Adding Coop for Arcade

Yelsraek, is there a chance to put coop for Arcade in Normal Beginning and Normal Floor 33? Prolly the main goal for coop still comes along by getting 1 CC and/or continuing.

Is there a specific reason for the 1CC requirement? Seems like it cuts down on the number of people wanting to run this game (myself included)

Ellimist, are you asking about Arcade in general or for Co-op specifically?

In general I suppose. I am a co-op player and the 1CC requirement definitely turns me away with my arcade friend, but I am sure its the same for various 1P runners too.

Magic Sword has always been known as a difficult game, so I believe the 1CC is meant to reflect that.

That being saidm 1CC really isn't that bad, especially if you know where the health items are.

Keep in mind that 1CC arcade begins with 3 health bars. MAME emulator starts you at 1 health bar so you'll want to increase this to 3 if you are playing on MAME. Reason being, the arcade version on Xbox starts with 3 health bars, and they have no way of changing it.

It feels great just finishing a 1CC run. I think you'll grow to love it.

All arcade versions except Xbox start with 1 health point. Have you ever played arcade games? Because administrators don't really understand this game, there are rule loopholes. People who truly love this game won't make such boring records~

Hi folks! The Arcade categories that are currently available were based upon the community vibe at the time. If that vibe has changed, then the categories should definitely change, too.

You are right that I don't have a thorough understanding of the Arcade game and its dipswitches/settings. Happy to establish categories that are fair and inclusive for a variety of settings so that the game is more approachable for new runners and also so the rules make sense for experienced ones.

Please provide suggestions for rule changes!

I have an idea putting sub-categories and/or variables in Arcade...

1 sub category or variable - (1 health bar)

and...

1 sub category or variable - (3 health bar)

Ellimist did mention the chance of playthrough in Any% in Solo and Coop, which could be fair since also in SNES you can use continues (limited in SNES) in some runs, so "continues" are a possibility to be put in the leaderboard as sub-categories or set as variable for Arcade. The Any% definitely could attract more new runners, some of them could aim for eventually 1cc in the future, whether solo or coop.

In relation to Difficulty, the difficulty in runs can be still in Normal, even in Any%, but it could be open up for variation as this: Easy - Normal - Hardest. (obviously set as variables).

  • ROMSet: MSword Unused: Off Players vitality consumption: 4 [Normal] Enemy's vitality and attacking power: 4 [Normal] Stage Select: On Vitality Packs: 2 Free Play: Off Freeze: Off Flip Screen: Off Allow Continue: No Game Mode: GameSpecial Rules: This is a Single Player ONLY Variation! You may freely choose your starting level. Continues are NOT allowed!

Players vitality consumption: 8 [Hardest] Enemy's vitality and attacking power: 8 [Hardest]

This is the standard setting for normal difficulty and difficult difficultyThe official default is like this~

Of course, there are no simple or difficult difficulty settings in arcade games. If there are no restrictions, then set the difficulty to EASY. In fact, there is no difference between 4 health and EASY
