Maps

This is a set of official maps published by Konami on their website that has since been taken down, the maps can currently be accessed via the Wayback Machine but I've decided to collate them here for convenience. They contain info about various routes, where hidden items/guns are located.

They're also in Japanese and I do not feel like translating them!!

Translation of key point: At circle (1), select the right arrow path. The resulting encounters are quicker by about 20 seconds.

Translation of key info here: 

At circle (1), a door bangs. If you shoot it open, you can immediately start this encounter. It is faster however to not do this and let the encounter happen on its own since it'll overlap with other enemies making it more efficient.

If Jessie is allowed to die, the game places you on what this map terms the "Easy" route at circle (2). It appears to be faster however, to save Jessie and shoot out the metal panel blocking the elevator control.

Translation of key info: At around the circle marked (3) on the map, if your hitrate is above 85%, you enter the "Otherworld" route for a short segment. This is very unlikely to happen in normal or speed play.

At circle (1), select forward arrow to get the key and then the left arrow to immediately head to the door that opens with it. Every other path simply goes in a circle.

Translation of key point (for top half of image): If you do not shoot the gun when passing by Enemy No. 8, they won't appear. If you do not shoot while passing by Enemy No. 11 (it's the three dogs munching on a corpse), they will not notice you.

Translation of key point: Getting hit by enemy encounter [6] here will knock you down a flight of stairs, skipping a couple of encounters. This is a couple of seconds faster, it seems.

Note: A UFO will appear during the last boss.
