Unfortunately, the big wall is solid, so the turning head method just gets you stuck from what I've tried. There is a way to get underneath the gate while on top of the ceilings of the lower rooms, but you'd still have to find a way to move upwards.
Speaking of our talk on Fesenkov, I have found a way to get out of bounds. Not much progress on skipping the gate, but it could lead somewhere. It also might not save much time if this method is used, but I haven't timed that yet either.
It's a fairly tedious process as well.
The main thing I start with is looking for areas of the run we haven't done much with like Fesenkov or the space station for example.
Then I think about the end goal for the map or section of the map. So in Fesenkov, the end goal might be interacting with the chair or ladder in the rocket, but there can be subgoals like getting through the gate to get to the rocket elevator.
Some goals are just not possible until you do something else like the "Activate Monorail" button in Reinhold only appears after you align both towers. However, the rocket elevator in Fesenkov likely doesn't rely on anything other than being in reach of the button. If we could clip through the gate, then we could probably get directly to the rocket without needing to complete the long process of opening it. So I try to find goals that require the least amount of workarounds and have that biggest payout. I'm sure there are also a ton of smaller time saves in the run that aren't as hard to find, and those are important as well because they build up throughout the run.
Then it's just a matter of using either the glitches we already know, or playing around with things in unusual ways until you get somewhere. Maybe we should have a spreadsheet of all known glitches/skips in here as well (even the ones we haven't used in the run).
Sometimes I will be spam grabbing an object or ramming the rover into random places or jumping into a wall for 2 hours straight with no results, but it is very statisfying when something happens.
It's probably also useful to know common game developement mistakes, or even better, having the source code for the game to potentially find some loopholes in the logic. That's another tedious process in itself, but I wouldn't be opposed to someone trying it out.
Anyways, I would love to see more people routing the game or finding game-changing glitches, so have at it.
Hello everyone! I forgot to post this, but here is a new skip I found recently for the elevator at the end of Reinhold. It saves about 10 seconds, maybe more if you're quick. I also found that you can do sleepys with the ASE by touching the ASE to the screen, but I'm not sure if that's helpful anywhere else in the run.
Different route: This route is slower, but I believe it is more consistent and supposedly doesn't require as high of a framerate.
Wow that is some massive stuff right there. I started laughing hysterically when you started literally running sideways after respawning. With some more routing I'm sure we could skip even more, potentially even into the broken monorail room. I'll have to test this all when I'm not busy. Fart skip incoming.
I sped up the video by 1.3x because I talk insufferably slow.
0:26 Fast but very inconsistent backup
1:30 Slower but slightly more consistent backup
3:10 Wacky insaneo style backup that could potentially lead to huge skip (still kinda slow as a backup tho, but the launch is very consistent)
4:30 Getting out of bounds with wacky skip. It's definitely way less than 20% of the time, I spent like 20 mins after this tryna get it and I couldn't. Theres a specific range that not too close and not too far that you have to be in.
6:51 Fall damage explanation
7:45 Infinite Oxygen ?
Oh wow, I never even noticed that ledge there! I actually have been testing for some backups for Tombaugh recently and I'll try to upload a video later of some things I found. This one seems the most consistent however. Good find!
Oh and for Rheinhold, you can trigger the cutscene by alt tabbing and pressing the button. It's much less convenient than the pause glitch, and you might have to resize your window to get to the button, but it works. Unfortunately, the cutscene that plays with Sarah is much longer than the cutscene of the tower falling down, so you get into the low oxygen part while the cutscene is still playing and it just reloads to the oxygen part when you die.
Also, the reason I don't believe Copernicus actually saves that much time is because you waste 9 seconds just waiting to press the button outside of the tower, but you save around 13-15 seconds from not having to go into the station, so all in all it's around 4-6 seconds. The cutscene and the panning back to the player thing still plays in both scenarios, so that time stays the same.
Oh yeah I tested it for Rheinhold and it's really unfortunate that you die in the middle of the cutscene. The only way I can think to fix that is to either find a blind setup for getting the oxygen, figure out how to see while in the cutscene, or find a way to trigger the cutscene earlier.
Of course right after eewalktub posts a whole run tutorial I find something. Here is a slight update to the pause click glitch. You can instead hover over the button in the pause screen and unpause and the game will believe you are still in the screen while still being about to move around. It comes with some downfalls that prevent it from saving even more time. This video shows you how to do it and theres a few clips to show where it is useful. There may be others that I haven't thought of, but most of the other places I've tried either are very glitchy or don't really end up saving time.
The Copernicus clips might seem kinda confusing, but basically you just spam space and wait for the cutscene to play because you can't get into the vehicle until after.
From the clips I've posted, I believe it's around 15 seconds of total time save
Another thing to note is that if you end up accidentally clicking out of the screen, the button will still be lit, so the only way to press the button is to do the glitch the normal way or to actually interact with the screen (so DO NOT CLICK OR PAUSE while doing this glitch).
I appreciate it! My Tombaugh was absolutely amazing to be honest. I usually mess up at least one trick in Tombaugh while practicing, but it went super smoothly here. Sub 1:10 is definitely possible with even more polishing and even more so if we find a way to recreate that cutscene skip.
Heres another glitch I found today. You can click on screens while in the pause menu from afar. This could potentially be very useful as you can also click on screens during cutscenes, but I haven't found any yet that will save much time because either the screen is behind the menu, or the cutscene isn't long enough to click through each button.
I have also tried clicking through objects, but that doesn't seem to work, so I believe you have to have direct line-of-sight with the screen for this to work.
Update: You can also click on screens without pausing by click while in alt-tab. This was almost really huge in Reinhold, however, you get stuck watching the cutscene while you quickly lose all of your oxygen and it reloads.
Another area:
Oh this is great, I hate that room as well. Reloading with hostile ASE's in the area is wack, but I'd rather not die to RNG like usual.
I have found another skip in Tombaugh (wow what an area). This is right after the second big skip with the battery in the MPT reactor room.
Correction: I believe the pulsing actually starts at the top of the stairs, not the bottom.
Oh this is awesome! I was trying to do something like this the other day, but I didn't try that ledge right there. I thought the jump was pretty consistent after doing it a few times in a row, but now I'm missing it quite often. If you do miss it, it would probably just be better to keep going without the skip because that cutscene is excruciating.
Heres my small adjustment to the skip where you can actually go directly to the end:
(Video might be laggy for some reason)
All in all, this saves about 30 seconds. Pretty good stuff, thank you for this contribution!
I might spend some time finding a backup that doesn't lose you 30 seconds or a more consistent way of getting that jump.
Over the past few days I have discovered a few new skips, two of which save roughly a minute and half each. I also discovered a glitch with the moveable objects. I've linked some videos with some explanation, so have at it. (Names can be under discussion, I just randomly named them)
Movable object glitch explanation: Saves about 90s:
Saves about 80-90s:
Saves about 15s:
Saves about 7-10s:
