I've been considering running glitchless, and one thing's been bugging me. Why are portal bumps banned in glitchless, when the advantages they give are acknowledged in the in-game gold medal challenges? I can understand why they'd otherwise be considered glitching, but doesn't the in-game acknowledgement change the situation?
I'm not trying to challenge the rules or anything. I have no complaint with not using portal bumps in glitchless. I'm just a little bit confused and figured I'd go ahead and ask. It seems like if portal bumps are banned, peek-a-portal would be banned for similar reasons.
It's an interesting question. The current glitchless rules are weird. For example : Portal through tubes (illegal before the segmented run and now it's legal) Reportal (illegal before but now it's ok) Portal bumps are used to go out of bounds easily, thus it wasn't a game mechanic; because if it was, Valve would have noticed that their textures was leaky (I love Hammer).
I highly doubt Valve expects you to use portal bumping in the challenge levels and all of the gold medals are easily possible without that mechanic so I don't know where you're getting that assumption from.
Starting now and currently being grandfathered, all console runs will be manually retimed with load times removed. This process will be redone by the verification team anyway, so don't worry about doing it yourself when submitting. Massive shoutouts to Tactix1 for doing this basically single handedl
