AS OF V0.5, THIS GUIDE ISNT VALID ANYMORE APART FROM THE SKIPS MENTIONED.
Level 3 is arguably one of the easiest and most fun level to speedrun, and, while its original look might be intimitading for speedrunners, there is something that makes speedrunning it a breeze.
Elevators.
Now, what makes elevators in this game so special? It might be easy to miss at first glance but elevators are actually a way to sync up the music with the gameplay.
How it works is that each elevator is on a cycle, the first one in lvl 3 is on a 10 seconds timer, then closes for 3 seconds, before reopening again.Depending on how late or early you are in this cycle, the elevator will go faster or slower, meaning that there is A 10 SECONDS margin of error in the first part of lvl3.Assuming you get the first cycle possible as of May 9th 2019 (0:39-0:49), you will always enter the second part of the stage at 0:52.58 (might not be exact).
There is another elevator later in the level, and it's the same thing, assuming you get the first cycle possible (1:19-1:29), you'll always enter the final room at 1:33.
This also means that there is literally no time difference between any% and all collectibles in this level, as collecting everything does not even make you close to a cycle late.
The only place where optimization is important is the final room.Using normal strats you might get 1:45-46 but with current strat, we can get as low at 1:43 and perhaps 1:42.
So, how do we save these precious seconds?Well two techniques are used, none are really hard but they do require practice and timing.
Take the little blue arrow jump boost thing as close as possible to its left, and don't wall jump, but instead go directly on the orange jump pad ( kudos the harvie for this clip). When you grab the rope, press space as soon as possible to release it, then wall jump on the left wall directly onto the blue arrow jump boost, this trick is the hardest one, it's not that hard, but does require a good timing.(www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=109&v=fw5vUjncmm0 , see the jump at 1:49)
Those two strats will help you get 1:43-44 and possibly a 1:42)
That's all I have to say on level 3, it's not that hard once you practice it and I'm pretty sure anyone can get a 1:43. Thanks to Harvie and Ezra3 for the clips.
