So After completing my first rain world speed run I actually want to get into speedrunning this game. So I want to know a few things before I start.

1.) What kind of movement tech do I need to learn?

2.) Is the game better to speedrun with a controller or keyboard?

1. There are a lot of resources for movement tech. Wiki , Doc , Video . There's a pretty big range honestly and some categories care about different things. I think the most bread & butter is Fast Pole Climb, Fast Rolls (if not using keyboard), and Extended Slides. Work up to the more difficult and niche stuff.

2. There are advantages to either, and people have solid runs with both. Personally, I find Keyboard easier as Fast Pole Climbs are very difficult with the controller, and Fast Roll can be done with a button as there is a mod that is permitted.

2. Generally most players favour keyboard, as the fast pole climb is substantially easier to do on it.

I have a question as well,

As an Xbox player (I would play on PC if I had one) I would like to do a speed run. My problem is that one of the rules requires the remix speed run timer to be on and this apparently isn’t an option on Xbox, as I have looked a can’t find it. Could someone point me in the right direction?

I can't see if I can directly ping but if you're playing with Downpour under Rain World Remix. You are looking for the first option under which is Speedrun timer.

So I had a root around and couldn’t find this option. I know this game was originally optimised for PC players but if there is not an option it means that console players cannot do speed runs

You have some way to record your gameplay, yes? Can you join the official Rain World discord (https://discord.gg/rainworld) and post in the #speed-score-runs channel (https://discord.com/channels/291184728944410624/406092161281687572) about this problem. Easier for me compared to replying here.

I don't know if any of the mods have the Xbox version of the game or what you have going on but it would be helpful to see a video of what settings are available to you. Probably I'll have you DM me the video or something. Worst case is that the runs are just done with Real Time

I have a question. Can you do a speedrun with a friend with Jolly coop if they play, the same character?

Currently we have no runs that allow multiple players with jolly coop, although it could be fun they are not significantly different from the base categories and we haven't had many people do multiplayer runs as it is.
