I'm planning an R70 run, and it just hit me that all the categories disallows using an autoclicker. Why is this the case? I have a crappy mouse that can't do over five clicks per second, so that is a problem.
Yeah i guess the more time consuming categories could use an autoclicker, gonna change that soon.
Hello,
Realm Grinder disallows over 40 manual clicks a second. I think a click rate at under 20% of that point should be considered a legitimate substitution. While it is indeed an automated tool, the gain from using it is negligible and only adds to the solution for the game.
For instance, you can set a seed in the game, which will persist over Hard Resets and control what FCs you get over your run, but there is no marginal gains from this and doesn't affect the run any more than your personal performance. (The only way to actually reset the seeds is through clearing cookies of the game.) It's also almost forced for runners to start their run with their system clock somewhere before 6 am on a Sunday for getting the trophies "God's Rest", "True Night", and "Sun Blessing" early on, and I don't think the use of that strategy can be argued as being a Tool Assisted run.
Therefore my petition is that an autoclicker at 8 clicks per second should be allowed, to mitigate the hardware problems I have.
Well you do give a good point and i already changed the rules to allow autoclickers on long runs, now lets see what the other mod thinks about this. Also do you think we should allow the full 40 clicks per second or maybe put a limit to it?
I don't care, IMO as long as autoclickers are used to click without using it to automatically move to a spot, it should be considered legitimate since it doesn't mitigate the gameplay. That is of course different from using autoclicker scripts to automatically spam abdications, as a runner who desires to optimize abdicating should solve that themselves.
The only real "unfair advantage" allowing (near) 40 cps autoclickers add to long runs is that speed run trophy can be earned very easily with elves, but on long speedruns that barely changes anything.
Either way, I agree that using an autoclicker to click above a reasonable rate should be considered a tool assisted run, and I'm not to argue against that. It's just jarringly obvious that all categories disallows using a common alternative, while many of the games' features enforces clicking to progress, such as researches. Just as offline time is necessary to progress (researches), and going offline isn't a banned act.
Also, that a TAS isn't an existing category. (I'm not going to use any tools though, so it doesn't matter for my run.)
If we allow any tool, for any reason, it should be considered tool assisted. I can only do an attempt for the longer runs every other day due to a sore clicking arm, but I still think autoclickers are a type of tool, and thusly would be a TAS. I'm all for a TAS catagory, though! It helps give strategy for RTA runs, and shows an optimal play path to try to achieve.
ahhh this is why i am not a good mod, i'm indecisive when it comes to things like this... i guess i stand by kerchow point, its not like an autoclicker is needed to get to R70 normally and if you have a problem with your mouse then i guess you should solve it yourself, like getting a new mouse. Also kerchow can you maybe add that TAS category and change the rules a bit (like phrase them better because i'm not a native english speaker) for all other categories?
Either way, I agree that using an autoclicker to click above a reasonable rate should be considered a tool assisted run, and I'm not to argue against that.
Alright, I'll go ahead and add a TAS section. I used the IOS version to get to R85 myself, and I can't even tap at 8/s on my phone.
Hey, If we allow auto clickers, that would be considered Tool-Assisted. You would need a separate category for that.
