Hold Left on the D-Pad before starting a new game, then do so. This will allow you to skip the starting messages.
I discovered this AFTER submitting my original runs and did not wish to run the game anymore. So free wr for whoever reads this. Cheers.
Someone recently told me about a new glitch that greatly reduces the time of a run.
Skip to 19:30 to see it in action
Now because this glitch changes the game so drastically I propose it be added as a new variable for any%. So the runs on the board be changed to any% no level skips or any% no infinite height glitch and runs using the new glitch be any%. I will do some more runs now that this glitch has resparked my interest so thanks to PYTHON 77 for letting me know about it.
Shouldn't the cheat menus be banned since all of the special characters can be accessed without them?
Though there is one option on the N64 version that I think could make a cool misc category, 1 round fights. It's a faster and shorter run but considering I'm the only person to run the N64 version I wouldn't see a reason to add it.
The other one that could make a cool misc category would be the endurance kombat that makes the Tower (almost) all endurance fights. Again unless there is ever another person interested there is no reason to add it but I'll run em both for fun anyway.
I saw Cybernoid on the schedule for the BoNes marathon and it reminded me of a glitch I found over a year ago. I haven't seen this glitch in any TAS or speedrun so I assume it's still unknown. Figured I'd post it here in case TMR wants to improve his run or if anyone wants to pick this game up in the future.
The way the glitch works is you need to pause at the exact time that the screen transitions and then continue to press start rapidly. If done perfectly you could theoretically skip the entire game after the first level. Iv'e also found some other glitches but nothing as helpful as this.
cheers

If you, the reader, come away from this post with the conclusion that, "this guy's just salty" that is fine as you can read it however you want. I just wanted to post about my feelings concerning fast disc speed in MK4 and why I will not compete to reclaim the 1st place time(s).
Firstly, I have no issues against fast disc speed overall as quicker loading times are great and it is the fastest way to play Ps1 games. Mk4 was the first game where even though I knew it would be faster I was personally not ok with enabling it for the simple fact that it corrupts all of the audio in the game. When you run a game for several hours at a time listening to audio glitching isn't very fun, not to mention it made the game harder to watch for twitch viewers. The runs at the time didn't use it either so I figured they felt the same way. It was one of the few times where I found that fast disc speed broke the game so I sacrificed speed for play ability and watch ability.
I enjoy, in a weird way, when someone beats one of my times as it gives me a great excuse to go back and play the game again. If my run was beaten normally, I would compete to reclaim it because I love friendly competition as it can help grow and strengthen a community. However, if the only way to compete is to switch a hardware setting and play the game in a broken state than I feel the same way as I did when I started running MK4, that to me the tradeoff isn't worth it.
Good luck to any future MK4 runners,
G3
Proposing a new category that is a race to 100 points. I think it makes the game more fun and puts a lil more speed into the speedrun.
Basic idea came from here http://www.speedrun.com/Magic_Johnsons_Fast_Break#100_Points
Example Arch Rivals 100 point run
How much time is lost from not doing fast 4-2 and bullet bill glitch?
Whats the lowest time that can be gotten without those two glitches if played flawlessly?
Wondering if Bad Ending% could possibly be added as a misc category. I originally ran the bad ending 2 years ago on my youtube channel (back when i recorded a tv screen, yay) but recently improved the time on twitch. I imagine the category might not be popular enough considering the ending in itself is relatively unknown, but i figured id ask anyway.
An example run can be seen here
