Will the switch edition be added as a separate category or not?
It must be a separate category due to the Switch having better performance.
They will add it when someone submits a run on the Switch.

Does the NSO emulator run better tho? I thought it wasn't like the older VC and is more like using an accurate emulator, maybe I'm wrong or maybe no ones done actual tests, but that's the impression I was under.
A run does not need to be submitted for the mods to be able to add the Switch as an available platform for the game. They could literally just do it right now.

I'm assuming that using save states in the middle of the run is not allowed, but would it be okay to make a restore point before the timer starts? just to speed up resets
