152 Tokens Speedrun Tutorial

Tutorials for the 152 Tokens category for Pac-Man World 2 with a handcam. Currently being updated. Will update levels when new strats are found. Note: Bosses will NOT be included in this guide.

Avalanche Alley

Forward: This level is really hard to do fast unless you memorize the layout. It only takes like 15 minutes of effort, so I really recommend memorizing it.

First part really requires no memorization, just fully charge your rolls and try to take a straight path down the mountain. (Why did pac climb the mountain in IRR if he's just gonna go back down in the next level?)
You can extend your rev rolls in some areas by sliding onto ice at the end of your roll, as you'll keep the momentum. It can be extended even further by jumping off the ice as it's about to end.
You can rev roll directly into the final pac-dot, don't get scared or you'll probably overcompensate and mess up.

On the hill with a free guy at the edge of it, run to the opposite side of the hill before you start charging your rev roll, or you'll take fall damage when you land.

Rev directly onto the falling platform if you're brave.
Aim between the chest and crate as you're charging the roll so you don't have to curve and hit them when you actually reach that area.

Before the platforms made entirely of ice DO NOT GRAB THE CHECKPOINT AS SAFETY. You will collect it by rev rolling off the crate anyways.

Note: Sometimes the game messes up here and you can't control pac after you butt bounce. For that reason, I wait until I'm entirely over the trampoline before I butt bounce.

Use the blowing guy to boost over the pit.

Next up we have pussy ass bitch skip (usually known as PAB skip.) It's called this because if you don't go for it you're a pussy ass bitch.

How I get this consistent is I always start my first roll from the checkpoint, then go towards the left wall and wait for the ram to pass me before rolling slightly to the center.

Do another roll to get to the area in green. Dont go to the red area or you'll fall off the side.

Now for the actual roll. You need to aim to the right of it, then swing left into it and back right off before you hit the wall. (Best shown by video)

Now the inside area. I'll say it again, to go fast here consistently it MUST BE MEMORIZED.

For the first roll, let go of the analog stick so that when the camera shifts you don't die.

For the first boosted roll I like to aim 45 degrees downwards, then aim pac so that he stays in the center of the stage the whole fly (as the holes are on the side of the path)

The next blowing guy is not worth it, so I just roll past.

The next skip is a lot easier than it looks. Just hold down-left and you should make it every time.

For the next boosted roll, I tend to go in at a more shallow angle, so that when I'm pushed I'm going straight downwards. I try to aim pac so that he stays in the center of the corridor, but its definitely a wonky boost.

For the next boost, make sure you stop early or you'll land on the ice and miss the opportunity to roll into it.

I don't really have much advice for the last boost, I usually hold up and slightly right, but reaction time for what direction to hold really plays into this a lot. You'll get better at it with time.

Take the final chain AND DONT MASH JUMP OR IT SOFTLOCKS THE GAME.

B-Doing Woods

Rev roll and jump up the path to the b-doing, then roll to the blue one (dont do fully charged, or you'll overshoot it)
Bounce on the corner of the b-doing and move straight forward to get to the triangular prism one.
Roll to the blue trampoline and try to land in the green circle so that it's properly tilted.

climb the tree, jump to the box.
Aim southwest and fully charge your roll, then curve very very slightly downwards as you roll.

Here you have two different options, 3-jump (slower/easier) or 2-jump (faster/harder)

The blue path shows 3 jump, jumping to the 3rd b-doing and then butt bouncing directly up to the top of the tree. (Lands on 3rd b-doing twice)
The purple path shows 2 jump, jumping to the 2nd b-doing and then butt bouncing off of the 3rd b-doing without landing on it. (Lands on 3rd b-doing once)
2-jump usually causes you to grab onto the edge of the tree, but if your movement is perfect (and I really mean perfect, this is not easy) you can get up there without grabbing the edge by using a butt-bounce to land on the edge (similar to the end of canyon chaos) This saves 1 second.
Rev-roll along the path, and then jump across to the final blue b-doing. Similar to earlier in the level, land on the back end of the trampoline to tilt it upwards so you can use it as a ramp.

(The video messes up this part sorry) You want to follow the red path in that screenshot, then just roll along to the end of the level.
Note that if you are tagged by a ghost as you are charging a rev-roll your camera will jerk around to face them, usually killing you, so watch out for that.

Bear Basics (any%)

As the levels holding, hold up right up on the analog stick.
Jump to the platform and rev roll to the maze exit.
Climb up to the top, and run a short distance forward. (Red is fine, Green is optimal)

Aim yourself slightly to the right of the leftmost corner of the pit, this allows pacman to dip into the pit and get a faster turn to the right, avoiding the wall.

You need to be further than the red line to do a 3-rev roll bear basics, if you didn't go far enough, just run forward until you're at the line.

The next trick is a jump out of rev-roll, basically just jump at the very end of the roll. Careful though, if you hit jump too early then pacman will stop dead in his tracks. If you're past the green line you can make it to the top of the hill, but if you're past the red line you can go directly into a buttbounce on the button out of your jump up the hill.

A half-charged roll should get you to the edge of the water, make sure you don't go too far.
Fully charged roll to the side of the hill.
Use the hill as a ramp to make it further into the pond.
Half-charged rev roll to the ending. Don't charge it too much or you'll have to wait for pac-mans skidding animation to end before it starts playing the end of level animation.

Blade Mountain

This level is entirely movement based, there are no tricks or anything, so I'm only going to talk about the movement mechanics that make you go fastest.

You move fastest when going straight, and slow down when turning. (At least when you're on the ground.) This means that you should do all of your turning in midair after jumps, and try to line pac up so that you can just go straightforwards to the next part.

In the last area, if you have it memorized you can go for some pretty cool jumps (saves around a second). I'd recommend memorizing it just so you don't make any stupid mistakes and die on one of the easiest levels in the run.

Really there isn't much to talk about, all you can do is practice your movement to get faster.

Blinky (Any%/100%)

(3-1-2 Strategy/2 cycle)

Run towards blinky.
Stand in between the two puddles and wait for him to shoot his tongue. (This is so that the angle of his head will be consistant.)
Run up next to his foot and aim between the first and second toe, then hit him in the head.

Pause to let his invincibility frames run out, hit him 3 times in total.
Land next to his foot and hit him again.
Wait for him to jump then hit him two more times the normal way.

Butane Pain

At the start of the level, hold southeast and jump onto the button, then grab the chrome ball. Rev to the branch (not fully charged), and then stop at the edge of the 2nd branch.

Aim between the two smaller trees and then curve to the left to land on the angled b-doing.
Bounce along the edge of the tree with 8 bonus lives to save time.

Here is a run killer, as usual the more dangerous route is fastest, so its up to you personally on where to land. Consistency I have is as follows
green:100%
yellow:95%
red:55%
I usually go for yellow, because I hate losing runs there.

Butt bounce on the net ramp to get extra speed, then curve left as you roll to end here.

Aim towards the center of the two small trees, and then react to the bounce you get (usually you have to hold up-right)
Bounce across the 3 b-doings, then bounce across the crate and onto the branch.

One the final branch of the first tree, you want to grab onto where there are no fires (green location in image) This is no faster, but it saves health.
Bounce across (making sure not to bounce on the blue button) and then jump up-right towards the rest of the level.
At the next area you can do a tricky rev-roll left if you want (saves 0.5-1.5s depending on if you grab ledge) or just run left. Personal preference.
Then just climb the tree. (watch out for the last saw)

Calculate Level Completion Percentage

Use this guide instead of testing it for yourself, it'll save a lot of time!

Notes:
This calculation works on PC, but I'm not certain if other platforms use the same system.
In this guide, fruits refer to cherries, strawberries, oranges, apples, melons, and galaxians.
For these calculations, assume that 0 ÷ 0 = 1 (this will occur on boss levels and YPM)

N = number of different fruit types present in level
i = fruit number, as assigned per stage
a = number of specific fruit type collected
b = total number of specific fruit type in level
c = number of pac-dots collected
d = total number of pac-dots in level

Example calculation for Pac-Dot Pond:
To be clear, 5/9 cherries, 7/7 strawberries, 5/9 oranges, 2/9 apples, 3/5 melons, 1/1 galaxians, and 83/142 pac-dots were collected.

For those curious, the reason why Yellow Pac-Marine gives 40% completion when nothing is collected, it's because 0 out of 0 pac-dots were collected. Since the programmers equated 0 ÷ 0 to 1 for some reason, just multiply that number by the pac-dot coefficient, 40, and you get 40%.

Canyon Chaos (any%)

Charge a rev roll as the level loads, release it fully charged towards the plant then bounce off the first platform and land on the 2nd.

Here you do a fully charged rev roll to in front of the plant, but your position on the crate dictates which path you need to take.
FOR CENTER OF BOX: Take the red path, bounce straight across to the plant.
FOR ANYWHERE ELSE: Take the green path, you need to bounce along the left side of the last two platforms.

Use the plant to launch yourself to the left side of the pit.
Rev roll from the left side of the pit to the other side. Climb up.
Use the wooden platform in front of you to get a small boost of height. You need to just barely collide with it.

Use the plant to get to the first platform.
Abuse pac-mans butt bouncing hitbox to take a more direct route to the end.
After you've hit the orange button, kickflip so that pacman gets less height.
Tiny rev roll through the pink dot, and as soon as you hit it cancel your rev roll with a jump. This keeps your rev roll momentum for a small amount of time, allowing you to move fast as small pac-man.

Clyde

Phase 1:
At the start of the fight, go the direction indicated and rev to that platform. Clyde always follows the same set path.

Hit him twice. Luckily the hitbox is huge for phase 1.

Phase 2:
Hold up-left and you'll go towards the correct platform. Wait there until clyde circles around fully, then dodge his charge and rev back to the central platform. Turn the camera around.

Wait until clydes mouth is at the same height as pac-man, then jump up and hit him twice.

Try to stay on the side of clyde closer to the platform, or he'll outrun you and you'll die.

Phase 3:
Wait in the center for him to shoot one round of fireballs, then rev roll to the platform with the free guy.

Same double hit as phase 1.

Phase 4:
Head upwards to the platform then rev roll across. Wait for two rounds of fireballs then go back to the center.
Wait for him to land and then butt bounce on him twice. The hitbox is much smaller than previous phases, so aim towards the very center if the dome.

Phase 5:
Head to the upwards platform. Wait for three cycles then head back to the center, and go one platform clockwise from where you were before. (the one with the free guy). The hits have the same setup as phase 1/3 but the hitbox is smaller.

Double Tap Solved

In the game, you have many frames out of a jump to be able to do a Bounce or a Kick.

When you press A to bounce in the air, the game delays the actual slamming down of Pac-Man.
In the time of this delay, you can quickly slide your thumb to the B button to interrupt the Bounce with a Kick. This stores the bounce for the next time you jump, causing the "Double Tap".

You can't activate Bounce storage late into your jump, as you cannot kick flip when you're descending.

Galaxian Routes

Eventually RNG comes into play, but usually you can complete like half the level without having to worry.

Ghost Bayou

Start with a rev roll to the cutscene. (Dont mash start, or you'll pause in the middle)
Roll more, until you get up to the green button.

Rev over the invisible wall and onto the other path. (If you're scared/bad at pmw2 just jump over the wall)

Rev along the paths some more, sometimes they can give you weird bounces, so don't autopilot.

Rest of the level up to the pac-chain is trivial.

Wait skip:
This skips the cutscene where spooky complains about how you killed his tree. 
To skip it, jump very slightly after when the pac dot counter reaches 88, and hold 30 degrees above west on the analog stick, then adjust as the camera swings around (camera is very inconsistent here, but usually i end up rotating the stick clockwise to a northwest position.)

Window for the jump is 8 frames long. (pmw2 is 60fps)

The timing on the jump is hard at first, but not so bad once you get used to it.

Wait skip saves ~4 seconds for reference.

One level to go.

Haunted Boardwalk

Really this level is 100% movement based, and speed will come with time.

The only help i can really give is that if you kickflip right as you leave the ground, pacmans upwards momentum will be cancelled, giving you a shorter jump height/distance, so you'll see me do that a lot in this level so that I can stay on solid ground.

Ice River Run

Rev roll up to the top of the hill. On the final roll I like to ride alone the right wall so I can land directly on the platform.

On the first ice roll you want to be standing on the back end of the platform, or when you try to jump you'll just cancel your roll (this has to do with rev mechanics, which I'll probably make a separate guide on later)

On this roll you want to aim just left of the pond and then quickly curve right.
Climb the mountain. No crazy movement for a bit until this climbing part.

Climb up the first 2 steps normally, shouldn't be any issues. However on the 3rd jump, you'll usually grab the edge. To combat this you can bounce off a more sloped part of the mountain polygon.

Kind of tricky but you just have to get used to it (fyi: this saves 1 second)
Rest of the level is pretty easy. Just be good at rev rolling and follow the path I take in the video.

Inky

Hold up right, and make sure you full charge your rolls. You should nail Inky every time.

The only other thing is when to hit start to cancel the golden strawberry cutscene. Watch the score, and a split second after "5000" is shown, hit start. (To be exact, there should be the same amount of time between 4999 and 5000, and 5000 and hitting start.)

Into The Volcano

Roll through the level until you get to the first group of pac-dots, then stop at the front of it. Then roll off the wall and land on the collapsing platform.

Jump onto the next platform, and then walk onto the wooden moving one (it means you can give the platform a tilt so it can act as a ramp.)

You want to land on the corner to give it maximum tilt, and then launch off the highest corner and bounce off the other platform to land on the wooden platform.
If you're a wimp you can just jump across, but you'll be slow.

Then climb up and rev roll to the checkpoint.
Make your way to the end of the platform or when you rev roll you wont get a good bounce.

Make your way to the ramp. Dont get hit by the ghost while you're charging your rev roll or you'll turn around and face him/die.

Now there's a pretty difficult trick. You want to land exactly on this spot.

Rev roll around the next ramp so you get less height.

Up to the next checkpoint needs no explanation.
Use a buttbounce right before you grab the 2nd falling platforms edge so that you just bounce on top instead of grabbing on.

Simple til the next checkpoint.
Jump to the first platform, then rev to the 2nd and cancel. Easiest if you just copy the video for that part, its pretty straightforward.

Up until the final area its simple. Jump to the falling platform then onto the wooden one.
Do PLP strat to get across the next couple platforms.

Jump a lot.

On the final rev roll, you need to cancel your roll a couple frames before you hit the wall or you'll just bounce off.

Roll to the end.

This level is hard at first but eventually you'll get good at it and never reset here.

Into the Volcano platform skip

Low% Guide

The above playlist shows you how to avoid all the fruit, pac-dots, and points possible in each level required for a Low% run. The videos also show how to avoid all extra lives, checkpoints, power-ups, loss of hp, etc., which is unnecessary for a Low% run to be accepted, but I just threw those extra variables in there just for the hell of it. None of the videos put an emphasis on speed, but instead showcase the easiest way to avoid everything effectively.

Magma Opus

First area is nothing you aren't already used to, just follow the path I take.

Once you get to the rev roll, try to land on the misshapen lighter polygon.

You have to land there so that pacman is on an angle.
Then rev roll to the other side. If you arent far enough down the hill when you're charging your roll, you wont be able to make it over the ledge, so you might have to cancel your roll a few frames before you reach the ledge.

Here you want to roll along the wall so that you can land directly on the 2nd platform. It's a lot easier than it looks.
Use the i-frames from the fire ball so that you can jump through the lava and skip the 3rd platform. Be brave.

Grab the chrome ball and turn around, go down the other path. Follow the route, nothing is that difficult.

At the final section, bounce on the edge of the chute, and then go out perpendicular to the edge (90 degree angle)

Bounce after 2.5s. (this is kind of iffy though, it depends on how much momentum pac-man has.)

Once you land on the 2nd platform, jump so that you land on the stalagmite. You'll land right on the ending trigger.

Night Crawling

Start the level with a rev roll into the box (video doesnt do this cause I'm dumb.)

Follow the video up to the end of the maze (nothing needs to be explained)

Kill the skeleton for his fruit so you can open up the chest. Keep going.

Use the wooden platform as a ramp to get to the sloped trampoline faster.

Keep following the video. This is a very self-explanatory level. Really nothing to explain at all.

Pac-Dot Pond (any%)

Run forward as the level loads.
Stand on the corner of the platform so that it tilts and you can use it as a ramp.
Jump across the platforms to the 2nd moving platform.
Jump (Don't butt bounce) to the corner of the grassy platform.

next, jump up to the corner between the grass and the path, and when pac-mans arms are at their highest, butt bounce again. This should make it possible to do this ledge-grabless.

Aim along the left corner of the path, it gives you more height than the right corner.

Aim and roll so that pacman is facing towards the left corner of the button.

Next is the hardest part. Just make sure that pac-man is completely against the button and that his right fist stays in the light green section of the button and that gives you the optimal angle to roll at. It's tricky to set up on the fly, but you get a feel for it eventually.

Now just climb up, and rev roll across the two pits. If you get hit by the ghost right at the end, that's good, as you'll maintain your rev roll momentum while the hurt animation plays.
Stand on the top of the ramp and rev roll to the end.

Pac-Village (any%)

After hitting new game, mash A to skip the opening cutscene.
Once you see the loading screen, mash start to skip Professor Pacs dialogue.
As the camera rights itself, hold down B to charge a rev roll, and hold up-left on the analog stick to get the correct angle.
Release the fully charged rev roll and go through the fence, then do another short rev roll.

PC version on newer PCs

GETTING STARTED
This crack is for the US version only. The original disc of this game will work fine on an older PC such as Windows XP, but will not work on modern PCs like Windows 7, 8, and 10. StarForce Copy Protection, which is used to check that the disc is presently in the drive before launching, crashes on newer PCs, so you will need a cracked version of PMW2 to circumvent this problem: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B3wqNXFPVw6zWUN6V1ByZTRobXM

Note that you must have the game installed already, as the crack only contains the files necessary to avoid StarForce Copy Protection. Within the "Yes a Crack" folder, move the three items to wherever you installed the game (C:\Program Files\Pac-Man World 2 if default location). Replace the PMW2.exe that came with the game when you installed it with the cracked PMW2.exe file.

RUNNING IN WINDOWED MODE
Since the game was only intended to run fullscreen, you'll need a program called DxWnd for it to run in a window. Since DxWnd version 1 is able to hold a constant framerate better than version 2 (this will be important for minimizing dropped jump inputs, discussed below), I strongly recommend downloading v1.20

* Download DxWnd v1.20 from Resources: https://www.speedrun.com/pmw2/resources
* Open dxwnd.exe and on the toolbar, click Edit > Modify
* Specify the path to the cracked PMW2.exe file (C:\Program Files\Pac-Man World 2\PMW2.exe if you installed to the default location)
* For "DirectX Version to Hook", select "DirectX9"
* Check the boxes "Do Not Notify on Task Change", "DirectInput is Hooked", and "Auto-Correct Mouse Position". Leave all other boxes unchecked; you can play around with "Initial Coordinates and Moveable Range" if desired.
* Hit OK and double-click on the path to execute
* To change the window size, go to your Pac-Man World 2 folder, open pmw2setup.exe, click Graphics settings, and then select a Screen resolution from the drop-down menu

Note: You will experience a lower game brightness and duller colors in windowed mode than in fullscreen mode. The workaround is to amp the contrast by +200% in a video editing program.

MINIMIZING DROPPED INPUTS
A dropped jump input will occur if you try to jump during a spike or dip of at least 3 FPS, and is a HUGE problem when running the game on newer PCs. Noting the following should greatly reduce FPS fluctuations, and result in almost no dropped jumps.
* Open pmw2setup.exe, click Graphics settings and set the Refresh rate to "60 Hz" and Vertical sync to "One"
* Run in windowed mode on DxWnd v1.20 (discussed above)
* Close or stop resource-intensive programs or tasks. Unfortunately, OBS can be a huge culprit for framerate fluctuations, so you may not even be able to stream with it if you want jump inputs to register.
* Amarec desktop capture, however, has worked seamlessly for my local recordings and does not seem to contribute at all to dropped inputs while in recording mode.

Pinky

This boss is nearly identical to Inky.

Phase 1:
Charge the rev roll and hold up-right. You want to launch off the highest part of the ramp, or you might get hit by the bottom of Pinkys machine and die. You don't have to do both hits in a single roll (I usually don't) but its faster by around 1 second.

Phase 2:
Wait until Pinky is directly in front of the ramp, then just hold towards her and you'll hit her twice. Easiest phase IMO, works exactly like Inky.

Phase 3:
Starts the same as phase 1, but you want to loop back around and land on the original platform. Then just copy phase 2 and hit her twice in one roll. If you're having trouble with the first roll, you want to exit the central platform from the highest point (top of ramp) and return on the lowest point (middle between the two ramps.)

Phase 4:
Identical to phase 3.

CS skip:
Same timing as Inky. Watch the score, and a split second after "5000" is shown, hit start. (To be exact, there should be the same amount of time between 4999 and 5000, and 5000 and hitting start.)

Optimal fight is 4 hits/4 hits/2 hits and chase.

Phase one:
Before the cutscene plays, run forward a couple steps, jump forward and kick him. This should cancel the cutscene.
Run forward a step and a half, and jump and hit him again. As you hit him, quickly tap left so that when you run forward, pacman will climb this hill instead of going onto the lower path.

Do the next two hits with the same two timing as the first two hits.

Phase two:
Identical to phase one.

Phase three:
First two hits are the same as the first phase, but after that it becomes near impossible to hit spooky again (only trey and i have done it in around 150 tries)

For the last two hits, just land and chase after him. If you know the old strat for spooky its basically just that.

Hit him twice.

Split when you hit him for the final time.

First part is easy, follow the path.
One of the butt bounces is precise, you want to land on the back end of the tree branch so that you don't nick the saw and lose health, as health is actually important to keep in this level.

More following the path, nothing too crazy. Climb up from the shimmy section as soon as possible, because you move faster walking than you do shimmying.
On the final ledge grab before the top of the tree, mash A and you will climb it faster (This has to do with the distance between where you jump and grab, this doesnt really work elsewhere)

Here you want to rev along the right side of the ramp, so less horizontal velocity is converted into vertical velocity. (This can be used elsewhere, hasn't been fully explored yet)

Bounce across the trees, for most cycles hugging the tree is the safest for preserving health.
For avoiding damage on the long branch with two saws, you can butt bounce along the right side of the platform and you will avoid damage. (This is fairly precise)

Rev roll along the top, but release the analog stick as you let go of the rev roll, or the camera shift will cause you to accidentally roll pac-man off the side.
Follow the path, no strange tricks or movement until after the two circular saw sections.

Here you want to jump from the first b-doing to the second b-doing (This is quite precise) then rev roll to the next platform.
There is like 1/100 chance that the bear spawns on the exact opposite end of the tree so you don't have to kill it, but it's usually best to stay on the safe side and just kill it.
Simple movement until the end of the level. Watch out for the saw at the end if you're low on health.

Whale

Starting info:
Each propeller takes 9 hits to kill, so you should hit each propeller 8 times in preparation.
Whale follows the same set pattern (its around 20 seconds long) but it's RNG at which part of the pattern he'll spawn. Then at worst you could lose like 15 seconds to RNG on this level, but it seems 80-90% of the time he spawns at the optimal time.
I'd recommend memorizing the pattern he follows so you always know when its safe to shoot the propellers.
I personally can't keep track of all of the propellers health in my head, so I count out loud to keep track. (If you're smart enough to do it in your head just do that hey)

Pattern:

When the whale moves from
top right
bottom left
top right
and then slides left, that means its your opportunity to hit 3 propellers off at once.

Final Hit:

Stay in the center of screen and hit the sets of subs, then start spamming shoot when the whale appears, while slowly moving up-right. It isn't too difficult to hit.


This level is hard for beginners, if you can't get it at first stick with it, cause it took me like 7 hours to find and make this setup. Eventually you'll get consistent, just don't give up.

Average time to get 2 cycle for the first time: 2-3 hours. Don't give up.
