Hey everyone! So recently, Version 11.8 of The Battle Cats has been released, introducing the new 3x Speed Up. However, this raises some concerns in terms of speedrunning because this power up is locked behind the Gold Pass subscription. This means that potentially, those who are able to purchase this benefit can achieve a significant advantage over those who cannot in power up categories. We wanted to hear some thoughts on how to deal with this new feature:
A. Nothing: The 3x Speed Up is still a power up, so it should simply be fair game for all "Power Up" runs regardless of whether or not it is a paid item. B. Separate Category for 3x Speed Up: The factors surrounding the acquirement of 3x Speed Up are significant enough to warrant its own category outside of the basic Power Ups category. We still want an option for runners wishing to run 3x Speed Up. C. Add as just a variable: Adding 3x Speed Up as a variable means that it'll be a piece of information about the run similarly to the "Platform" variable that tells whether someone is running iOS or Android. No Power Ups and Power Ups will still remain as the categories, but you'll be able to discern whether or not a run has been ran with the 3x Speed Up. D. Disallow 3x Speed Up: This power up should not be allowed because it's locked behind a monthly subscription, and puts those who cannot purchase the pass at a significant disadvantage.

Since it's a feature only available by buying the Gold Pass, I think it's best to not allow it for now. We'll consider making a separate category for it
Different SRC game sounds better as well considering they are on different platforms and one game isn't a direct port of the other.
Also btw, you don't need to change time to have enough energy to complete the speedrun so it's a time waste anyway. The game supplies you with enough free leaderships to be able to keep going

To be honest, I would be fine with a smaller server that's specialized for speedrunning, but it's up to you.
Hi! I just completed a speedrun of the battle cats rising new game, and I realized that the back to map button isn't unlocked until you clear the chapter itself, so it's redundant to have a split for nbtm and btm in this category :)
Should also add that the feature to purchase the Empire of Cats skip (ponos has a beginner bundle where you can pay like 5 bucks to have all eoc stages completed with treasures) is not allowed since it's pay to win lol. I also think the category should be called The Battle Cats Rising NG since most people only do bew game runs of the first chapter, and not all 3 chapters of eoc since that requires considerable grind for better treasures in order to realistically beat the bosses
It could be nice as an extra category, but I think it should be only limited to The Battle Cats Rising since it's the only one you can reasonably complete from a new save in a short enough amount of time to be an okay run. Could add it as like an extra tab alongside "Empire of Cats," "Into the Future," and "Cats of the Cosmos" as perhaps "The Battle Cats Rising Fresh Account" or something (better names can probably be come up with). I think it has a meaningful enough difference from the typical any cat runs that it should be split. The run can be reasonably completed in 1-3 hours, so I think it could be a good marathon type category people can compete in.
Yeah cat dojo removal is a good idea. I feel like achieving high points is more of having the right units and levels than cool tactics. The leaderboard system has always looked awkward too :| Stories of Legend I'm not entirely sure, but I think it could be interesting. Maybe have the main chapters be the full game leaderboards and the stories of legends chapters be apart of the level leaderboard instead.
Didn't think I would ever get a response, much less ten months later haha. Thanks for the response, and I think four mods is definitely enough for a speed game as small as The Battle Cats. I made this post when MLCrafter was the only mod, so I just wanted to increase the number of people on the team.
Good change! Runners with hacked accounts for stuff like speedups definitely have an advantage over those without them in the free powerups category :) I personally had to grind out powerups just to have a chance at a single world record attempt, and that's super demotivating for doing powerup world record attempts.
