashes, please do tell me. I'll keep gathering footage for this, if anybody cares for it.
If you guys don't want me to keep chucking the lowest amounts of dashes I could muster at this thread, please tell me. In the meantime:
If you care about lowering dashes for Celeste, there is the Celeste Challenges Discord. A lot of it revolves around TASing them first, but you also see occasionally human gameplay. Here is a spreedsheet of what dashes people have been able to save and been able to replicate as human players.
But we will not add a mindash speedrun category. Reasoning and other categories that we won't add can be found in the Category Extension Submission Spreadsheet.
The 2024 Any% Open starts this weekend! Make sure to catch the action live on the .
