Yo. My name is IcarusPanda. If you just got into speedrunning this game, you should probs read this.

Mario Super Sluggers is a speedgame that takes a lot of practice, and a lot of luck. To be honest, if good enough you can most likely get around most of this luck, but most of the time you can't. Here's an overview of the three main categories.

Any% - Mostly Optimized Any% is the most unforgiving of the three categories yet it is the one everyone runs. The route if fairly simple, I recently discovered something I believe to be faster but other than that the route is pretty strait forward. If you are to get into this game, I WOULD NOT recommend starting with this category. After two or three runs you'll most likely get bored, and quit. It doesn't allow you to really play and understand most of the mechanics of how the game is played. If you are to run this category, Snipers WR run is great watch that will pretty much go over everything you need to know.

All Captains - fairly optimized All Captains is my favorite category. It is decently long and has a lot of content so that your time save can be in places OTHER than bowser. I would recommend starting with this category as you get to play the game for longer than 20 minutes and see some of the other things in the game other than just strait hitting and throwing. (i.e Buddy Jumps) The route for this is pretty strait forward, watch my run or go to Snipers walk through which is under guides.

All Characters - Not even close to optimized All Characters is a super unoptimized category. The run is super long compared to the two other categories and does require some preparation before doing it. (Unlike the other two) If you are to run this category you can watch my video or RubberDuckyAssassin's. (Who I'm pretty sure has his splits somewhere if you could link it that'd be great) You can also make your own route, since we don't really know what we're doing.

Terms to Know

Bowser mercy - This refers to beating bowser by 10 points, and ending the game early. This saves a ton of time.

RNG - Randomness and dumbness

pause batting? - Don't really have a name for this yet but if you pause right when your about to bat and unpause you can skip the starting animation. This also goes for when you begin pitching. This saves time for some characters for sure but some I'm not sure about. Shoutouts to Poshact for discovering thing.

Puzzle - refers to the puzzle found in peach garden, many new players struggle with this puzzle for whatever reason. Grinding and practice will help you crush this thing.

First cycle - refers to doing the Ferris wheel puzzle in Yoshi fast.

Magnet Puzzle - ...............................................................................................it sucks

Lever - Make sure ur censor bar can detect movement

FAQ

1. I have a good run but I don't have a video what do I do? A. Send splits, video is preferable however. A way to send pictures of your splits explained by Sniper "The easiest way to show pictures on speedrun.com would be to take a screenshot with a program called Gyazo and then link the screenshot when u submit ur run in the comment section"

2. What determined the time deemed as a good run? A. For any% is around what you need for bowser mercy, the other two are still up in the air a bit.

3. nunchuck or wii remote? A. I prefer nunchuck, it lets you move around much more precisely but it doesn't really matter which one you use. Sometimes depending on which on you use it will change the scout mission so look out for that. (Such as the on for yoshi in all captains)

4. Who is a good runner I should watch? (This isn't asked like ever but wutever) Sniper for anything really, RubberDuckyAssassin for all characters, and ig me if you really want. Marioman is a really good new runner.
