Quick Reference for Missions: https://yodastories.tumblr.com/missions *This isn’t a perfect guide but can be very helpful to get a basic understanding of the end of mission puzzles.

Game Settings: Combat Difficulty: Easy Game Speed: Fast World Control: Small

Movement/Mechanics: The best way we currently know to move is to hold down left click and move the desired direction. When going through a tunnel sometimes you will need to let go of left click to go through.

Guide:

In this guide I won’t be breaking down specific items or puzzles for a mission. This is simply an overarching strategy guide to get you started speedrunning with decent times.

Yoda Stories has 2 interesting aspects. 1st: It’s a randomizer every mission. 2nd: You can follow the same pattern every single run.

Each mission has a formula for completion.

1st: Obtain the Locator. 2nd: Locate all Puzzle tiles. 3rd: Complete the missions end Puzzle.

Yoda Stories has 15 unique missions. 5 Desert Planets, 5 Ice Planets, 5 Forest Planets.

Once you load into the game and are on Dagobah you will need to find Master Yoda. Dagobah consists of 4 main tiles. You start on the bottom left tile. Once you find Yoda, talk to him (time starts right as you talk to him). He will give you a unique dialogue. There are 15 dialogues, 1 for each mission. (You can use this to farm for a specific mission) Along with the dialogue you will also get 1 free random item. Head back to your X-Wing.

Locator: Once on the new planet your first goal is to find the Locator. This game is laid out on a grid. The Locator is within 1 tile (including diagonal) from the starting location. To receive the locator you must solve the puzzle on the tile it is located in. Go in a circle around the starting tile until you find it.

When you click on the Locator from your items menu you will notice different tiles. 1 tile will have a circle (starting tile) have a puzzle piece. When you complete a puzzle it will fill in the puzzle piece. You can also click on unsolved puzzle tiles to see what item you need or what action needs to be completed. some tiles will be a tall rectangle, when you solve this tiles puzzle you unlock an unattached part of the map that you can travel to. Some tiles will have a thick line on the side of it. These tiles are like gates. Solve the puzzle to go to the tiles behind it. 1 tile will have a star on it. This is the end puzzle tile. You want to go to this tile Last. Complete all puzzles before going there.

*You will also be able to notice which tiles you can go to based on the color background.

How to use the locator to increase your speed. Imagine a perfect run. You land on the starting planet. Everytime you go to a new tile it is the correct order of puzzles to get all the items before going to the end puzzle tile. Solve the end puzzle within 1-2 minutes. Though this would be an incredible run it’s not very likely. With the locator we can try to emulate this line of thinking.

There are two types of tiles in this game. Those you want to go to, and those you don’t. Blank tiles have no purpose for the mission. So right as you get the locator open up the map and plan a route out. Always be thinking “If I don’t go there now, will I have to cross back over tiles later?” If I’m next to unexplored tiles obviously I want to explore those before going across the map.

Now that we know the route we can go in short bursts of exploration and checking. I personally go into 2 tiles and check the locator. If a previous tile was a puzzle I go back and solve it. Then continue on the route. Follow this pattern until you have solved all puzzles and explored the entire map (not required to explore everything, but because this is a randomized game you never know if you missed something important).

*note that many of the tiles will repeat based on missions/planets. So if you know the layout of a tile there is no need to check your locator to double check.

Puzzles: The amount of puzzle tiles can vary. I’ve seen anywhere between 6-9 puzzle tiles. This would be another thing you farm for if you want extremely optimized runs. When solving puzzles you will obtain items. Many puzzles are trading 1 item for another. So you may get 1 item from a crashed ship, and then trade it for a key card to get into an imperial base which is on another tile. Be sure to keep track mentally of what items you have, and are looking for. You will need to retrace steps to complete puzzles.

Final Thoughts: Most of the time saves come from pathing and knowledge about puzzles. If you are going back and forth constantly you will be very slow. My basic path is 2 counter clockwise laps. The 1st one is to find the Locator. The 2nd is to complete puzzles.

There are dozens of puzzles in this game. The only way you can really go fast is if you know the puzzles (or at least most of them) before the run starts. You figure out the puzzles by playing through the game and reusing the knowledge in a later run. And always feel welcome to ask questions about a puzzle.

You can also save the game and send the save file to someone else to try out. Can be helpful if you get stuck.
