Game and Dosbox configs
England

Attempted a run this evening (currently uploading to Youtube) and I crashed twice on Cross 3 when trying to kite large amounts of Kilrathi always when burning back to Nav 1. This has brought my crashes on this split using this strat to 3 out 3 attempts. Googling the error code shows some old threads from early 2000s saying there might be a sound config issue causing this. Would you mind sharing your dosbox and installer sound config settings?

Thanks!

I use a Dosbox Frontend called D-Fend Reloaded to configure my games, which stores the Dosbox config in a prof file with a lot of other settings, but the major relevant settings I use are as follows. The sound config should, of course, be in line with what you configure in Dosbox. --edit-- Actually, while the DosBox config has sb16 set, my Privateer installation detects/defaults/is set to just "Sound Blaster" rather than "Sound Blaster Pro/16

Thank you. Google suggests disabling speech might help. Otherwise not sure why my game is so unstable, PC is only a couple of years old.

Edit: i have cores to auto which I think might then set to max, wonder if that could be it.

Rerunning the INSTALL.EXE file should let you reconfigure the sound setup to match whatever sound card your DOSBOX is emulating.

I would not be even slightly surprised it this is a sound problem. This game has a nasty habit of crashing when two sounds play at once (the usual manifestation of this is when taking damage causes both cockpit explosions to go off at once, and it almost always crashes when that happens.)
