I was attempting to shed light on the inactive mods not push the one active mod to leave. I hope this thread wasn't a contributing factor in your decision. I understand every mod has a life outside of this site. I hope that everyone knows that mods are volunteering their precious time to this community. I truly appreciate everything that you and all of the current and past mods have done up to this point.
I think the inactive mods should step down and active players should take their place.
While it says we have five mods, I believe only one of them is actively approving most all recent runs. I just checked a whole bunch of runs on the current 1.0.1 boards and I see around 30 approved by Switchblade and 1 approved by Math. I'm certain I missed some as there are lots of filters. Also, I don't want to disparage any previous contributions from those other three mods. However, I think it's safe to say this game needs more active mods right now.
I had a group message going with all five mods over a month ago on the topic of splitting the boards by deck. During that conversation Switchblade spoke about the constant backlog of runs that need verification. So at the very least, the mods are aware of an issue. I volunteered myself to mod for the game and I was denied.
I think one month for verification is a little on the high side with five mods. I believe four of those five mods are only moderating this game. Ironically, Switchblade is moderating multiple games. I want to stress that I am not trying to be rude, I'm just calling it how I see it. If there are any active players reading this thread, please volunteer yourself.
At this point I've heard back from three of the five mods. All three seem to think it's a decent idea and none of them are outright against it. The last two mods only mod for Balatro so it's not like they are super busy modding other games. Baboon hasn't made a mod action on here in two months. Gloomy hasn't made a mod action on here in three months.
At this point I believe I have heard from all active mods and none of them have given any reason to not do this. I'm not really sure how to move forward in making this happen. I think I will message the group chat and offer my services to mod for the game and add these subcategories to the boards. Maybe they just don't feel like doing it in which case I will gladly make it happen.
Six days ago I started a group message with all five mods where I outlined my desire for it to be split. I told them multiple reasons why it should be split, informed them that multiple people on the boards want it split, and pointed out the ridiculousness of having some categories that are never ran while denying what people are asking for. So far two of the five have responded and they both agree that it's a good idea and are not opposed to it.
In an older conversation I had with Zedru, one of the mods, they said that the general consensus is that boards be split by playstyle and difficulty, not deck. One of my many arguments is that plasma has a unique playstyle compared to all the other decks. 14 of the 15 decks play similarly to each other. Then you have plasma that plays differently. That one oddball deck being the only viable option when speedrunning is, in my opinion, a problem. As someone who doesn't enjoy the repeat runs until you find stuntman aspect of plasma in random seed, I think it's clear the mods should add deck subcategories. Keep an any deck or all decks default category so the plasma lovers can still show off that it's the fastest overall. This idea has been laid out for the mods in my group message, just waiting for responses from the last three.
Congrats. If you submit that you'll be the only non-plasma on the boards. Also, if you submit a plasma that is faster your Anaglyph run goes obsolete. Which is exactly why I want to split it by deck. So that every deck can get some love.
I also want a category for every deck. I even reached out to a mod about it. They said they want it too but most mods don't. So, what is the argument against it? Cause random seed white stake 1.0 has 22 runs all of which use Plasma. Boring braindead gameplay plasma. Keep an all decks category so the try hards can still say they reign supreme and then add a category for every deck so that people like me can play what deck they like and actually feel like they can get a time worth submitting to the leaderboards.
I even started to do one submission for each deck on random seed orange and gold. I asked a mod if multiple runs would show on the board since they would be different decks. I did it cause the mod said "since one player can be on the board 15 times for 15 different decks." That's not the case, though. All but the fastest was marked obsolete.
