[PC] How to Use a Gamepad

# Introduction
Hi all, I'm Kunic. I'm a former world record holder of the Any % full-game category for Milkman Karlson, and am currently 3rd place with several recorded runs on pace for world record until physics happened (the bane of all our existences I figure, lol).

# Why use a gamepad?

There are quite a few reasons for this:

* **Subtle Movement** - Dani configured the game to use standard Unity inputs. What does this mean for us? Well it means a joystick will work out of the gate for movement. The issue with using WASD is that you will either never be moving, or always be moving, there's no subtly. This can make moving Karlson across bridges or tight paths a bit more difficult. However, because Dani used the stock Unity inputs, we can utilize a joystick to get ramping movement based on the position of the joystick, thus making movement more precise.

* **Quicker Stage Resets** - As we don't need to use the mouse for anything but resetting stages, we can simply center it on the screen. If we need to reset it's as simple as pressing B then A on the gamepad (less than 1/10th of a second on average).

* **Stream Fluff** - It's nice to be able to include gamepad input on a stream so viewers can follow along with what you do. This is much easier to do with a gamepad than keyboard and mouse as well.

* **Preference** - As simple as that, some people don't like to play platformers with a keyboard and mouse

* **Disability** - Especially with Microsoft's adaptive controller for disabled gamers, this'll open up possibilities for people who want to speed run the game but aren't able to with a keyboard and mouse. Admittedly this is unlikely given the size of the community, but the option for them to do so is always welcome.

# Why to not use a gamepad?

Certain skips are going to be harder to pull off than with a keyboard and mouse. As stated above, a joystick will allow for more subtle movement, but sometimes you want that immediate throttle to get Karlson to crouch for a super jump. With the known skips, this really only impacts Level 6 at the moment, but could be expanded upon in the future.

# How to Configure the Gamepad

Well good news is technically the only thing the gamepad can't do out of the game is slow down time and click down the mouse to reset stages. Using a standard Xbox controller, the default mappings are as follows:

* **Left Joy-Stick** - Move

* **B** - Open Menu

* **A** - Fire your gun

* **Y** - Jump

So we're almost there. To finish the mapping, you'll want to install the previously mentioned AntiMicro program. This program lets you map keyboard and mouse inputs to gamepad buttons. Configuring this program is fairly self-explanatory and open to personal preference, but here's what I did:

* I configured the right joy-stick to move the mouse

* I configured right bumper to be left mouse down, and left bumper to be right mouse down.  This allows me to shoot like in a twin-stick shooter, and slow down time with the alternate bumper. 

* I configured A to also be left mouse down. Might seem redundant, especially as A is already mapped to Fire your gun, but I did this so I can more intuitively reset a stage by pressing B to open the menu and then A to select Reset. 

* **Optional** - I configured D-Pad UP to be my shortcut to start / split in LiveSplit

And that's all there is to it. You now have a 100% functional gamepad to play with!

All Enemies Guide Levels 0-5

This guide will tell you tips and tricks for different levels when doing the All Enemies category.

Firstly in level 0 you just do the level as usual by picking up the gun and jumping over the wall. There are only 2 enemies which a relatively easy to kill and spot.

There are no enemies in level 1.

In level 2 you crate jump or touch jump behind billy and get him to knock you into the window.

Level 3 has no enemies.

Level 4 just needs you to crouch jump to billy and get hit to launch you into the window.

Level 5 has a few enemies. First you super jump over the first wall and kill the first 2 enemies except billy. you then use billy to hit you to the enemy next to the bridge on your side of the road. you kill him and cross the bridge. Then you kill the last enemy and jump into the window.

Crouch Glitch

The crouch glitch is a glitch that allows the player to make Karlson jump much further than usual. It is useful in every level except 12 ( I'll get to that in a moment). 
The crouch glitch can be performed by moving Karlson diagonally in any direction, Karlson will bend his knees and lower himself (crouching), then as he rises up you let go of jump and are sent flying in that direction.
Many people already know of this crouch jump but, I recently found out that I knew something that some people didn't, that when you set the quality to fast and graphics to low, the crouch glitch has an INSANELY larger chance of occuring, I personally have no idea why this happens but it is useful, unless you are running level 12 in which having settings where the game looks better makes the run faster as in my testing I found that getting on the box was much easier with the higher graphics, quality and motion blur. Now obviously in a full game run you should have all low settings to make the crouch glitch happen more often. This will slow you down on 12 but the time save on the other 15 levels more than makes up for it.

Tips and Tricks

Here i will try to list some nice tips and tricks that you can use in your runs.


Strafe walking:
 First up ,walking diagonal is faster ! By switching around the direction you avoid falling over.

Tyre boost : 
Simply release jump right when you first touch a tyre. It will give you the normal jump + the tyre jump. You may need a few trys before knowing when to release.

Crouch jump / crouch boost :
You can get a big jump boost by releasing jump on the moment the player goes up after a crouch.

Crouch: 
By walking diagonal the player sometimes "crouches" . This can also be done in other ways as the physics are pretty random. You can start with a strong crouch on almost every level by instantly walking diagonal at the start of the level . It can be verry tricky to time it.

Billy's Explosions : 
There are many little billys waiting to blow up in many levels. You can use those explosions to get insane air speed and skip many parts of a level. You either shoot it when close or it detonates it self when you touch it.

Gun Recoil: 
You can use the recoil of the guns to get a bit more distance while in air. Timing is key tho , it could backfire and slow you down. Sometimes the jump rotation also makes it impossible to boost your self with recoil.

Boulder or other falling objects: 
By jumping at the right time or hitting an object in the right way you can get flung away or pushed . This is sometimes better or faster then just jumping.

Slowmotion clip: If you activate slowmotion right b4 an thinn obstacle you can clip said object.  (This sometimes also happens without slowmotion but ist consistent with this method.)

Btw u cant see the slowmode effect cause i had it on fast graphics.
