Been thinking about running this again and wanted to compare new timing rules. This would be ~11.79 if re-timed. Very nice
Would that not go against the "stock game" type requirements, or would it be treated similar to the embark profiles currently?
Edit: Had not looked at the updated rules wording this is a tough one, but I sure don't like it being an option
The Big Stick option. More restricting than I'd prolly like in actuality, but an option.
Only problem with downloading each time is its a super short run, and at least my runs are on the steam version. We'd have to turn off cloud save or smthn
No rush, I just remembered this when I was messing around with speedrunning portal and thought I'd check in on it.
relating to jade_orb's post, that is how the rattlesalad mountainhome run is, but he mentioned its because of some restriction he has. Fully stock settings would also invalidate my fast times, so it would knock the last 2 1st place times out. That a would be more fun to get my record back, but I'd prefer whatever people think is the best irrelevant of records.
"World creation parameters should be any of the included defaults in the game (i.e editing your files to provide you a perfect seed every time is not allowed)." Embark profiles are world creation parameters, change my mind.
After sitting back on this for 3 months, I do think I disagree with the embark profiles. I'm definitely biased, as I'd take first back though. It just bothers me that the run starts before world gen, while allowing settings that can only be edited after world gen. I think we need to change the rule on world gen or the currently unofficial rule on embark profiles
Looking at the rules again, I'd almost consider embark profiles to be editing files, but again. I kinda like it, and it wouldn't feel nice to take 1st back like that.
I've always opened the settings menu before a run just because SpeedPikl's previous run did it, and figured I should too, but there a settings in a number of places, so it would greatly extend the time between runs to have to tab through them. You also can't show your embark profile without first making a world.
That last point is the only issue I see with embark profiles. They aren't actually in settings, but in world gen. The question comes down to if we consider creating the profile a part of world gen. I like having access to it, but I also enjoy a bit more RNG, so I could go either way. However, I don't see any convenient way to show your embark profile other than putting it in the description.
I think of the embark size differently because it is in the settings you can access without generating a world. I do wish you could make an embark profile from the main menu. One potential problem I see in the settings is macros, but I don't know how helpful they'd actually be.
I like the idea of showing those settings, and letting them apply for x runs, but that is extremely impractical to me, as you would have to record for longer periods. I simply dont have the hard drive space for that. I use GeForce experience to capture only the last minute after PB's.
Personally love the embark profiles being available, and the way I read the rules, all the "default" settings include anything except changing external files. The only settings I can see being potentially problematic are macros, but I know nothing about how they function in DF so maybe they won't be.
The only argument I can see for embark profiles not being allowed is that you cannot set it up before world gen, you have to go into world gen and set up a profile before including it in your run. It could go either way, but as of now, I prefer the embark profile being an option.
Good optimizations bb
I've considering trying to get more dwarfs mining like Valkuma suggest, but I haven't found a way to do it that I feel happy with. In fact, I'm considering ditching the burrow entirely and just hoping for a god run with just the trench. I might be able to add a couple miners instead of doing the burrow, and then there would be more in the hole anyway. One problem I run into with the burrow, other than it taking time, is that it seems to stop the digging in the area when I make it, and I don't know why. I DEFINITELY think a sub 35 is possible, I've had multiple runs that short, where there the last dwarf alive is just standing in the hole.
May RNGesus bless your runs
