I haven't checked on this stuff in ages but I just got back into attempting some runs of this game and I feel some things need to be updated in regards to the leaderboards here; the rules are out of date in regards to console commands and I'm turning auto verification on for now. I don't see any need to have to manually verify runs unless something happens that would show a need for it, which if that happens send me a DM on here (is that possible?) or in some other way report it and it'll get looked into.
I should mention the only reason I never used r_portal_use_pvs_optimization 0 when I originally could have used it is because I didn't know it existed. I don't like the cl_showpos method because looking at numbers on the screen isn't fun or really in the spirit of speedrunning; however just being able to see where you're going by changing a rendering setting that's meant as an optimization is totally fine by me.
However I still think concepts like using r_drawclipbrushes should not be allowed as it lets you see something the developers did not intend. I know that allowing some console commands and not others is always going to be arbitrary but I think what has to be kept in mind is the entertainment value for the viewer and the playability value for the runner.
What about the run by Dacciox. Someone said that what they did after the raft chapter wasn't save deleting technically, but it accomplishes the same thing. And it was also apparently exactly what ontrigger did in their runs that they saw as save deleting. Should save deleting be allowed or should the run be rejected cause it's against the rules?
I'm not sure exactly what's going on there but I'll need to look into it, I didn't go back and check over already validated runs (especially ones that were on such an old version) so I didn't see that. It's essentially skipping over half the level because you're loading in at the default spawn point (what you'd get if you used changelevel). As far as I know there's no way to do this within the confines of normal gameplay so I'll have to figure out exactly what was done.
I also wanted to determine what counts as "current" version and get that updated on peoples runs with a correct version number. As it is it doesn't describe anything specific and can be confusing if the developers choose to update the game in the future.
EDIT: By looking at the repos, it looks like the last time the game was patched to change anything besides languages was November 2019, so any runs on the latest version since then can be lumped together. Not sure if it was 3.3.3 like it is now but I'd be willing to label them that way just for consistency sake.
I think I understand the method of save deletion used at the end of tunnels3 (was able to recreate it) and if that's the case I don't think it should be allowed, at least not in current versions of the game. As much as I'd love to skip boring rafting, it requires accessing features outside of normal gameplay (i.e. naming a save file). I do think it would be interesting to have a separate category for 1.x version runs since it's such a different route anyway, and it could be allowed there. Curious for other input on this.
