Updates to NMG and Glitchless

After much discussion, we have come to a conclusion for the rule definitions of NMG. They are as follows:

"Any glitch that allows Samus to move entirely into collision is disallowed. You can easily check what is considered an OoB collision by seeing if it's possible for Samus to die in it.

This includes the following glitches:

 • Shine Sink
 • Camera Lock
 • Slope Clip
 • Ledge Climb Clip
 • Reverse Magnet
 • Grappling magnets through walls

Instances of collision updating, failing to update, or respawning do not invalidate a glitch. It is possible to die with Pseudo-Waves and Ledge Warps this way, but they do not allow you to directly clip out of bounds.

In addition, any glitch that results in Samus's rotation suffering a lasting displacement is disallowed. This includes:

 • Axis Skew
 • Upside-Down Samus"

This ruleset can easily be updated in the future if new clauses are needed. The immediate repercussions of this are that Short Boost and Ledge Warp are now allowed in NMG.

One of the main concerns with allowing Short Boost was maintaining the spirit of NMG as an "intro" category. After discussions with the community and amongst staff, it is clear that Water Space Jump is not a glitch, but instead an intended mechanic that can be exploited. As a result, WSJ will now be allowed in all glitchless categories.

This seems like a drastic change, but it only affects one category: Any% Glitchless. As a result, its route becomes quite similar to pre-Short Boost NMG, maintaining that route for those who want to run it. With that said, we'll be adding Any% Glitchless officially to the boards, along with 100% Glitchless!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussions for these decisions! Your feedback is extremely valuable and we look forward to any feedback you’ll have moving forward.

One last bit of news before we wrap up this post; Category extensions are coming. We’re actively looking into getting them added ASAP and will update once we have a reliable timeline to share.

Very nice. just one question, why are there only the standard and Dread category? Why not include Hard?
Very nice. just one question, why are there only the standard and Dread category? Why not include Hard?
I'm not sure why you're responding to an unrelated 2 month old post, but Standard refers to all non-Dread mode difficulties. Hard runs are submitted as Standard. The difficulty categories were merged like this months ago because they are extremely similar overall and were unpopular when split.

I thought this didn't need a new thread. thanks for the answer.
