I just frame counted this run and the actual time is 7:30.933
Hello,
Today I went and out of curiosity, I framecounted the One Game (Lose) WR and the time came out to be a 8:02.256, despite the fact it is listed as an 8:03 on the leaderboard. Just wanted to bring this to the mods' attention!
Hey!
I am Nolmy and I am looking to get more into this game. I recently started doing orb 11 exit after not doing any SMW for years, and I have gotten to 10:52 so far. I am looking to take this further with cloud, however, I have a few questions first. This video shows what I've been trying for cloud but after many attempts, I haven't even gotten it once. Is there something I am doing wrong or is there something I am missing with the trick?
My other question pertains to the animation when you grab Yoshi in YI2. In runs I see, the animation for when Yoshi comes out of his egg seems sped up, how can I do this in my runs?
Thank you all in advance for your help and I can't wait to be a part of your community :)
for some reason on NEStopia AISSON doesn't work, but AIISON does work and has the exact same effect. You can just input that into the cheats option.
Bizhawk, FCEUX, and Nestopia 1.4.0 are the best NES emulators. Nestopia is my preferred choice, but Mesen is not that great in my opinion. You might also want to make sure you are using a good ROM of the game
You must be using the Japanese version of the game. You can only turn around on the flag in some stages, like 8-1 and 8-2, and in some instances like in 4-1 you can do a setup (like hitting the mushroom block) that allows you to flip around on the flag pole. You don't even do anything different, Mario will automatically grab the right side of the flag. For Lost Levels though you can backwards jump onto any pole and you will flip to the right side.
You are using a PAL version of the game. The PAL version of the game is much slower and worse in almost every way. You want to either be using a US/J version of the game. If are using an emulator the ROM should be easy enough to find.
That has to be allowed. If you want to get very technical, RGB modification is 'technically' hardware modification, but it is obviously not banned. I don't see anything wrong with it, especially since it's not allowing illegal inputs to be performed. A moderator's opinion though is always final so maybe my logic is very flawed but I don't consider this to be an issue.
Everdrive is the best option in my opinion, but you could also buy a game genie which allows you to select what stage you start on, eddiecatgaming has used a game genie for years and has a 4:56.2 so it is definitely helpful.
I honestly recommend that you do try to run it either on original hardware or an emulator because all other versions run at a slightly slower framerate, which loses time over the course of a run. If you were to submit a run like this though I would recommend submitting it either registered as NES and check the Emulator box or submit it under WiiVC, but specify that it is a 3DS run in the description of the run. Hope this was helpful
@alolyson Glad I was able to help and good luck to you going forward PogChamp
I don't see why it shouldn't be accepted. It is an official release by Nintendo and most leaderboards (Super Mario Bros., The Legend Of Zelda etc.) all allow runs to be submitted using the platform. It might just be a platform that the mods either forgot or are unaware of.
The practice ROM is super helpful. It will immediately stop you when you do something wrong and it is great for learning exactly what to do. After learning though I would recommend making a savestate in 1-1 after exiting the pipe after the underground section and practicing FPG from there. It can really help making the entire section muscle memory rather than only FPG. Hopefully this was helpful. Good luck
I recommend downloading the Pellsson practice ROM and learning how to do FPG by practicing with the scenario option. I also will recommend watching this video before doing attempts to understand what your doing and how it works.
If you mean Super Mario Bros. Deluxe then no, it is an entirely different game which has it's own leaderboard. However, there is a version released for the GBA under the Classic NES line of games which is allowed on the leaderboards.
you should be good as long as you point the webcam directly at the tv/monitor, although getting a capture card like an EasyCap or Dazzle would be useful if you decide to get better at the game.
