The standard rules of Minecraft speedrunning also apply here

GENERAL RULES:

  • Difficulty cannot be changed once the timing starts.
  • Commands are not allowed during run.
  • World type must be default.
  • Multiple instances of Minecraft running is not allowed for singleplayer runs.
  • No snapshots, beta, alpha, or any other version of Minecraft that's not a full release.
  • You can use any version of Java. (It is known to affect seed generation in some cases).
  • Bonus Chests and cheats are not allowed.
  • You may not read or write to the world or options files outside of Minecraft in any way. Some exceptions may apply but avoid doing anything advantageous.
  • No time will be accepted without video proof. The video must not have any missing footage from creation of the world to finishing the run.
  • In-Game timing can be done with in-game timers found in 'Resources' or with manual timing. It is recommended to use an in-game timer instead of manual timing as it can be inaccurate sometimes.
  • You may wait for about 1 second of In-game time after loading the world before starting your timer. During this time you may not move, but you may pause so that the world may load. You also can not look around or change hotbar slots although third person is allowed. It is to the moderator's discretion how strongly to enforce this rule, if you are doing a run which takes advantage of night cycles, it is recommended not to wait at all. For categories timed with In-game time, you can subtract the time listed on the in-game timer when you pause initially.

RESOURCE PACKS/MOD RULES:

  • If the resource pack or mod does not grant any advantage to the player and/or doesn't change the game considerably, it may be accepted if the moderator verifying the run finds it acceptable, but because it's a subjective matter, it is greatly encouraged to not use any. OptiFine:
  • No Zoom
  • No Fast Math
  • No Clear Water
  • No Dynamic Lighting
  • No Lazy Chunk Loading
  • No Render Distance higher than the version you're playing on normally allows

More rules (will be edited to the main post):

  • Show the world being generated in your video. The extent to how much you show depends on the category. The latest point the video can start is: -- Set Seed: Either on the screen where you enter the world name, or the screen where you enter the world seed. -- Random Seed: The World Selection screen, so that the video shows you pressing "Create New World"
  • For "No Structures" runs, you may not see any Dungeons, or Nether Fortresses (1.0-1.7*), even though they generate with Generate Structures: OFF. (*Nether Fortresses generate with Generate Structures: OFF in 1.0-1.7, but not in 1.8+) Optifine:
  • No Shaders

Additionally, while these do not break the rules, doing any of the following may lead to your run being verified much later than usual:

  • Not attaching a timer to your video (either live or with video editing)
  • Giving an entire stream instead of a video of just the run.

More rules:

  • Runs must be done on Survival or Hardcore mode.

More rules:

  • Gamma must not be above 5.0.

More rules:

  • Runs must be done on Minecraft: Java Edition

More rules: On earlier versions (so far observed only in 1.1), it is possible to rotate the player view before time starts (called "pre-rotation").

Timing a run that has this happen is impossible, but rejecting runs that do this trick accidentally would be unfair. Therefore, we have decided the following:

  • Any run that does this trick accidentally will have a 0.500s penalty added to their time. Thus, long runs will not be punished by this penalty, but short runs will.
  • Any run that does this trick intentionally will be rejected.

Peaceful was originally made as a valid difficulty option, however the implicit ruling was that Peaceful would only be allowed if it did not give an advantage to the player. This ruling was later decided to not make much sense, as:

  • Very few categories actually exist where Peaceful does not give an advantage.
  • The categories where Peaceful does not give an advantage (Obtain Diamond Set Seed and Enter Nether Set Seed) do not show difficulty anyway, so it would be impossible to verify if the category used Peaceful or not.
  • Some cases were too subjective as to whether Peaceful gave an advantage or not, such as Obtain Diamond (No Structures) Random Seed (Peaceful would prevent mobs from spawning, however mobs are only a minor hindrance, possible damage boosting strats etc.)

As such, Peaceful is no longer allowed as a difficulty option. Runs that used Peaceful have now been rejected.

Terminology: IGT - In Game Time TA - Time Attack (i.e Real Time without pauses) TA without loads - Time Attack without loads (manually not timing parts of the run where loading occurs)

When filling in the IGT field for a run, refer to this guide:

All glitched categories use IGT or TA without loads (categories that have a glitchless equivalent):

  • All Bosses SS/RS
  • Kill Wither SS/RS
  • HDWGH SS/RS
  • All Wool SS/RS
  • Full Iron Armor And 15 Levels SS/RS

Short categories which are glitchless or have no glitchless equivalent should use TA without loads:

  • Elder Guardian SS/RS
  • Obtain Diamond/Emerald/Cake/Golden Apple SS/RS (With/No Structures)
  • Enter Nether SS/RS (With/No Structures)
  • All Swords SS/RS (With/No Structures)
  • All Wood Logs (1.7+) SS/RS
  • All Wool SSG/RSG
  • Full Iron Armor and 15 Levels SSG/RSG (With/No Structures)
  • All Minerals SS/RS (With/No Structures)

Medium to long categories which are glitchless or have no glitchless equivalent should use IGT or TA without loads if no S+Q/Alt+F4 was used:

  • All Bosses SSG/RSG
  • Kill Wither SSG/RSG
  • HDWGH SSG/RSG

Additionally, runs which wear the Elytra MUST be timed with TA without loads for the portion of the run that wore the Elytra, regardless if the category used S+Q/Alt+F4 or not. This means that portions of the run that do not use the Elytra can use IGT, but portions which use the Elytra must use TA without loads (done by summing the time of each "segment" where Elytra was and was not used with the respective timing method)
