Hello!

This is a game I've been wanting to play for a long time but could not due to language barrier. There has recently been a fan translation into English for this game. If I were to put down a run in this game using that fan translation, would you consider it legal?

I heard about the news. My opinion is it is legal, but I think record as using Emulator. If playing on PSX or PS2, I confirm not Emulator. Based on my knowledge, using translation mod is on PC (if not, please tell me.)

Of course I'm glad to come new speedrunners.

For what it's worth, even if you made it playable on hardware, the english version has at least one more button press than japanese, if not more, so you'd always be at a handicap ;)

That, and in various parts of the run on the english fan-translation, some of the race replay/cutscenes just get stuck on one line of dialogue for a solid minute, whereas they don't when running the Japanese dialogue. One that comes to mind immediately is the Prologue Night race, getting stuck on the "Everyone's words are blending together" line. There are other points in the run where the english text indirectly makes it slower overall, but I can't remember off the top of my head :/

Yeah, there's minor things like that, I haven't fully documented them yet because I haven't gotten my hardware memory card through the game yet. Soon, I hope. I do have a completed emulator run though, so that's a start.
