I have used mame as the emulator for my own run. About livesplit, I actually do manual splitting while playing but I guess it is fine if you add it after the run.

Most players run using KBM but there are several who use controller or a mix of both. The best controller runner is Lucidus. She is extremely good and can definitely compete at the highest level.

That being said, it is generally accepted that KBM has a few advantages over controller and barely no disadvantages, apart from probably swimming.

Nonetheless I would say go for what you feel more comfortable with. If you don't have a preference then go for KBM.
