A couple people (myself included) have started running guardian skip, and I'll probably try submitting a run pretty soon. Since it's disallowed in the current "any%" and all the current any% runners go via pebbles, I think it would make sense to rename the current any% category to something like "pebbles%" and create a new any% category where truly anything goes, including guardian skip. Thoughts?
I'm in favor of this as well. The guardian skip run used to be labelled as Any% and it only makes sense to do so. Any% should be for completing the game in the fastest possible time through any in-game means necessary, without any major restrictions—which right now means skipping the guardians.
I know "No Guardian Exploit" is a bit of a mouthful, so yeah. Renaming the category in reference to the fact that you're meant to meet Pebbles/get Communication would make sense.
Between 5p% and GS% for the two sound good to me (GS% meaning Guardian skip%). I feel as though both are subcategories of any% to begin with since one allows a major glitch, if you could call it that, and the other does not.
Also after looking at the guardian skip more the run seems like it wouldn't be a whole lot of fun since it all hinges on one very hard trick at the end in which if you fail the run is over. Hopefully a consistent setup can be found, this is just my input on what I have seen, unsure how far personally I want to go with this game.
deleted my older vod post - got a much better time - finally beat the 1.0 wr. Included if anyone else wants to run this category, this shows off the route pretty well.
I did a pass on the runs awaiting validation. And took the time to shuffle categories around following your feedback. Any% categories have been renamed to Pebble%. New Any%-Survivor category added.
i'm currently just an outside observer (although i'm quite interested in possibly getting into running this) but i think Any% Skipless (what the wr vod is titled) sounds better than Pebbles% for a category name. again, currently got no sway in this community so do with that what you will and don't worry about it too much, but just a thought, especially since Any% Skipless seems to be what it's called off the leaderboards. :)
i love this game, though. beat it casually last night and it was amazing. normally i don't play games in long stretches and i take breaks between sessions, but i racked up 20+ hours in the span of a few days - haven't been that engrossed in a game in years. i'll certainly be taking a look at running this. i watched Avant's Pebbles run just now and it was fantastic. a bunch of stuff i don't understand with some glitches and the movement but it was really cool. :)
if you've got any questions throw 'em my way! most of the discussion happens on the discord in the speedrunning channel, https://discord.gg/rainworld, but im happy to take them wherever.
afaik as the reasoning for pebbles%, I figure it's better because the thing that makes that run distinct from say, pilgrimage% or the new guardian skip any% is that you get to see five pebbles, in a completely different part of the gameworld than the rest of the categories. And it's a really fun route. If anyone found a faster way to get thru any% that didn't use guardian skip, there'd be no category to actually run the 5p path, and I think it's better to affirmatively state goals rather than negatively list restrictions, especially a list you might have to keep adding to if different skips are found, etc etc etc. Plus, the naming convention isn't unheard of in other games, and all the previous any% runs used that path so it's a backwards compatible rename. But it's up for interpretation. Hope you do decide to start running cause i'd love to get some more competition, theres been a resurgence of interest recently.
that's fair, it makes sense to me.
and great, i was wondering if there was a discord for this game, thanks! i'll get in there and nose around a bit, it might be a little while before i start getting into this game but i'll see what's going on at least. thanks. :)
edit: that link redirects to the discord site homepage for me, weird?
edit edit: i found a rainworld server on discord but it isn't speedrun-specific, is that the one you use? i can see it's got a speedrun channel in it
yeah that's probably it, there's not enough runners to have a whole entire server. I changed my name back to avant so I should be easier to find haha
Avant is pretty right here about being more goal-focused. Since meeting either 4+ Echoes or Five Pebbles are the normal prerequisites for completing the game, it makes sense to focus those as the defining factors for their respective categories. "Skipless," on the other hand, isn't nearly as accurate or descriptive for Pebbles% since you're abusing presumed oversights to reach Five Pebbles early.
Hello, I'm an aspiring speedrunner, and I would like to know how I can skip this long dialogue with the Five Pebbles as is done in current speedruns?
- We are having the next wave of allowed mods as well as a few changes to the permitted Remix Settings
- These changes are to allow better QoL on the side of the runner, if they so want it, as well as bringing settings more in line with the settings allowed in the Rain W
