"Infinite Consumables" Vanilla Cheat

When using a stim, healing / status effect item or food, the inventory of that item ticks down by one with each item you use.  However, there is a way to not lose the same item you consume.

The window to perform this glitch is actually quite large.  If you drop the item after you consume it and before the game updates the inventory of that item, the item will then be on the ground, and you still have the status effects from that consumable.

So basically, you can take advantage of the game's slow updating system in order to achieve infinite consumables.

There is an exception to thrown weapons, flares, rope, and bombs.

Grappledashing

All of the weapons and tools in Starbound possess properties that permit insane things to occur, and the Grappling Hook is no exception.  

First discovered and showcased by Oktopoda in January 22th, 2018, this trick thrusts the player forward at near impossible speeds outside of the modding community.  When coupled with the speed and jump boosts, this exploit takes records to places they have never even been before.  What makes this powerful tech so useful to the speedrunning meta we currently have?  Allow me to explain.

At maximum potential, you can travel twice as fast than you can on foot with no tech; this effectively means that it beats out the air dash tech, the Drill Rocket strategy in some instances, and yes, even the trail dash broadsword.  With such an overpowered method, is it too hard to use in a competitive setting?  If you've been following the records, than you'll know that the answer is obviously no.  This begs the question, "how can I use this?"

1. Obtain the Grappling Hook item.  Of course, this will be the essential item for this exploit to work.
2. This is more of a recommendation, but you will want to obtain a mobility augment, ultimate juice, and green and blue stims  so you can at least understand how it feels to use this in a typical speedrun setting.
3. Once you've gotten yourself all set up, find a section of flat land.  I recommend the Ark as a good starting place, particularly the top is perfect (although you may want fullbright on).
4. Launch the Grappling Hook about 10-15 blocks away from you.
5. Moving towards the hook, pull yourself in towards it while jumping you you should briefly gain intense speed.
6. Complete number 5, but this time, release at the apex of your jump.  The result is you maintaining all of the acceleration you obtained in the jump.  By itself, this already helps us a lot, but we're going to take it one step further.
7. Equip the multi-jump tech on your character.  If you already did this, awesome!
8. Do step 6 again, but this time, use multi-jump to extend the time that you maintain all your momentum.

Successfully completing step 8 will result in the fastest possible setup for this trick.  It takes practice, but if you like speedrunning Starbound, keep at it!

How to Enhance Your Speedruns With The Ferozium Staff's "Force Cage"

In recent developments, the Starbound Speedrunning Community has discovered a series of glitches relating to the buggy behavior of the Barrier ability on the Ferozium Staff.  Specifically, this glitch involves breaking the collision of doors designed to stay closed until completing a certain action or activating a trigger.  As a brief disclaimer, the Individual Run speedruns rely on you getting to the teleporter at the end of the mission as fast as possible.  That said, this only works in very selective areas, so here's a list of notable locations where this can be used effectively to bypass much of the level or save time in a speedrun...

TYPES OF BARRIER CLIPS:
+ (Default) Barrier Clip - Allows you to bypass all one block wide doors and walls when your character is on flat, solid ground.  This is the clip that will be mentioned unless the other advanced methods are explicitly named.
+ Advanced Barrier Clip - Allows you to bypass most two block wide doors given the conditions of terrain around the door.  The "Blink Explosion" special ability for Spears and Broadswords is used after specific placement of the barrier.  A jump is required to make it through the door after blink explosion is activated.
+ Erchius Barrier Clip - This unique clip is used just for the final door in the Erchius Mining Facility that divides the Erchius Horror from the teleporter.  You have to position the barrier high, use a broadsword with "Rising Slash" to get stuck in the barrier, and then utilize the blink explosion to get through the door.  This is hard to explain, so be sure to see the video at 2:45 for a better visualization.

The Great Sovereign Temple:

Come to the first one-block wide portcullis.  The trigger to open it is actually up and to the right of the door.  To reach it, you must move up and through the tunnel switchbacks before finally reaching it.  We can skip this entirely.  Move up against the door and position the cursor a little below the middle of your character model and to the left a few blocks.  This is better seen on camera or in video as a reference, so go check it out if you need a bit of help with positioning.  Once you get the first barrier clip successful, don't move your mouse, and perform it two more times on the adjacent doors.  You will find yourself in the next room without having to wait for Tonauac to open the tunnels or the doors manually.

The following skip is for a bit of lore that you can obtain rather quickly without any real consequences.  A single-wide portcullis is found right above the first appearing laser maze.  Clip through it, and you'll find the tomb where the lore book lies.

When you eventually get to the room with scorpion spawners on both sides of a Kluex Sentry, don't even bother destroying the Kluex Sentry.  Doing so would initiate Tonauac's next set of dialogue in the mission, but we don't care about him because... oh wait, there's a single-wide portcullis right under his dropdown zone.  Perform the clip, except this time on the left side instead of the right.

The Miniknog Stronghold:

Spoilers, this mission gets destroyed by the barrier clip.

When you approach the beginning of the mission, you receive some dialogue from Lana Blake in the tower gate.  Reading through this is completely optional, however, as the two doors right below her can be clipped through.  Although getting through them puts you on the front lines, you avoid the entire sewer part of the mission, effectively skipping three quarters of the mission.  The other quarter is the boss.

After the boss, you will be in this underground room with the teleporter behind a door to the right.  Lana Blake normally will go through some dialogue as you get the artifact, but if you aren't there for the artifact, then get out of there!  Easy as that.  The door to the teleporter is just as easy to clip through.

The Baron's Keep:

This ENTIRE mission revolves on what little stage there is being used as a battleground for fending off waves of cultists, and just when you think it's over, a bone dragon comes to ruin your day.

Well, you would experience that if you cared about the glitch artifact.

The two doors to the left where the teleporter is can simply be clipped through.  I personally have achieved a time of less than ten seconds.  This mission is the only one that can be completed in less than ten seconds with the exception of the minibosses.

Erchius Mining Facility:

Play the mission until you reach the first Moontant with a hammer and the checkpoint off to the left in the bunker building.  Open the latch, defeat the Moontant, and only one door remains.  Use an Advanced Barrier Clip as mentioned before, and it should save you time, especially if you don't have a great deal of speed items equipped.

Once you inevitably reach the boss room, don't jump through the platforms in the room.  Instead, travel a little ways right and the final door will stand in the way of the teleporter.  Perform the "Erchius Barrier Clip" to reach the other side.  This is done because the Advanced Barrier Clip will not work on platforms as you will just trap yourself.  By performing the glitch in a raised position, you are eliminating the platform variable, and you're free to clip through the door because of this.  See the video at 2:45 for a better idea of what you need to do to accomplish this clip.  Essentially, you will be skipping the Erchius Horror boss fight.

This glitch doesn't concern the rest of the missions not mentioned.  I will gladly update this guide if new evidence shows that there are new skips and clips in the aforementioned missions.

Instantaneous Universe Warp

As the title of this guide suggests, this glitch is used to save time during a full-game speedrun.  The amount of time it takes to travel from one galaxy to another can be long and annoying to sit through.  A simple way to bypass this "unavoidable" time wait is to leave the game once the ship is moving toward the galaxy.  Rejoin with the same character, and you will be at the galaxy.  The action of utilizing this easy glitch should save around 15 - 20 seconds if performed correctly.

One of my favorite things about this glitch is the fact that you can use it in normal gameplay and it actually enhances it.  You will no longer be waiting for your ship to slowly sail towards galaxies anymore!

This glitch does not work for individual planets, ships, gates, stations, or "anomalies."

What you do is the person who owns the ship will save and quit at the same time as the other person clicks take all in the ship locker. This can be done with any item as long as it's in the ship locker.

Statistics for the Cultist waves in The Baron's Keep

I recently viewed a map of The Baron's Keep and it showed spawn locations for both the friendly NPCs and the catapult and bomber vehicles within the level.  They all go to the same place across runs, so the level isn't random by any means.  Waves indicate a slight pause from one group to the next.  Use this time to your advantage.

Aside from this, here is the list of spawns of cultists from all waves of the fight.

Wave I - Group 1 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns on top of the hill upon the final boxes of dialogue from the Baron.  They will progress to your player, so when you arrive to fight them, it's likely that they will have already come to the bottom of the hill.
Wave II - Group 1 (2 melee, 1 archer) spawns between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill.  Group 2 (2 melee, 1 archer) spawns at the medieval cart on top of the hill.  Both groups spawn simultaneously. 
Wave III - Group 1 (2 melee, 1 archer) spawns between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill.  Group 2 (2 melee, 1 archer) spawns on the bridge next to the castle. Both groups spawn simultaneously. 
WAVE IV - Group 1 (1 CATAPULT, 2 melee, 1 archer) spawns at the beginning of the flat plain right next to the spawn hill.  A melee cultist will be advancing the catapult forward.  Group 2 (2 melee, 1 archer) spawns at the medieval cart on top of the hill.  Both groups spawn simultaneously. 
Wave V - Group 1 (2 melee, 1 archer) spawns in between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill.
Wave VI - Group 1 (3 melee, 1 archer) spawns on the bridge next to the castle.  Group 2 (2 BOMBERS) spawns near the top of the 4th tree in from the castle.  Both groups spawn simultaneously. 
Wave VII - Group 1 (1 CATAPULT, 2 melee) spawns at the beginning of the flat plain right next to the spawn hill.  A melee cultist pushes the catapult forward.  KOIICHI will begin speaking, and NURU will spawn shortly after near the 2nd tree in from the castle. Closely following is LANA BLAKE, who spawns at the first standing banner from the hill.
Wave VIII - Group 1 (2 melee, 1 archer) spawns in between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill.  Group 2 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns on the bridge next to the castle shortly after group 1.  Group 3 (1 BOMBER) spawns above the first standing banner from the hill shortly after group 2. Group 4 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns next to the medieval cart on top of the hill almost immediately after group 3.  
Wave IX - Group 1 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns on the bridge next to the castle.  Group 2 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns next to the medieval cart on top of the hill almost immediately after group 1.  Group 3 (1 CATAPULT, 2 melee) spawns at the beginning of the flat plain right next to the spawn hill almost immediately after group 2.  A melee cultist pushes the catapult forward.  Group 4 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns in between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill almost immediately after group 3. Group 5 (1 BOMBER) spawns above the 4th tree in from the castle after group 4. 
Wave X  - Group 1 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns in between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill.  Group 2 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns on the bridge next to the castle after group 1.  Group 3 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns next to the medieval cart on top of the hill after group 2.  Group 4 (1 BOMBER) spawns above the first standing banner from the hill shortly after group 3.  Group 5 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns in between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill shortly after group 4.  Group 6 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns on the bridge next to the castle after group 5.  Group 7 (1 CATAPULT, 2 melee) spawns at the beginning of the flat plain right next to the spawn hill after group 6.  Group 8 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns next to the medieval cart on top of the hill while group 7 spawns in.  Group 9 (1 BOMBER) spawns above the first standing banner from the hill shortly after groups 7 and 8.  Group 10 ( 3 melee, 2 archer) spawns in between the two standing banners in the space between the bridge and the spawn hill shortly after group 9.  Group 11 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns next to the medieval cart on top of the hill shortly after group 10.  Group 12 (3 melee, 2 archer) spawns spawns on the bridge next to the castle shortly after group 11.  Group 13 (1 BOMBER) spawns above the first standing banner from the hill shortly after group 12.  

And that marks the end of this wall of text.  Travel to the Baron as soon as the last bomber begins the death animation and you will save precious seconds.  Upon talking through more of his dialogue, the Bone Dragon boss will spawn.  You know you've done it right if you defeat the boss before Asra Nox finishes his first line of text.  You can then proceed as normal.

If you didn't feel like reading all that, I'll break it down very simply for you. 

There are 3 places gangs of cultists can spawn, and 1 place each for the catapult and the bomber variants.  Cultists spawn on the bridge, between the two standing banners, and next to the medieval cart on top of the hill.  Bombers spawn above the 4th tree in from the castle, and catapults spawn directly next to the spawn hill right where the flat plain begins.  The wall of text above is the order of which all these spawn.

As you might notice, cultists either spawn in groups of 3 or 5.  2 melee cultists spawn with the catapult with the only exception being wave iv.  Bombers spawn by themselves with exception to wave vi.  So there is a very simple method to all of the spawns and it really just takes time to memorize.

TL;DR - The Baron's Keep cageless is not hard.  With a little practice, we can take the record clear to 3:20.  I believe in us!

Plenty of items are used in IL courses for maximum efficiency, speed, and damage output.  Below are some items that you may consider adding to your shopping list before you start.


Tech:
Head - Aqua Sphere
Body - Blink Dash for Hylotl & Human Mission / Air Dash for everything else
Legs - Multi-jump

Armor & Augments:
Ferozium armor equipped in all respective slots for max potential
Cooling EPP Upgrade with Mobility augment, exception for bosses as you equip the max tier rage augment before the boss begins.

Weapons:
Sword Effects - Trail Dash, Blink Explosion, Rising Slash
Other weapons: Thorn Grenades, Ferozium Staff, Throwing Stars, Drill Spear

Tools:
Green & Blue Stim (Yellow & Orange Stims are helpful, but not necessary for completion)
Grappling Hook

Aid:
Nanowrap Bandages
Ultimate Juice
Tonauac's Blessings from The Ark (Cycle through days for different 30 minute-long buffs.)
