If the patch is easily reverted through Switch settings then we can all just run on the same patch. If the patch is not easily reverted (without hacks) then the only option is to archive the leaderboard and start over. It sucks but it is literally the only option.
Nothing demotivates competition more than realizing that you can never compete with people who have a blatant advantage over you. Whether or not they are separate categories is irrelevant when they will be compared against each other anyway. Those of you who say they are part of the game or that speedrunning has "always been that way" are going about this the wrong way. There's time to make a change and that time is now.
oh whoops I mean...Haha Amiibos LUL Kappa
We have re-initiated verification, but will keep this rule in place. It was pretty dumb of us to add a weird rule and then not enforce it.
IL runs that claim to be first place now REQUIRE video evidence of the attempt. Runs that do not claim to have a 1st place time will still be allowed to submit screenshots.
Runs submitted before today, August 10th 2017, will NOT have their runs invalidated. However, all runs from now on that beat the first place time by a full second or greater will require video proof. If the first place time already has video proof, you must submit video proof if you claim to tie that time.
We assume that runs currently on the leaderboard are legal, and reproducible. If there is any dispute on the validity of a screenshotted run, contact a moderator. If your run is investigated you may be asked to reproduce your run with video evidence. This is not meant to target individual runners, it is simply a safety precaution to make sure the runs are competitive and legitimate.
Thank you.
Alright I'm quickly learning that this skip is really really hard. Charle is the best speedgame of all time
The first and third ones are pretty easy. I think the second one is insanely difficult, and it might just be worth it to do the vine balls on level 2 unless you're insanely consistent.
Yo dude! That sounds amazing. As far as the mod is accessible to everyone and still runs on original software it will not be a problem. Wii's for example are softmodded to play JP versions of sms or Galaxy. If, however, the version used in cafiine is a rom or 'usb loader' type game then it will not be allowed. That's all I have to say here, I'll hit you up in discord for more details and get into it after SGDQ.
For set up #2, that's not how seeds work. Higher seeds always play lower seeds. If there are 32 people in the tourney, the #1 seed will face #32 seed, #2 seed will face #31 seed, and so on. It doesn't make sense to match two people with 1:18s in the first round because one of them would be sent to losers even though they're miles ahead of most of the competition. It should also be a double E tournament, it makes it so the better players stay in winners fairly because they deserve to, and the worse players will fall to losers early, but will then face people of their skill level.
When I play the game it feels like I sort of skim over the pipes one by one, and ignore everything that goes on except for the target route. For example, as the pipe rides up, I look at the left pipe, and then as soon as I see a cross-pipe, I look at the second pipe. Then I look for the next cross-pipe, and shift to the next one. It's all about minimizing the amount of things your eyes process. If you cut it up into fast chunks of "this pipe to this pipe to this pipe" It would be much easier than looking at every pipe at once and seeing many different cross pipes.
Can we still use RLG and other lap skips in the all cups category? The only runs submitted so far have been glitchless runs. Are there plans to separate categories?
Oh, I see why you're confused. There's two versions of "delay fist" depending on the situation.
One kind of delay fist is the one everyone should know, which is slowing the SECOND fist of a cycle down in order to push octavio back farther and get a skip. If you don't know what I mean by this, watch how I get the delay fist skip in phase 2 of any%, as it is very clear what I'm doing and how it works.
The other kind is normal delay fist, which is just a minor time save on fist cycles that are NOT meant to be used for a delay fist skip. Normal delay fist is just delaying the FIRST fist of a fist cycle, that way the second fist comes out directly in front of you. If you hit the first fist of a normal fist cycle quickly, Octavio gets knocked back before the second fist comes out and the second fist has to travel a longer distance.
In my DJ IL I did not "risk delay fist" on the last parts of phase 5 because they were normal delay fists. I didn't want to risk delaying the first fist too much (since NG+ they move faster) and having it hit the floor. I was having a good run of the IL and I'd rather take a couple seconds time loss than add a whole cycle if I missed.
It's all on you to decide when to reset. Usually the rule is if you absolutely run out of time to save, and you're so far behind that the +time can't be made up, then you reset, but sometimes, and I've seen this happen, if you don't reset you can end up pushing yourself to finish with a small PB, which is better than nothing.
Don't fret, I've had consistency issues there too. Just copy what I do in wr and you'll be fine.
Whether or not this post is a joke, I feel like I should say something about this. This website never has and never will recognize speedruns from the online mode. The "account to A+, level 10, S, etc." are NOT something I want the actual speedrun of this game associated with. FLC and other streamers who do these online account speedruns are aware that they are not official runs, rather a stream stunt to show online skill and make things interesting.
People already associate this speedgame with blind runs of Super Mario Maker, because they don't know the difference between playing online rain maker and playing the single player. This game is by no means a meme game, and I want to keep it that way. Sorry, but 8 hours of RNG team mates playing 2 game modes is not a very fun or competitive speedrun, at least that's how I, and many other runners of this game feel.
For some reason NA text is different than EU text even though it's the same language. When language was tested way back when, it was done in Europe, so we just accepted that Spanish was faster. Unfortunately NA Spanish was different than EU Spanish, and we never did the testing ourselves. It also turns out that PAL Spanish is 10 seconds faster than NTSC English. Also keep in mind that French is slower everywhere. Here is a spreadsheet with my testing, as well as instructions for how I measured text for each cutscene.
Some videos have capture card delay. The timer doesn't start nor end at the exact right spots. With these videos, the timer starts early, but also ends early, so usually it evens out. Like I said, I verify the times on my own timer, and edit for any discrepancies. I've never edited more than half a second, all of the IL times are fairly accurate.
As for the "6 second head start" like I said before, it's almost impossible to split exactly when you grab the zapfish while you're playing the level. Breakdancinggamer decided to start the timer at -6.04 because that is how much time is between grabbing the zapfish and screen black out. (It's not perfectly exact, but it does the job.) This way when he splits on the blackout (as most people do in actual runs) the time shown on the timer is the correct IL split.
I would like to assure you that I am taking the ILs seriously. Even when Jebuskiller submitted the 20 ILs in a row I verified their time, even though I literally saw them happen live and had no reason to doubt the times. I retime them to the best of my ability, usually just to make sure that they are not an obscene amount of time ahead, but occasionally I edit the time to make it more accurate.
That's in NG+ only. Any% has rapid fire glitch to push him back fast.
Also update for new Octavio strats, my Octavio split (in any%) is now 7:55.
IL starts when you press ZL to enter a level, and ends the second you grab the zapfish and yell woomy. People who split after the zapfish grab subtract the time in between the split and when you grab the zapfish. Its to make it easier because it's hard to split exactly when you grab. For example splitting on music cue is about 3.7 seconds, and splitting on fade out is about 6.1 seconds. It doesn't really matter because I confirm the times upon submission anyway.
