There are two strategies for this trainer. You can use Articuno who 1-HKOs everything with Ice Beam or you can use Starmie who can 1-HKO everything with Bubblebeam/Thunder. Unlike Articuno, Starmie is faster than Diglett/Dugtrio. This would save you maybe 20-30 seconds if you get both Dugtrio and Diglett but if you miss Thunder or Dugtrio lives Bubblebeam you will lose time compared to Articuno.

Beware of Poliwag. If you miss Thunder, Poliwag will try to Hypnosis you and set up Amnesia boosts, raising his Special. This will not stop your run, but it does waste a lot of time. substitute before you Thunder to shield yourself from Hypnosis if you're concerned about Poligwag.

~Strategy~
This is the first bullshit trainer of the run.
 
All of Junior's Pokemon have accuracy dropping moves. This makes her somewhat tricky to deal with and if not handled properly (or if you're just unlucky), she can absolutely destroy your run.
 
Lead with Electrode. Thunder Seadra and Pidgey, Swift + Selfdestruct Voltorb, Selfdestruct on everything else. After Electrode faints, bring in Articuno. Sky Attack Kadabra is he's still around. Swap to Jolteon if Seadra pops up later on. Ice Beam whatever is left.
 
Console plays can consider bringing in Jolteon instead of Articuno if they aren't afraid of Diglett and Kadabra. For Jolteon, Thunder Pidgey and Seadra. Thunder Jigglypuff twice. Feel free to finish Jigglypuff off with Double Kick if you don't mind losing a few seconds. (2s-3s)
 
 
~Alternate Strat~
This strat uses Zapdos, who is more reliable and is recommended if you are doing your first run.
Lead with Zapdos and substitute on whatever Junior leads with. Thunder Seadra, Voltorb, Jigglypuff, and Pidgey. Sky Attack Kadabra and Diglett. Electrode can come in on Kadabra if you're having trouble KOing him with Zapdos. Articuno is there if you need some reliability or Zapdos faints.

~Strategy~
Surge can be frustrating. Raichu has access to Surf and on the off-chance that he critical hits Nidoking, your run will probably end.
 
The battle is straightforward. Dodge Voltorb and Electrode's Explosion/Selfdestruct with Articuno and Earthquake everything else. This battle is all about good RNG.
 
Nidoking can live one non-crit Surf from Raichu as well as well as one non-crit Surf from Pikachu right after.

Back Up team
Lead dugtrio and dig everything its a slow fight but you will win

~Strategy~
The goal here is to set up one Swords Dance with Kabutops on Jiggly/Ratatta/Eevee then sweep Lass's team with Submission/Take Down and Hydro Pump.
 
Jigglypuff, Eevee, and Rattata all have some way of screwing you over. Jigglypuff has to potential to freeze you with Ice Beam while Ratatta can paralyze you with Thunder. Eevee is probably the worst of the three as it has and uses both Double Team and Sand Attack.
 
While this fight is very simple and straight-forward, it is not without it's nuances. Between Take Down, Submission, and Hydro Pump, Kabutops is attacking with 80% - 85% accuracy moves. One miss could screw you over and hurt your run. If this happens, bring in Articuno and spam Ice Beam it will 1-3-H everything on Lass's team.

~Strategy~
This is an interesting fight. Chansey has access to the 55% accuracy sleep move "Sing". While this move seemingly has low accuracy, the AI being the AI, Sing will normally land and your Pokemon will helplessly fall asleep. The goal here is to avoid losing time to Sing.
 
Nidoking will lead. If Cool Trainer leads with Parasect or Marowak, swap into Articuno and Ice Beam. Otherwise, stay in and Earthquake the Nidos. If Lickitung comes in, he's a 3-HKO with Earthquake and a 2-HKO with Ice Beam.
 
Optimally, Chansey will come in turn 1 or show up before you have to switch to Articuno. Dealing with Chansey is simple. Earthquake it, Horn Drill it, Ice Beam it; Whatever floats your boat! As long as Nidoking or Arti get put to sleep and Kabutops is still in good shape, you're doing well.
 
Once Nido or Arti is asleep, swap out to Kabutops and set up a Swords Dance. Chansey shouldn't use Sing here. From here on out, you're ready to sweep the rest of the team. Smash Chansey and Lickitung with Submission and hit Parasect and the Nidos with Take Down. Marowak dies to Hydro Pump.
 
If Cool Trainer doesn't have Chansey, the battle is much simpler. Both Articuno and Nidoking can 1-2HKO all of Cool Trainer's team with their respective STAB moves.
 
 
Note ~ Moltres is a viable alternative to Articuno, dealing more damage to it with Take Down than Arti does with Ice Beam. On the topic of Articuno, do not use Rage or Sky Attack if Arti is the one being put to sleep. You'll be locked in during your sleep turns and not be able to switch until after you wake up.

Erika is simple but dangerous. One missed Fire Blast and you run could be over.

This is a very fight. Ditto is the only problematic Pokemon. Lead with Mr. Mime and spam Psychic. Ditto excluded, everything is 2-HKO'd by Psychic.
 
For Ditto, Psychic him once and then Seismic Toss to finish him off. Remember that Seismic Toss only does 50 damage since Mr. Mime is level 50. If Ditto has more than 50 HP after a Psychic, Psychic him again. The reasoning for this is that Biker likes to switch his Pokemon in and out a lot for some reason. Hitting Ditto with Psychic when he's above 50 HP is a safe way to also hit something hard on a potential switch-in.

Koga should lead with Muk or Weezing. Lead with Nidoking and Earthquake it. Assuming everything went alright and Nidoking is still in good health, Venomoth should come out as Koga's second Pokemon. Have Nidoking tank one Psybeam and hit Venomoth with Earthquake. Bring out Electrode and Self-destruct on Venomoth. At this point, Mr. Mime will be able to clear Koga's final Pokemon with Psychic.
 
Should anything go wrong with the above method, you will have to resort to using Mr. Mime to clear Koga's gym. Mr. Mime 1-HKOs both Nidos and gets 2-HKOs on Weezing/Muk. Mime and Venomoth are speed-tied. This means that they both have the same speed stat and there will be 50/50 "coin flip" to decide who goes first. Resorting to Mime is slower overall since Venomoth has access to Sleep Powder which can prolong the fight quite a bit.

Golbat can be taken care of by Zapdos who also conveniently deals with Tentacruel and Lickitung as well. Should RNG get the better of you and Nidoking/Zapdos faint, Mr. Mime is a solid backup being able to 1-2HKO everything aside from Lickitung.
 
Alternatively, you may use Articuno in place of Zapdos. However, doing so sacrifices important coverage on Tentacruel. What you lose in coverage you fain with a 100% accurate Ice Beam that 1-HKOs Golbat and 2-HKOs Lickitung.
 
If you're a sissy and are terrified of Haunter's 18.5% chance to critical hit Nidoking, Mr. Mime can tank a Psychic and two Night Shades to 2-HKO Haunter with Psychic. Psychic should still 2-HKO through one Special drop.

Lead Arti. Ice Beam Hypno, Mr. Mime, and Exeggutor. Mr. Mime and Exeggutor are 2-HKOs. Hypno is a 3H but likes to use the Hypnosis to Dream Eater combo. If Hypno sleeps Articuno, swap to Tauros and finish him off with Strength. It should be a 2-3HKO depending on how much damage Articuno dealt to him.
 
Sky Attack Alakazam and Kadabra. Tauros' Strength can 2HKO Alakazam and 1-HKO Kadabra.
 
Switch into Electrode if Jynx comes out. One of two things will happen here. Jynx will either use Lovely Kiss or Ice Punch. What move Jynx uses depends on the status of the Pokemon you switched out of. Optimally, Articuno or Tauros will get Poisoned by Alakazam or Exeggutor somewhere along the battle and force Jynx to use Ice Punch on Electrode

This fight is slightly annoying due to the general nature of Psychic types in Gen 1.
 
Lead with Zapdos. Your job this battle is to Thunder the Water types and Sky Attack the Psychic types. The exception to this rule is Hypno. Hypno uses the ever-famous Hypnosis to Dream Eater combo. When Hypno comes in, set up a Substitute and start firing off Thunders. Thunder should 2-3HKO Hypno.
 
Alternatively, you can allow Zapdos to be put to sleep and switch to Articuno and Ice Beam for a 2-3HKO. However, this effectively disables Zapdos for the remainder of the fight and is generally not recommended.

This is a very odd fight. All of Nerd's Pokemon can and will spontaneously combust without any warning. To shield yourself from witnessing this horrifying experience, you're going to hide and cry behind little dolls until everything is over.
 
Lead off with Zapdos. The basic plan for this fight is to use Substitute on Nerd's first two Pokemon and then swap to an appropriate Pokemon to finish off the third. All of his Pokemon know and use Explosion/Selfdestruct.
 
If Golem is Nerd's final Pokemon, swap to Nidoking to take the oncoming Rock Slide and Horn Drill him. If Horn Drill misses, switch to Articuno and finish him with Ice Beam.

Blaine's battle can be very frustrating. There is a lot of RNG involved here so read carefully and try your best to not make mistakes.
 
Lead with Starmie. Most of Blaine's team will be 2-HKO'd by Bubblebeam. If Clefable or Kangaskhan come out, switch to Nidoking and Earthquake. Don't worry if Nidoking dies, he's just here to protect Starmie. Use Zapdos to help clean up Clefable/Kangaskhan if/when Nidoking dies. This fight is deceptively easy, so play smart.
 
Body Slam and Kangaskhan are the real killers here. If Starmie gets paralyzed, your run is probably over. Likewise, if Kangaskhan has his way with you, chances are, your run is also probably over.

This fight isn't too difficult. The battle plan here is to lead with Electrode and Thunder or Selfdestruct depending on what's out.
 
You'll want to Thunder Moltres, Golbat, and Dodrio. Moltres is a 2HKO; The latter two are 1HKOs.
 
Selfdestruct on Persian, Parasect, and Ratticate. None of these will be 1HKOd without a crit.
 
If you happen to Selfdestruct and lose Electrode, the Pokemon you want to bring in depends on what you used Selfdestruct on.
 
If you exploded on Persian or Ratticate, bring in Jolteon and revenge with Double Dragon Kicku. Otherwise, you'll want to use Articuno to deal with Parasect.
 
If Parasect comes in on Jolteon, use Pin Missile and let Parasect throw it to sleep. Swap to Articuno next turn and Ice Beam.

This fight is really silly. Every Pokemon here has Double Team and abuses whenever they can. This means that if anything gets more than 1-2 Double Teams set up on you, your run is pretty much over, so be careful.
 
Lead with Electrode. Like the previous fight, Thunder or Selfdestruct depending on what Pokemon are out.
 
For this fight, you'll want to Thunder Fearow, Kabutops, Hitmonchan, and Poliwrath and Selfdestruct on Lickitung. If Hitmonchan lives a Thunder, finish him off with Swift.
 
Swap to Nidoking against Magneton and Earthquake him. He should be 1-2HKOd. After Magneton is down, Nidoking can 2HKO Kabutops and Hitmonchan with Earthquake if they happen to swap in afterwards. Otherwise, you'll want to switch to Jolteon unless Lickitung comes in then swap to Electrode instead.
 
Jolteon 1HKOs Kabutops, Fearow, and Poliwrath with Thunder. He 2-HKOs Lickitung with a Thunder -> Double Kick combo.

Lead with Electrode. You're going to want to Selfdestruct on Zapdos, Clefable, and Pinsir. Otherwise, spam Thunder until one of aforementioned three swap in.
 
Zapdos can handle Clefable and Pinsir with Thunder. However, you'll want Articuno to deal with Zapstor. Make sure that you don't switch Articuno directly into Zapstor or things are going to go pretty poorly.
 
Zapstor in general can be quite tricky to deal with. With Articuno, Zapstor is 2HKOd by Ice Beam. he'll use either Thunder-Wave or just go straight for a Thunder against Arti. It doesn't really matter what he does as long as you don't get crit or full para.
 
With Zapdos, there are two ways to handle Zapstor. You can either set up a Substitute and then go for Thunders or you can just go straight for the Thunders. The latter option obviously being much more risky, but can help save some time if you're lucky.

The reason you swap into Jolteon is to scout for Dugtrio. If Dugtrio comes in on Jolteon, swap straight out into Articuno and Ice Beam Dugtrio. If all goes well, Dugtrio should use Dig when you swap into Articuno and then get KO'd by Ice Beam on the following turn.
 
The rest of the fight is fairly simple. Nidoqueen is 2HKO'd by Ice Beam and Psychic. Nidoking is 1HKOd by Ice Beam and 2HKOd by Psychic. Rhydon is 1HKOd by Ice Beam and 2HKOd by Ice Punch.

Notes: It's viable to use Articuno as your lead instead of Jynx. Whoever you use has certain trade-offs though. Jynx is faster than all of Bruno's team and can 1-HKO Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. Articuno can live a crit Hyper-Beam from Machamp and can 1-HKO the Ground types, while Jynx cannot.

Lead with Articuno. If Lance leads with anything but Lapras, Ice Beam. Once you see Lapras, swap out of Articuno and go into Zapdos. Lapras should hit Zapdos with a T-Bolt on the switch-in. The goal here is to have Zapdos low on HP when Dragonair comes in. This will make Dragonair use Ice Beam instead of T-Wave -> Wrap allowing you to predict Ice Beam and swap into Arti to retaliate with an Ice Beam of your own for the KO. From here on out, you should be able to take care of Lance with Thunder/Ice Beam spam.
 
Alternatively, Lance may not even have Lapras or Dragonair, or not have either of them at all. If this happens, stay in with Articuno and Ice Beam Lance's lead. His team shouldn't really be a problem. Worst case scenario, Lance doesn't have Lapras and instead has a surprise Dragonair with a Kangaskhan lead. Since Arti is usually KOd by Kangaskhan, Dragonair will get to have it's way with you. To avoid this, feel free to swap to Jolteon against Kangaskhan lead and Thunder it. Then go into Zapdos and finish him with Thunder. The rest of the battle should be fairly easy.

Strategy: This battle functions differently from the rest. You may choose to lead with whatever you want, they all function the same. Nidoking is my preference as he can immediately deal with Ninetales or Electabuzz if they happen to be in the lead spot without switching in on them. Whatever you choose, each of Rival's Pokemon are beaten by one of the Pokemon on your team with the exception of Pinsir and Clefable.
 
Electabuzz/Ninetales - Earthquake with Nidoking (Be wary of Dig.)

Notes: Rival's team is built in such a way that you cannot prepare for all of it with one lead and 2 backup Pokemon. You need to use all of your Pokemon and will most-likely be switching around a lot. This makes it the only battle in the game that may actually require some actual skill.
