Why??? (question for the mods)

So I just saw my run got rejected because it didnt start with a restart. But you could clearly see in the run that I started going into the level and the loading screen and the map was there. Why cant we do that as an alternative to restarting?

Why didn't you just restart? It's not much to ask for.

Fair point, but I forgot to do it and it just seems weird that you need to restart.

im on MJ's side here. whats the point of this rule?

United Kingdom

I already argued this point to the mods, when about 15 of my previously legal runs were banned with the introduction of this rule, safe to say it isnt going anywhere, they say "consistency" but i argue it just creates frustration

The problem is that certain levels start with different types of animations, whereas these animations are the same upon a restart. If you don't start with a restart, the mods have to make a judgement call as to where to start the timer as opposed to being given a consistent starting point.

@TheLemonyBard why can't they just do it from when the first input is made, or the music starts or something that can keep it consistent when it starts? That way it actually makes sense to have that timing rule in the ruleset, instead of the added step to restart. (EDIT: I'm not nessesarily against this idea of consistency, it's just surely there is another way of creating this consistency.)

Well then they'll have to go through every single IL in order to retime all the runs and that would be frustrating

MJ is right. certain levels require you to use the restart button but certain levels forbid you to do so? also, unlike every other mario game, you have to end the time AFTER the exit cutscene? NOT WHEN YOU TOUCH THE FLAGPOLE? is it like the level isnt over after the flagpole, is there more level after the flagpole?

"Well then they'll have to go through every single IL in order to retime all the runs and that would be frustrating"

So just time runs using the in-game timer then - it pauses during cutscenes, it's really not that hard.

should have used the in-game timer from the beginning, honestly.

United States

there is no in game timer in the vanilla game

lol true, the timing used for IL's is supposedly an IGT basicaly, not being any load in betwen as it is just a level (except apparently the ending fade-out can have a few frames of inconsistency but yea)

in fact, the IGT internal to the game IS USED alredy for the few levels that have it (wiggler races and K.O. arenas)
