Effective immediately, any submissions using the SNES9x emulator will not be verified. The SMB2J mod team has concerns about its integrity due to its ability to overclock and remove lag frames, which may not be easily detectable. Additionally, we request that all BizHawk submissions avoid using the SNES9x core.
However, Mednafen with the BSNES core will be approved for future submissions in its place.
Following Twitch’s announcement regarding the 100-hour storage limit for Highlights, the SMB2J mod team recommends that runners reupload any previously submitted Twitch highlights to a permanent video hosting website (e.g., YouTube) and resubmit any submissions labelled as "at-risk".
We have added Any% D-4 (No S+Q) as a category, to allow runners to speedrun Any% D-4 continuously from 1-1 to D-4.
Enjoy!
Following investigations regarding the integrity of FCEUX submissions, the SMB1/2J moderation team has decided that FCEUX will not be permitted for future submissions, effective September 17th, 2023. Some vulnerabilities in regards to detection methods for cheating were discovered in FCEUX allowing for near undetectable TAS playback. FM2 input files and metadata are stored in plaintext and are easily modified by anyone. Along with this, user SeraphmIII discovered that movie playback can be made nearly undetectable with a single one-byte edit made to the executable file. While possible for any experienced programmer, the ease of this modification is concerning. With this in mind, the SMB1/2J moderation team does not believe that FCEUX is up to the standards of other approved emulators and therefore we will no longer accept submissions performed on it going forward.
Thank you for your understanding.
