Hi all! I have loads of questions about speed running this game.
-
The current (and only) 100% World Record is named so according to collecting Lamont's favourite things. As another runner has pointed out this route forgoes catching ALL of the Earthling's and also skips grabbing Trixie's bonuses. Could it be possible that these other criteria may form a separate category? I understand that if no-one runs the game it's kind of unnecessary if no-one is bothered, which brings me to my next question...

Where are all the runners? Other forum posts would suggest there is some sort of community somewhere that cares for it? If there are, how comes only 1 run on the boards?

The rules. The run on the boards (congrats to Deign, it's a great run) is a single segment RTA performed on console, though i think another segmented run exists on SDA. Are emulator runs allowed? I believe the timing of current Genesis emulators is accurate enough that runs performed using them are generally allowed alongside console runs on most speed running boards.
I'm asking because I'm interested in putting together a run for this game both Any% and 100%. I know this will be a lot of work in terms of routing it out, defining categories etc. I really want to do this because I think this game deserves it, and could actually be a really cool, really slick looking run. Please, if anyone has any of the answers for me let me know.
There is a ToeJam and Earl Speedrun Community discord; it consists mostly of TJ&E1 and TJ&E:BitG runners. It's linked-to off of the series page and the pages for those two games, but not this one. https://discordapp.com/invite/NrBtvqK
I also agree that the TJ&E2 board could use more love with regard to categories and rulesets.
