The question is in the title. I made some attempts at the any% category using a TG-16 mini (well... technically a CoreGrafx mini, the European version of it) and I was wondering if I could submit runs or if it is not accepted as an emulator (I have no idea how good - or bad - of a job it does emulating).
On a side note, it should be mentioned that, on the mini, during the ending sequence, when the ninja transforms back into a wolf, there is no flashing effect. It seems the ROM has been slightly modified to comply with modern standards when it comes to photosensitive epilepsy (it's possibly the same for the Wii and Wii U versions ?). Would that disqualify this version ?
PS: Thanks for the guide baldnate!
Accepting sounds fine, but not sure if we'd make a new sub-category for the mini or allow it into the current boards.
From what I've seen with the mini, the emulation seems to be pretty good. The turbo fire on the controller works at the same frequencies as original hardware, but it is not lag aware. The result is that if you are on fast turbo fire during lag frames, you may fire faster than you could on original hardware turbo.
I don't know if that difference confers an advantage in Ninja Spirit. There is lag in the game, but managing lag well saves seconds over the course of the run. But maybe faster bomb throws could take out some of the bosses faster in RTA? Hrmmm
I see @LattMackey split out the mini on the board for Psychosis. Maybe he has more info he can share here.
The Psychosis board is specific to the game mechanics. My opinion for Ninja Spirit is that a unified board is fine as I haven't seen proof that the lag awareness offers an unfair advantage to the player. And welcome to Ninja Spirit speedrunning!
Thanks for the quick and informative answers ! I never realized that in actual hardware it's the polling of the controller by the console that acts as a metronome for the auto fire. If you asked me I would have guessed there was some sort of quartz in the controller or something and I would have been wrong. Anyway, I'll try to submit a run I am happy with in the near future !
i got a 9.50 with one death .. i think i can do way better i'll try to record my attemps and submit some
