I did a practice All Items run, and I could only find one place where the strat saves time. It was at the area to the left of level 1 after you have all the powerups and you've collected all the items in the level. I quit from there and continue, get the items from the start and move up to complete level 2 then finish the game from there. That's the only place I could find where you move the least amount of screens by using the strat.
Thanks for catching that, my brain was spaghetti this morning so it didn't even occur to me it was off by a minute.
One more thing; after looking through old forum posts, I realized I completely forgot DDRKirby added a quit function using left shift + right shift + Q. So that could be used rather than refreshing the page to restart faster.
In addition to that, I've changed the main game rules due to the fact that there is now about a minute difference between in-game and real time with this strat. From now on real time should be timed separately from in-game time.
As an added note, I noticed how much of a difference there is between the real time and in-game time, so I decided to go ahead and add the Refresh Strat as a variable. If you guys would rather it be another subcategory, I'd be perfectly fine with changing it.
First of all, good job to whoever came up with the idea to refresh the page. I never would have thought to do that.
I'm on the fence about making another subcategory or variable for quitting and loading. Perhaps we could call it Refresh Strat? On one hand, its not a bad idea because it does change the route slightly, but on the other hand I'm not sure if its entirely necessary, especially since it's just us on the leaderboards.
I actually wanted to make subcategories for Normal Mode and Furball mode, but I couldn't figure out how to do it for the longest time. I'm actually setting that up right now, now that the website has changed its look and the edit pages are a lot more user friendly.
I'm not sure if that option didn't exist or I just didn't see it when I created this, but yes. I've changed it.
I thought about adding IL leaderboards, but I wasn't sure how that would be run. For allowing shapeshifts, I could include a NG/NG+ category, but I'm still not sure how runs should be handled. Because for the NG run, you would still have collect the necessary shapeshifts to do the levels, and since it's such a short game anyway, I figured you might as well do the full game at that point. And if you do NG+, you'd probably already have all the shapeshifts and items anyway, so there wouldn't be anything to really do. Even if you didn't collect all the items, you might have still collected some of them, so I can't think of what a genuine IL run would look like. There needs to be a specific goal in mind, and I just can't see one with ILs. That's just my opinion, but I'm open to suggestions.
Thank you DDRKirby for coming on and giving us all this input, and thank you to everyone else for contributing all this information. I'm sorry I haven't been as active as I probably should be, but I'll do my best to keep the leaderboard up-to-date. The new features seem really nice. I can imagine that new quit feature could be useful in at least one part of the route.
Hey guys, the game dev is asking if there's any other quality of life improvements or other changes you'd be interested in him trying to make while he's working on the bug? No guarantees for anything, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
The game dev has responded. He's gonna push an update soon, so this strategy will not be valid for any category. But please keep the video up so he can analyze it and figure out how to fix it.
Sorry I didn't see this until now. Haven't checked in here in a while. I used to have a separate category specifically for this glitch, but I removed the category because the game developer got in contact with me and said that it wasn't intended. The glitch was then fixed in the following update, which I think is the current version if I remember correctly. If the glitch has resurfaced I'm going to try and get in contact with him again about it. For now I'm not gonna reject or approve the run until I know for sure it's okay.
For anyone who's followed all the steps but still can't get it to work, I've found that the video extension will prevent this from working at all if it's included in your layout.
Are you asking about the timer called Livesplit? If so, you just run it on your computer and split with your keyboard.
Is there any confirmation on what time the sprashfecta will start?
For future reference, would it be better if I asked for permission/verification to submit a guide in the forums?
Thanks, I'm gonna try that.
I'm trying to practice entering Sheila's area and my game crashes seemingly depending on how I enter the portal. Does this happen to anyone else, and if so, does anyone know why or how it happens?
