Load Times Comparison Video

Final Times:

PS2 (Console) - 11:24

PS2 (Emu) - 9:49

Wii (Console) - 13:41

Switch (Console) - 4:14

PSP (Emulator) - 6:23

Some notes about this video:

  • The video starts at the first frame after selecting to begin the game for all platforms and hardware.
  • PS2 Emulator used was PCSX2 V 1.6.0. PSP Emulator used was PPSSPP V 1.12.3.
  • The video ends at the last frame where any loading occurs in the speedrun, which is after the first Darth Vader fight before choosing whether or not to defeat Emperor Palpatine or kill Darth Vader. This is because the speedrun timer ends at the final input in defeating either of these characters.
  • The platforms/hardware shown in this video were chosen based on speedrunning interest. At the time of making this video, no speedruns have ever been submitted to speedrun.com for PSP (Console), Wii (Emu), or Switch (Emu).
  • The load screens included are all between-level loads, all Rogue Shadow loads, and all loads before/after skipping cutscenes.
  • For all platforms except Switch, the "This cutscene has been disabled and will not play while using a custom costume" message which occurs by using a cheat-code skin to play the game is utilized to accurately define where loading begins and ends, as it is my belief that no loading occurs while this message is displayed. This is not done on Switch because this message does not display on Switch, if using a custom costume then the proper cutscene will display regardless but with Starkiller's default outfit.
  • The load-screens considered in this video are the load-screens that occur in the current speedrun route of the game as of 3/25/2024. This means that certain cutscenes are not included in the final totals. This video assumes that you perform Fast Phobos (defeating Darth Phobos quickly enough that her mid-match cutscene does not play), and assumes you perform all currently known skips in TIE Construction Yard and Kashyyyk.
  • Loads that are not included in this video are the mid-level loading screens that you will occasionally notice while an area ahead of you is loading in. If you have reached that area before it has finished loading, your game will freeze and on all versions a white "Loading..." text will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. These loads could not be included as it is my belief that Starkiller must pass a loading trigger that begins these loads at some point in the level, and the only reason the game freezes is if you have reached the area before it has finished. For this reason, without knowing where those loading triggers are and at what point Starkiller crosses the trigger that begins the load, I cannot accurately quantify these loads as an exact figure. That being said, some of these loads are indeed worse or better on different platforms. Their frequency and their length seems to follow the same ratio as the results of this video, with Wii being the slowest and having these load screens frequently and for several seconds each time, PS2 Console being next where they appear somewhat less frequently than Wii, PS2 Emu where they occur quite consistently in a few particular locations and for only a fairly short amount of time, PSP Emu where they may only cost you a handful of seconds at most, and Switch being the fastest almost never having these load screens at all.
  • I would like to thank NoviceSR (Novice9531 on speedrun.com) for providing me with the Switch (Console) gameplay video I used for this comparison.
