Are there any more rules? whats your opinion on emulators? are they allow if so i take it there in a separate category if there banned fair enough i think 1964 is the only emulator that can emulate it at all

Emulators: I'm not as active on TGO, however, I do check in once in a while to see if anybody has posted any new runs on the leaderboards, or any new messages on the forum page. I will say, for now, Console runs are the only accepted form of run attempts on this game as of now. I haven't checked on any emulator that makes the game run well or not well, and the same thing goes for 1964.

Other game rules: No other rules are specified as of this time. For now, runners are expected to run Any% or the equivalent fastest known route for now. If more runners approach and feel the need that I may need to include more categories, then I will do so.

i did a run of the game and beat the WR by about 1:30 minutes, the timer says 1:19:30, but thats cause emulator saves 1:05-1:15 over n64, i'd say since its fairly precise to figure out how much it saves it should be accepted, PJ64 2.3 is the only emulator that emulates this game well afaik, but honestly it does fine for me, it emulates the game almost perfectly and there arent any huge disadvantages/advantages. Alternatively there could be a seperate leaderboard for EMU runs like the sm64 leaderboards. I beat the game not touching any of the emulator settings. Will upload to youtube first. The current run i did is still really bad for my standarts tho, i can still beat it by at least 1:30 minutes cause i messed up a cash glitch at the beginning. (despite this i still managed to beat the record by 1:30 minutes just from good driving alone) But yea it'd be nice if i could submit this run because the driving in my run is way better than the currently submitted runs. (played this game a LOT when i was younger)

Also figured this will probably need a seperate category for any% no shortcuts, it will probably be the most relevant category aside of any%. sort of like skips and no skips in mario kart 64, altho imo cashglitch should still be allowed because it does make the game a lot more fun to run imo. in that case it would function pretty close to the main cateogories like in mario kart 64.

also would make a lot of sence to have a third categories called glitchless as that would cover the run with no cashglitch/no skips

I've added the following categories:

  1. Any% No Shortcuts = Same as Any% except not using the in-game shortcuts the game provides.

  2. Any% No Cash Glitch = Same as Any%, Shortcuts are allowed, and Cash Glitch is Banned.

was thinking about this for a bit now and i think this makes the most sence:

any% any% no skips (cashglitch allowed) any% glitchless (no skips no cashglitch)

100% 100% no skips (cashglitch allowed) any% glitchless (no skips no cashglitch)

the only other potential categories i could theoretically think of are 100% no cashglitch but skips allowed and the same for any% but i feel like those would be sort of weird idk. maybe later if someone requests it.

With skips i meant stuff like fyling over the map and lets say respawning on the other side of the map saving half a lap or something. (cash glitch being a "skip" aswell as you just save a crapload of time and that is considered a skip in speedrunning, you "skip having to farm money" i suppose) Skips like this exist in the game (although i havent practiced any of them) but they will certainly play a HUGE role once someone has seriously picked this game up for a while.

Shortcuts should always be allowed IMO since they are intended anyways and dont really need seperate categories. Another category that seems obvious to have is the 100% category which in this game would mean to unlock every car in the game at the end. i guess it'd be an extra season run making it about 15-20 mins longer than any%. (15 if youre fast) so this would guarantee a very interesting addition as you would also get to ride the secret cars in a speedrun.

So 6 main categories. These are probably the main categories that make the most sence i think.

Glitchless in this game makes a lot of sence because the only glitches in the game are massive skips. As the Glitchless categories are always a little bit "stretchable" as we all know, little skips that save like 1-2 seconds even in "glitchless" are probably accepted if they happen, its just all about not doing any big 5+ second skips.

Unfortunately of course if you accidentally skip a part of the map your run would automatically fall into the skips categories and there probably gonna be some glitchless runs ruined by this later, but thats just the nature of the game. (ive rarely had these things happen on accident) Unless of course if you restart the respective race.

just got a 1:16 LETS GO. 1:15 is gonna be hard actually without skips, so ill focus on those now i suppose. 1:16:41, would be like a ~1:17:50 on n64

sum of best is 1:13:58, but at least 50 seconds or so come from buying nitrous obviously making it way lower than it should be, really i think ive been almost within like 2 minutes of my SOB, which means that this run was actually pretty solid. (yes i only did 4 runs, but based on the lap times and igt i can tell there isnt a crazy amount of room for improvement when it comes to driving) might sound weird after just 19 attempts but you have to keep in mind that this game only consists of like 7 stages that are like 30 seconds long, so youre really just driving through the same 2:10 minutes in a run since i ts just laps and seasons ect. ect. having driven those so much makes it possible to get a good run pretty fast depsite being new to the game. a good run without skips and with cash glitch would probably be like a ~1:15:30 on n64. Getting a time below 1:14 with cash glitch but without skips may be near impossibly difficult on n64. I think i had around 60 explosions this run, which is really good, my previous run was more like 90 or so(which was still really good). But yea in a speedrun situation 50 explosions or less is probably really hard to get. (yea imagine 1 death per map with a mclaren that goes 0-60 in like 0.3 of a second basically driving 213 mp/h constantly in a cramped map and bots driving perfectly in the middle of the road killing you instanly if you crash into them)

Edit: buying nitrous actually is still somewhat irrelevant for sum of best now that i think about it. Its just not gonna take the nitrous buying into account at all and that is only around 20-30 secs of time difference i think. So actually my sum of best is probably around 1:14:28 or something, but i actually think it wont go THAT much lower in future runs. (that is if for runs without skips)
