Leaderboards overhaul/clean up

Personally, I would delete Bug Jump categories if you also want to separate glitched/glitchless runs. We've already experimented with this on tombrunner (air walk used to be "GG" category - glitched glitched) and it mostly confused people and it was just a bad decision.

Too many categories is bad. Let's keep it simple, guys. How about we use the same leaderboards template like we have in classic Tomb Raider games? It's simple, we have segmented categories, and glitched/glitchless runs are subcategories. Difficulty variable would stay as is.

The issue is if we only have glitched/glitchless and someone comes along and does IBJ in a run it'd basically ruin it all over again, just like it did before we separated it. After Niepanh put out his IBJ runs none of us wanted to run it for a combination of hating IBJ and not wanting to do it. I can do the weapon-switch variety of IBJ, it's just awful and ruins the game for me. It probably was a similar situation when "glitched glitched" (still a shitty name btw) came about, but it's kind of irrelevant now since if anyone is doing glitches in Legume/Tompa then they're airwalking. Not to mention airwalking is so easy, where-as IBJ is fucking hard.

Czech Republic

I'm not sure we should make a new category for IBJ just because the trick is hard. That's part of the speedrunning, isn't it? :)

Say that again after you do a run with IBJ

Switzerland

IBJ opens up so many possibilities that I think it warrants its own category. Routes involving the IBJ basically start to differ significantly once you have two weapons. Don't mind the BJ variable suggestion, it was just something I came up with on the spot to minimize the amount of categories/leaderboards. To be honest, I'm pretty happy with how the leaderboards look now compared to how they were before. From what I've heard, BJ category won't be empty for too long. Adding Glitchless as a subcategory should definitively happen.

Making Segmented a misc. category sounds good to me as well. However, I don't know if more people will find the runs when they're in a misc. category rather than if they were in the forums, because personally, I knew about the forums, but not about misc. categories until not too long ago. I don't mind either way.

Czech Republic

I wouldn't make IBJ a variable. In my opinion, a variable shouldn't affect the strats in any way (at least theoretically).

I'm actually also happy with how the leaderboards look now. It's simple, logical, functional and segmented runs are listed :D

EDIT: Now pls sort out the IL leaderboards as well.

Switzerland

I know, I just said that the variable option is off the table, forget about it. :)

By sorting out, you mean they should have the same layout as the full run leaderboard now has, or do you have something else in mind?

Czech Republic

Yeah, same layout.

Switzerland

Alright, I gave the IL leaderboards the same layout. However, there is a bit of a problem, because I set No BJ as a default value (as this is what most people would submit it as), but that makes the No BJ category the "primary" category being displayed in the IL Any% leaderboards overview, which I think is a bit misleading, because BJ times are faster and are "true" Any%. In my opinion, BJ ILs should be shown first (because we actually have BJ runs to show), but that means they would be the default value.

Maybe I still don't have the hang of the edit section, so there could be an option I've overlooked.

Czech Republic

Yes, if you want the BJ subcategory to be displayed first, it has to be set as default.

Btw, how did you add rules for each subcategory value?

Switzerland

Okay, then what's everyone's opinion on this? BJ or no BJ as default value for ILs?

I grouped the subcategories for full runs and ILs into one variable respectively, with each subcategory being a value. Then I assigned each of these values (subcategories) a rule. Just check it out under Edit Game. I know I basically jsut restated what you asked, but that's literally all I did.

Brazil

I'm in favor of BJ set as default for ILs (pretty obvious I guess... :)) As for the full game leaderboards, I think it's pretty good the way it is now. No BJ as default since we actually don't have a "true" Any% run. The only thing I think it might need to be changed is to switch the name "Bug Jump" back to Any%. But again, that would probably make more sense once actually have a run of that type.

EDIT: I noticed my Natla's Mines IL run is listed under the "No BJ" category. This is wrong, since I did use BJ (Go to 01:03 in the video). I used Niepahn's method to perform a double jump.

United States

I agree with Taeruhs. BJ as the default on ILs and when we get a full run with BJ, make it the default Any% run with no separate BJ/no BJ category.

Czech Republic

Same opinion.

United States

Yeah, I can understand your frustration. But it's like when Riku found Airwalk. Everything changed after that. You just have to deal with it. Or not. The choice is yours.

England

Hi everyone! Happy Xmas to y'all!

I know this thread's been dead for a while now, but I do plan on making a segmented run of TRA. I have 4 segments right now, making use of all glitches except the Bug Jump. I'll try to upload them soon, hopefully tomorrow. I'm not as great as some of you, but my calculations say I should get Peru under 5 minutes. Saying it now because I just read about you wanting to delete the Segmented category...

Czech Republic

It won't happen.

United States

Was cleaning up the leaderboards also meant to remove all segmented runs? I got a notice that my Qualopec run was "rejected" (even though it has been up there for years). The reason given: Segmented run.

Czech Republic

Seems like Cadarev removed it because it didn't use the "replay level" function. Not sure why, though. Cadarev?

New Rules / New Windowed Mode

As of the posting of this message, these rules apply for every category:

  • Changing framerate using a third-party program (e.g. Dxtory, RivaTuner...) mid-run to perform specific tricks is banned. However, you are allowed to switch your refresh rate through the game's options during your runs.
